Book Synopsis 'Twas the Night Before Christmas 21st Century Edition by : Bruce Kluger
Download or read book 'Twas the Night Before Christmas 21st Century Edition written by Bruce Kluger and published by Andrews McMeel Publishing. This book was released on 2010-09-14 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Kluger and Slavin's rendition, Christmas is no longer a time of sparkling snow globes and neighborly good will, but rather a celebration of profits, bonuses, and cutthroat competition--complete with disgruntled elves, outsourced Santas, union conflicts, Twittered conspiracies, randy reindeer, media hysteria, factory relocations, toxic merchandise, and a giant leveraged buyout that rocks the world from pole to pole. Packing their verse with hilariously spun rhymes ("The workers grew grim, as they churlishly chored / while Santa grew haplessly, craplessly bored") and even funnier illustrations (picture Santa jumping on Oprah's couch and Mrs. Claus in a racy Maxim cover photo), Kluger and Slavin spike the holiday eggnog with smart and saucy sass--not to mention loads of laughs. 'Twas the Night Before Christmas 21st Century Edition, makes the perfect stocking stuffer or lighthearted gift.

Book Synopsis Death Threats from British Petroleum by : Henry Wells Sullivan
Download or read book Death Threats from British Petroleum written by Henry Wells Sullivan and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2011-06-15 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There cannot be a family in America which has not been touched at some point by a spouses death from the disease of cancer. And the first principle of certainty people learn in dealing with cancer is there is no principle of certainty. The silent killer comes upon us mysteriously and unbidden at any age and oftentimes can never be stopped in its tracks. The poets wife Gillian Richardson died of breast cancer in September of 2009. They had fallen in love at Oxford in 1961, were long separated in mid-life, and finally reunited in 1995 and married in 1999. Feverishly inspired in April of 2010 by the disaster of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill and in the context of his late wifes lifelong crusade to preserve Earths environment from pollution and degradation the poet saw the double tragedy of death in his marriage and the death of human and marine life in the Gulf of Mexico as triggers for a cosmic lamentation which have here become uniquely intertwined in verse. Understandably, therefore although verse no longer survives as a commercial medium in the United States Sullivan views English poetry as a still vital and powerful medium for communicating the anguish and pity of contemporary life on the one hand, and for condemning lawless corporate abuses in twenty-first-century America on the other. The poet aims his satire at the oil industry (Book I), the mining industry (Book II), Wall Street banking (Book III) and at public indifference toward its own predatory exploitation (Book IV). But the poems end in a triumphant mood of eternal love, and an affectionate, sometimes whimsical celebration of his beloved wifes memory, her circle of friends, close family and loved ones (Book V).

Download or read book Author Unknown written by Don Foster and published by Macmillan + ORM. This book was released on 2014-02-04 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the professor who invented literary forensics--and fingered Joe Klein as the author of Primary Colors--comes the inside story of how he solves his most challenging cases Don Foster is the world's first literary detective. Realizing that everyone's use of language is as distinctive as his or her DNA, Foster developed a revolutionary methodology for identifying the writer behind almost any anonymous document. Now, in this enthralling book, he explains his techniques and invites readers to sit by his side as he searches a mysterious text for the clues that whisper the author's name. Foster's unique skills first came to light when a front-page New York Times article announced his discovery that a previously unattributed poem was written by Shakespeare. A few weeks later, Foster solved the mystery that had obsessed America for months when he identified Joe Klein as the author of Primary Colors. Foster also took on a case involving the elusive Thomas Pynchon. And his contributions to the Unabomber and JonBenet Ramsey cases have led the FBI and several police forces to hire him to train their organizations. Introducing a fascinating new field of forensics, Author Unknown will appeal to mystery fans--and to everyone interested in words and the writer's craft.
