Book excerpt: “Sets a standard for political storytelling with impeccable research and lively writing.” —Kirkus Reviews (starred review) “Page-turning…riveting…colorful and detailed…a barometer of the health of our democracy.” —Barbara McQuade, The Washington Post Two investigations. Two impeachments. Two acquittals. One president. The full story. Unprecedented. Unimaginable. Until Donald Trump’s presidency. A year apart, two ferocious political dramas challenged American democracy. As Pulitzer Prize–winning Washington Post reporters Kevin Sullivan and Mary Jordan show in this gripping account, the two Trump impeachments and acquittals shared common threads: An American president, relentless in his drive to win re-election, willing to disregard the laws that limit his powers, no matter the cost. A divided Congress, split along party lines, unable to agree on whether Trump’s actions met the Constitutional standard for removal from office. The Constitution itself, tested in ways that its framers had not anticipated. Trump’s Trials is an expanded version of Trump on Trial, Sullivan and Jordan’s compelling and masterful 2020 account of the first impeachment. That narrative, a crisp page-turner with exquisite detail and vivid scenes, deftly conveyed the calculations of the central figures, in particular Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Republican Senate leader Mitch McConnell. The authors have added three new chapters, and revised others, to carry the narrative through the 2020 presidential election of Joe Biden; Trump’s feverish attempts to overturn Biden’s victory; his supporters’ deadly attack on the Capitol as Congress was certifying the electoral votes; Trump’s second impeachment and acquittal—but this time, with seven Republican senators voting against him. Sullivan and Jordan, aided by editor Steve Luxenberg, have written a fast-paced, authoritative account of the historic events that rocked America—an invaluable examination of what happened and why.

Is he the right person to Keep America Great? This book answers some critical questions on the eve of the 2020 election. First, before moving further, you need to know why Americans chose Trump to run the country. The reason Trump got elected is that he gave people a vision. He gave the people of America hope. And his optimistic view and hope of making AMERICA GREAT AGAIN put him into the oval office. Donald J. Trump, like or hate him, is the President of the United States. There is no other political figure in recent memory that has been so polarizing. Despite this, he has accomplished so much in so short a time for America. Trump is already a consequential President in American history. He is the first US President to meet with a North Korean dictator. He is the first President to attend the March for Life. Under his administration, we have experienced the lowest Black and Latino unemployment. Women have experienced the lowest unemployment rate in 50 years during his first term in office. In this well-researched book, Josh takes you on a journey and shows you why Donald Trump became President of the United States in 2016, and why he is likely to be re-elected in 2020. WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT DONALD J. TRUMP Hillary Clinton's chances reached 91 percent last night -- their highest point yet in this election cycle. The latest rise comes from gains in Arizona and Georgia, as well as hints of further weakness in typically safe red states like Alaska and Utah. From the beginning, Donald J. Trump faced a challenging electoral map, and his campaign has not improved his chances. At this point, even a large polling miss would not be enough for Mr. Trump to win -- it will take a sudden and striking change in the fundamentals of the presidential race. As a rule of thumb, we should expect Election Day polling averages to miss by as much as 3 to 4 points: Mrs. Clinton's current lead in the national popular vote is around 6 to 7 points and growing.--New York Times 2016 Presidential Forecast, Tuesday, October 18, 2016 (nytimes.com)It really does now look like President Donald J. Trump, and markets are plunging. When might we expect them to recover? A first-pass answer is never... So we are very probably looking at a global recession, with no end in sight. --Paul Krugman of the New York Times the day after the election (investors.com) Trump's 'Haters' Are the Ones Breaking America--Kimberley Strassel (cited by The Daily Signal)I'm Concerned If We Don't Impeach This President, He Will Get Re-Elected--Rep. Al Green (Real Clear Politics)I like almost everything about him. He's, I would say, a very refreshing figure in American politics. And of course, that's what makes him a disruptor.I guess his ability to see things slightly differently is what's most refreshing, his ability to look at an issue and say, "Why don't we do this?" And everybody says, "Well, you can't do that." And he says, "Well, why not?" He has that side to him, and I think it served him very well in a number of ways.I think that's part of the reason a lot of Christians turned to Trump, because they saw that somehow he gets this. This is not somebody we might have picked first and there still may be many issues that we would quibble with, but honestly, getting that is so big.--Eric Metaxas (Interview on The Daily Signal)For God's Sake Trump's Tweet is Not Witness Intimidation--Gregg Jarrett (thegreggjarrett.com) Reminder that the Clinton campaign and DNC secretly hired a group to put together a dossier with demonstrably false dirt on Donald Trump and its author claimed it was sourced to people linked to the Russian government.--Mollie Hemingway (Twitter: @MZHemingway)Dems 'chasing rainbows' with impeachment, Trump headed for 'landslide' win--Governor Mike Huckabee (FoxNews.com)

Book excerpt: From a Democratic congressman and member of the House intelligence committee, an insider’s account of the impeachments of former president Donald Trump. How do you stop a rogue president? How do you protect a country from a man who lies, who obstructs justice, and who seeks to cheat with foreign powers to get reelected? Our constitution offers one remedy: impeachment. On December 18, 2019, President Donald J. Trump became just the third president in US history to be impeached by the House of Representatives. And then, on January 13, 2021, he became the first president to be impeached twice. In Endgame, Congressman Eric Swalwell offers his personal account of his path to office all the way to House impeachment manager, and how he and his colleagues resisted, investigated, and impeached a corrupt president. Swalwell takes readers inside Congress and through the impeachment process, from Trump’s disgraceful phone call with the Ukrainian president to depositions in the SCIF, and from caucus meetings and conversations with the Speaker to the bombshell public hearings and the historic vote, and then what followed—the 2020 election, the insurrection on January 6, 2021, the second impeachment and second trial. Endgame is fascinating, a gripping read by a unique witness to extraordinary events.

