Download or read book A Low Temperature, Ultrahigh Vacuum, Microwave-Frequency-Compatible Scanning Tunneling Microscope written by and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To expand the capabilities of the microwave frequency alternating current scanning tunneling microscope to include the ability to study isolated adsorbates and highly reactive surfaces, we have developed a low temperature, ultrahigh vacuum alternating current scanning tunneling microscope. In this alternating current scanning tunneling microscope, we employ the reliable beetle-style sample approach mechanism with a number of other components unique to a low temperature scanning tunneling microscope. These include the sample transfer, delivery, retrieval, storage, sputtering, and heating systems. This alternating current scanning tunneling microscope has been operated at 77K and 4K.

Book excerpt: Scanning Tunneling Microscopy I provides a unique introduction to a novel and fascinating technique that produces beautiful images of nature on an atomic scale. It is the first of three volumes that together offer a comprehensive treatment of scanning tunneling microscopy, its diverse applications, and its theoretical treatment. In this volume the reader will find a detailed description of the technique itself and of its applications to metals, semiconductors, layered materials, adsorbed molecules and superconductors. In addition to the many representative results reviewed, extensive references to original work will help to make accessible the vast body of knowledge already accumulated in this field.

This book was released on 2020-02-15 with total page 575 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Review: Ultrahigh-Vacuum Technology for Electron Microscopes provides information on the fundamentals of ultra-high vacuum systems. It covers the very subtle process that can help increase pressure inside the microscope (or inside any other ultra-high vacuum system) and the different behavior of the molecules contributing to this kind of process. Prof Yoshimura’s book offers detailed information on electron microscope components, as well as UHV technology. This book is an ideal resource for industrial microscopists, engineers and scientists responsible for the design, operation and maintenance of electron microscopes. In addition, engineering students or engineers working with electron microscopes will find it useful. Teaches how to incorporate diffusion pumps for UHV electron microscopy Presents the work of an author who brings a lifetime of experience working on vacuum technology and electron microscopes

Book Synopsis Femtosecond Scanning Tunneling Microscope by :
Download or read book Femtosecond Scanning Tunneling Microscope written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the final report of a three-year, Laboratory Directed Research and Development (LDRD) project at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). By combining scanning tunneling microscopy with ultrafast optical techniques we have developed a novel tool to probe phenomena on atomic time and length scales. We have built and characterized an ultrafast scanning tunneling microscope in terms of temporal resolution, sensitivity and dynamic range. Using a novel photoconductive low-temperature-grown GaAs tip, we have achieved a temporal resolution of 1.5 picoseconds and a spatial resolution of 10 nanometers. This scanning tunneling microscope has both cryogenic and ultra-high vacuum capabilities, enabling the study of a wide range of important scientific problems.

Download or read book Scanning Tunneling Microscopy written by Paul K. Hansma and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A scanning tunneling microscope (STM) can provide atomic-resolution images of samples in ultra-high vacuum, moderate vacuum, gases including air at atmospheric pressure, and liquids including oil, water, liquid nitrogen, and even conductive solutions. This review contains images of single-crystal metals, metal films, both elemental and compound semiconductors, superconductors, layered materials, adsorbed atoms, and even dna. A discussion of results on lithography leads into speculations on a bright future in which STMs may not only observe, but also manipulate surfaces, right down to the atomic level. Reprints.
Book Synopsis In Situ Electron and Tunneling Microscopy of Dynamic Processes: Volume 404 by : Renu Sharma
Download or read book In Situ Electron and Tunneling Microscopy of Dynamic Processes: Volume 404 written by Renu Sharma and published by . This book was released on 1996-08-26 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electron microscopy techniques are among the most powerful methods for characterization of materials, with the ability to reveal both the atomic-scale structure and composition. This information may be used to elucidate macroscopic properties or to optimize materials synthesis and processing. Instrumentation and techniques for dynamic in situ experiments are undergoing rapid development and have recently been applied to a wide range of problems. This book focuses on time-resolved electron microscopy (including diffraction and spectroscopy), as well as novel instrumentation for temperature and pressure control. In addition to discussing the application of electron microscopy techniques to the in situ study of the kinetics, thermodynamics and mechanisms of reaction, the book also explores their utility as efficient methods of optimizing processing conditions. Imaging techniques featured include: scanning tunneling microscopy, high-resolution electron microscopy, dark field transmission and reflection electron microscopy, Lorentz microscopy, electron holography, scanning and low-energy electron microscopy and photoemission electron microscopy
