They have been blessed with one daughter, a son-in-law, and now are grandparents to a little girl. Charis. For many years, it has been her heart's desire to write a children's book. Book Synopsis A Kosher Christmas by : Joshua Eli Plaut
Download or read book A Kosher Christmas written by Joshua Eli Plaut and published by Rutgers University Press. This book was released on 2012-10-24 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christmas is not everybody’s favorite holiday. Historically, Jews in America, whether participating in or refraining from recognizing Christmas, have devised a multitude of unique strategies to respond to the holiday season. Their response is a mixed one: do we participate, try to ignore the holiday entirely, or create our own traditions and make the season an enjoyable time? This book, the first on the subject of Jews and Christmas in the United States, portrays how Jews are shaping the public and private character of Christmas by transforming December into a joyous holiday season belonging to all Americans. Creative and innovative in approaching the holiday season, these responses range from composing America’s most beloved Christmas songs, transforming Hanukkah into the Jewish Christmas, creating a national Jewish tradition of patronizing Chinese restaurants and comedy shows on Christmas Eve, volunteering at shelters and soup kitchens on Christmas Day, dressing up as Santa Claus to spread good cheer, campaigning to institute Hanukkah postal stamps, and blending holiday traditions into an interfaith hybrid celebration called “Chrismukkah” or creating a secularized holiday such as Festivus. Through these venerated traditions and alternative Christmastime rituals, Jews publicly assert and proudly proclaim their Jewish and American identities to fashion a universally shared message of joy and hope for the holiday season. Book Synopsis Twas the First Night Before Christmas by : Donald Brown
Download or read book Twas the First Night Before Christmas written by Donald Brown and published by . This book was released on 2020-10-23 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The First Night Before Christmas grew out of a desire to tell the Christmas story in an accessible way. Thee hope was to allow families to share and enjoy the real story of Christmas while acknowledging that there was once an historical figure who also served Christ by giving to children selflessly. In our family tradition, we always told our children about Jesus and His birth and earthly ministry. We also explained the history of Santa Claus and included that aspect of the Christmas season as well. That seemed to accomplish the goal of introducing our children to the real meaning of Christmas without the trauma of pretending that the modern idea of Santa is real, only to suddenly be disabused of that fantasy when they hear that he is not. Understanding the Christian roots of the story and incorporating it with our family observances of the holiday made for a well-rounded season of celebration surrounding the birth of our wonderful Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It is my hope that your family enjoys adding this to your tradition as well!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I wrote this as a poem for a poetry book. Before even being published, a pastor friend who read it wanted me to recite it as part of their church Christmas program. In doing so, one of the leaders of that church wanted a copy to read on Christmas Eve to his grandchildren. This year, another church asked if they could build their upcoming Christmas program around this poem. It has been so well received by all who read it, I thought it would be a perfect book for the young and old, and one you may consider reading to your children, or grandchildren each Christmas eve. The Christmas story is also told in one other place in the Bible, and the scripture for that is below. Matthew 1:18-2:12 In reading Chapter two, you will realize that the ‘Three Kings’ came a few years later, and at that time, Mary, Joseph, and Jesus were living in a house.
