Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Earthquakes rip through the world as the Creator approaches, the stars fall, the sun goes dark, and the moon proclaims death. Jesus comes and His powerful presence causes the atmosphere to split and roll away. Revelation 6 shows people wailing for the mountains to bury them: “Fall on us, and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: for the great day of His wrath is come; and who will be able to stand?” And who does stand in that day? No one. Not a single soul. It's the total annihilation of a vile, self-righteous human race. God's followers expected all of this to happen on October 22, 1844. They watched and waited, but Jesus didn't return. This was only a warning preview of His return in the sixth seal. In God's mercy, He commands to delay the cataclysm of judgment day so that He can send to the world the needed preparation for the day of wrath. That needed preparation comes with the seven trumpets of the seventh seal that occur after 1844. The postponed destruction seen in the sixth seal will yet be a future reality. The Seven Trumpets and the Investigative Judgment examines chapters 4–11 in the book of Revelation and studies how recent events since 9/11 have almost completed God's gracious delay. This book presents a new view of Revelation that meets the biblical rules of prophetic interpretation and of the inspired “testimony of Jesus,” which is “the spirit of prophecy” (Rev. 19:10). How have we done in this waiting period? Will we stand when Jesus returns? By God's grace this book will help you prepare for that great day.

Book excerpt: Over a period of forty years, Ben Fisher collected stories illustrating the humor of the Southern Highlander. English, Scotch, Welsh, and Irish immigrants to the Appalachian region of North Carolina brought with them a rugged individualism and a sense of humor and dignity which have been characteristic of the sturdy yeoman farmer. Most mountain preachers and many of the old time mountaineers had a real talent for telling stories. While the "tall tale" is a staple of mountain storytelling, more often the tales relate to something that happened, not something just dreamed up. Mountain humor, like all folk humor, typically arises out of a life situation. Fisher's work, edited by his wife Sally following his passing, relates many of the stories and tales that he had heard over the course of his life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout the longue dureé of Western culture, how have people represented mountains as landscapes of the imagination and as places of real experience? In what ways has human understanding of mountains changed – or stayed the same? Mountain Dialogues from Antiquity to Modernity opens up a new conversation between ancient and modern engagements with mountains. It highlights the ongoing relevance of ancient understandings of mountain environments to the postclassical and present-day world, while also suggesting ways in which modern approaches to landscape can generate new questions about premodern responses. It brings together experts from across many different disciplines and periods, offering case studies on topics ranging from classical Greek drama to Renaissance art, and from early modern natural philosophy to nineteenth-century travel writing. Throughout, essays engage with key themes of temporality, knowledge, identity, and experience in the mountain landscape. As a whole, the volume suggests that modern responses to mountains participate in rhetorical and experiential patterns that stretch right back to the ancient Mediterranean. It also makes the case for collaborative, cross-period research as a route both for understanding human relations with the natural world in the past, and informing them in the present.

Book excerpt: Christians are so much more than religious zealots of words written on the pages of a book! We are in covenant with the Most High God; kingdom kids entitled to a rich and rewarding lifestyle. God's kingdom is at hand, but we need to appropriate it by faith each day. Part and parcel of kingdom living is recognition of our privilege to praise God Jehovah with our prayers, our daily speech patterns and our actions. Romans 10: 9-10 invites us to be transformed by the renewing of our mind. As our mind is renewed so will be our mouth. As our mouths are renewed so will be our relationships! Within the pages of this book we'll learn to replace the trumpets of Old Testament days, announcing the presence of God, the power of God, and God's purposes to a dying world. Once you've read this book and digested the body of evidence herein, you'll begin to see yourself as a trumpeter of God's Word! The atmosphere surrounding your relationships will change radically, as victory becomes your daily portion.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Humanity has blown horns and trumpets of various makes and models, lengths and diameters since prehistoric times. In Horns and Trumpets of the World, the eminent scholar Jeremy Montagu surveys the vast range in time and type of this instrument that has accompanied everything in human history from the war cry to the formal symphony, from the hunting call to the modern jazz performance. No work on this topic offers as much detail or so many illustrations—over 150, in fact—of this remarkable instrument. Montagu’s examination starts with horns constructed from such unusual materials as seaweed, cane, and bamboo, and continues the journey of exploration through those of shell, wood, ivory, and metal. The chronological scope of Horns and Trumpets of the World is equally vast: it looks at instruments of the Bible and from the Bronze and Iron Ages respectively before diving headlong into those from the Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, and Classical periods, and, following the Industrial Revolution, those that have appeared in the modern era. Drawing on the many instruments from the author’s own extensive collection, Montagu offers details, including measurements, at levels rarely seen in other surveys of this world of instrumentation. Horns and Trumpet of the World should appeal to not only scholars and collectors, but professional brass players and manufacturers, as well as museums and institutions with a vested interest in our musical heritage.

Book excerpt: Trumpets were extremely important in the lives of the people of ancient Israel. Through the use of trumpets God spoke to them, guided them, warned them, and directed them. It was the duty of the priests to sound the trumpets at the appropriate times. But sometimes God Himself spoke to them directly, such as at Mt. Sinai, when in awful and terrifying grandeur the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder as the mighty God of heaven descended in fire, and the mountain trembled violently. This spectacular demonstration was to prepare the hearts of the people to receive with reverence and awe the pronouncement of His holy ten commandment law (Ex. 19:16 – 20:21). In fact, trumpets were often connected with the law and the ark of the covenant, which contained it. Priests blowing trumpets were to precede and accompany the ark whenever it was transported. An example of this is found in Joshua 6:1-20, where 7 priests blowing 7 trumpets marched before the ark around the city of Jericho for 7 days, and on the seventh day they blew the trumpets 7 times, and as the people shouted, the walls of the city collapsed. Is the God of heaven any less zealous for His sacred law today than He was in ancient times? Could it be that even now in our day He is allowing trumpets to blow to warn of the impending collapse of the cities of the nations, which are so filled with crime and corruption? Will He not rise from His throne and oversee the final dispensation of justice upon a world, which is careening toward self-destruction? Read the pages of this book and discover the meaning of the extraordinary events that have been happening since the turn of the century, and find the way into the safety of God’s pavilion.