Book excerpt: Four experts on the American presidency examine the three times impeachment has been invoked—against Andrew Johnson, Richard Nixon, and Bill Clinton—and explain what it means today. Impeachment is a double-edged sword. Though it was designed to check tyrants, Thomas Jefferson also called impeachment “the most formidable weapon for the purpose of a dominant faction that was ever contrived.” On the one hand, it nullifies the will of voters, the basic foundation of all representative democracies. On the other, its absence from the Constitution would leave the country vulnerable to despotic leadership. It is rarely used, and with good reason. Only three times has a president’s conduct led to such political disarray as to warrant his potential removal from office, transforming a political crisis into a constitutional one. None has yet succeeded. Andrew Johnson was impeached in 1868 for failing to kowtow to congressional leaders—and, in a large sense, for failing to be Abraham Lincoln—yet survived his Senate trial. Richard Nixon resigned in August 1974 after the House Judiciary Committee approved three articles of impeachment against him for lying, obstructing justice, and employing his executive power for personal and political gain. Bill Clinton had an affair with a White House intern, but in 1999 he faced trial in the Senate less for that prurient act than for lying under oath about it. In the first book to consider these three presidents alone—and the one thing they have in common—Jeffrey A. Engel, Jon Meacham, Timothy Naftali, and Peter Baker explain that the basis and process of impeachment is more political than legal. The Constitution states that the president “shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors,” leaving room for historical precedent and the temperament of the time to weigh heavily on each case. This book reveals the complicated motives behind each impeachment—never entirely limited to the question of a president’s guilt—and the risks to all sides. Each case depended on factors beyond the president’s behavior: his relationship with Congress, the polarization of the moment, and the power and resilience of the office itself. This is a realist view of impeachment that looks to history for clues about its potential use in the future.

The more the media drags Trump down, the larger in life he gets. You know, the underdog thing. For instance: Hillary Clinton was asked "Did you wipe your server clean?" Her response was, "What, with a cloth?" Nothin' Happened. Hillary Clinton smashed subpoenaed cellphones with a Hammer? Nothin' Happened. Obama said, "You can keep your doctors?" Didn't Happen. Bill Clinton was impeached? Nothin' Happened. Jeffrey Epstein was found dead in his cell? Nothin' Happened ... and many more. This "deplorable" came up with 37 reasons why Trump will win (again). Because elephants never forget ...! ~*~ Written a bit tongue-in-cheek by Sara Branmore

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NATIONAL BESTSELLER “Lichtman has written what may be the most important book of the year.” —The Hill What are the ranges and limitations of presidential authority? What are the standards of truthfulness that a president must uphold? What will it take to impeach Donald J. Trump? Professor Allan J. Lichtman, who has correctly forecasted thirty years of presidential outcomes, answers these questions, and more, in TheCase for Impeachment—a deeply convincing argument for impeaching the 45th president of the United States. In the fall of 2016, Allan J. Lichtman made headlines when he predicted that Donald J. Trump would defeat the heavily favored Democrat, Hillary Clinton, to win the presidential election. Now, in clear, nonpartisan terms, Lichtman lays out the reasons Congress could remove Trump from the Oval Office: his ties to Russia before and after the election, the complicated financial conflicts of interest at home and abroad, and his abuse of executive authority. The Case for Impeachment also offers a fascinating look at presidential impeachments throughout American history, including the often-overlooked story of Andrew Johnson’s impeachment, details about Richard Nixon’s resignation, and Bill Clinton’s hearings. Lichtman shows how Trump exhibits many of the flaws (and more) that have doomed past presidents. As the Nixon Administration dismissed the reporting of Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein as “character assassination” and “a vicious abuse of the journalistic process,” Trump has attacked the “dishonest media,” claiming, “the press should be ashamed of themselves.” Historians, legal scholars, and politicians alike agree: we are in politically uncharted waters—the durability of our institutions is being undermined and the public’s confidence in them is eroding, threatening American democracy itself. Most citizens—politics aside—want to know where the country is headed. Lichtman argues, with clarity and power, that for Donald Trump’s presidency, smoke has become fire.

How does it work? And why is it so urgent and necessary to impeach Donald Trump? In this book, celebrated Supreme Court lawyer and former Acting Solicitor General Neal Katyal explains the principles of impeachment, and why the current holder of the presidency has left the US people with no choice but to remove him from office. No one is above the law. This belief is fundamental to how the American system of government is meant to function - as fundamental as life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness - held sacred by Democrats and Republicans alike. But as Katyal argues in Impeach, if President Trump is not held accountable for repeatedly asking foreign powers to interfere in the 2020 presidential election, this could very well mark the end of US democracy. Impeachment should always be a last resort, explains Katyal, but the founders, core principles and the Constitution leave no choice but to impeach President Trump - before it's too late.
