WHEN a man becomes converted the Salvation Army nurses him carefully until he is strong in the new life; that is to say, experienced officers visit him several times in the day, encourage him in his new purpose, and, above all, deepen in his mind the conviction that someone cares for him. The conversion of the Puncher, which was so important a matter to the corps in that quarter of London, was watched over by the angel-adjutant. She paid visits to him in his home, dropped in to see him at his work, and waylaid him, with affection, on his way home.' He was at work in a carriage-builder's factory, and the proprietor of the establishment was an infidel. But between this man and the adjutant was one point in common, music; both played the concertina and loved it above all the instruments.
