Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa, cuja verificação da proposta está fundamentada na técnica de estudo de caso. A originalidade desta tese é a contribuição de uma intervenção prática de um modelo de gestão que contribui para o alinhamento da gestão do conhecimento e a gestão estratégica, visando à conversão do conhecimento tácito em explícito, do conhecimento individual em coletivo e do conhecimento estratégico em operacional. Os princípios da teoria do conhecimento apresentam-se dispostos nos eixos filosóficos da ontologia, da gnosiologia e da epistemologia. O eixo da epistemologia permeia os vieses das dimensões cognitiva e conectiva do conhecimento organizacional. Por meio da pesquisa pura foi possível adaptar os ramos da filosofia ao contexto organizacional, entendendo que o conhecimento nas organizações não pode ser moldado em parâmetros predeterminados, pois o processamento das informações varia de acordo com cada rede de relacionamento entre os diversos stakeholders, e com cada cultura organizacional. A pesquisa aplicada ocorreu em uma empresa do setor agroindustrial de Santa Catarina, onde se pode verificar a aplicabilidade das ferramentas propostas no modelo de alinhamento da gestão do conhecimento ao Balanced Scorecard. Neste contexto, considerou-se a identificação, decomposição, alinhamento, disseminação e avaliação das informações como atividades principais para o desenvolvimento do conhecimento coletivo e explícito, direcionando o conhecimento às conexões da rede de relacionamento estratégico da empresa.

Desta forma, a gestão do conhecimento torna-se fundamental para o alcance das metas estabelecidas no Planejamento Estratégico, mantendo a empresa competitiva em seu mercado. Os resultados alcançados nos diversos indicadores de desempenho do modelo BSC proposto, foram avaliados no final do período de 2003 e comparados com as metas previstas. O estudo dos comparativos conduziu para que pudesse visualizar a necessidade do conhecimento envolvido nos resultados e objetivos das metas traçadas no Planejamento Estratégico de uma organização do setor metalúrgico, da cidade de Corupá/SC.
