Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Raising children is the most important responsibility we have. Are you doing all you can to be the best parent possible? Dr. Garrett Soldano has spent his entire adult life applying the Universal Laws to athletics and entrepreneurship. He now applies these same laws to successful parenting. Turning his efforts to creating a simple yet easy to understand guide for parents, he has outlined a clear path for setting a solid foundation of values for children. How many times do we see children follow their parents down the same road toward self-destruction falling prey to behaviors like alcoholism, drug abuse, eating disorders, self-esteem issues, relationship social difficulties or financial problems? Our children are a product of their environment. Therefore, as parents we must be a positive influence--not only in how we react to situations and events but also by monitoring ourselves constantly in everything that we do and don't do. With the wealth of knowledge available today there is no excuse to sit back and not take action against the debacle we are witnessing with our youth. In God's True Law, Dr. Garrett Soldano describes the definite science to being a successful parent. It is built upon a foundation of his life experiences growing up in poverty. The story begins with his two very young parents, completely raw in their skills, living in a trailer park and struggling to make ends meet, who still succeeded in pulling themselves up while providing their sons with all the prerequisites to move forward in life. Based on his experiences and observations, Dr. Soldano began to study, formalize, and apply the lessons of Universal Laws to parenting. The teachings in this revolutionary book, if applied correctly, will make sure parents' aspirations take root, legacies grow and family trees flourish for generations to come.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Just how tough are the country's most prestigious law schools? Most alumni would answer with stories of humiliating "Socratic dialogue failures" in the classroom and all-night, caffeine-fueled cram sessions. Until now, the traditional concept of the law-school experience was the one presented in Scott Turow's One-L, published in 1977, a dark description of his first year at Harvard Law School. Twenty-four years later things have definitely changed. Turow's book became the accepted primer--and warning--for aspiring law students, giving them a glimpse of what awaited: grueling nonstop study, brutally competitive classes, endless research, and unfathomable terminology. It described a draconian prison and endless work in the company of equally obsessive, desperate fellow students. Yet, sidestepping terror and intimidation, law students (and new authors) Robert Byrnes and Jaime Marquart entered highly prestigious law schools, did things their own way, earned law degrees, and were hired by a Los Angeles law firm, turning Turow's vision upside down. In their parallel narratives--two twisted, hilarious, blighted, and glorious coming-of-age stories--Byrnes and Marquart explain how they managed to graduate while spending most of their time in the pursuit of pleasure. Byrnes went to Stanford to reinvent himself--after a false start in politics he wanted to explore the life of the mind. It took him virtually no time to discover that the law was neither particularly intriguing nor particularly challenging. He could play around the clock. When Byrnes wasn't biking he was getting drunk and smoking crack. Finding himself when he discovered the right woman, Byrnes finally moved to Los Angeles during his third year and flew upstate only to take final exams. Born and raised in a small town in Texas, Marquart had never lived outside the state before arriving at Harvard. Amazed at his own good luck, he approached school with all due diligence. Disenchantment followed shortly thereafter, and Marquart learned he needn't be intimidated by his classmates and teachers. With a mysterious and bizarre companion--another student called the Kankoos--Jaime took up traveling but devoted most of his energy (and considerable money) to gambling, counting cards in casinos around the country. Irreverent, funny, and downright shocking, Brush with the Law will inspire undergraduates to bone up for the entrance exam, while outraging lawyers and the admissions officers of their beloved alma maters. Upon realizing how easy it was to get good grades, Jaime relates: "I approached my second year with [one] goal . . . take classes that required the least amount of work and the least amount of attendance . . . To accomplish my . . . goal, I devised The System, a short instruction manual on the principles behind selecting and ditching law school classes. The System's goal was to screw off as much as possible, with few if any consequences." --from Brush with the Law

Book excerpt: A rollicking collection of barely believable stories from five centuries of legal history – you’ll be gripped by these tales of murder, intrigue, crime, punishment and the pursuit of justice. Meet the only dead parrot ever to give evidence in a court of law, the doctor with the worst bedside manner of all time, the murderess who collected money from her mummified victim for 21 years, and explore one of the most indigestible dilemmas – if you’d been shipwrecked 2,000 miles from home, would you have eaten Parker the cabin boy? The tales within these pages are bizarre, fascinating, hilarious and, most importantly, true. Revised, redesigned and updated for a new generation of legal eagles, this book is the perfect gift for lawyers, armchair detectives and true crime afficionados everywhere.

Book excerpt: One L, Scott Turow's journal of his first year at law school and a best-seller when it was first published in 1977, has gone on to become a virtual bible for prospective law students. Not only does it introduce with remarkable clarity the ideas and issues that are the stuff of legal education; it brings alive the anxiety and competiveness--with others and, even more, with oneself--that set the tone in this crucible of character building. Each September, a new crop of students enter Harvard Law School to begin an intense, often grueling, sometimes harrowing year of introduction to the law. Turow's group of One Ls are fresh, bright, ambitious, and more than a little daunting. Even more impressive are the faculty. Will the One Ls survive? Will they excel? Will they make the Law Review, the outward and visible sign of success in this ultra-conservative microcosm? With remarkable insight into both his fellows and himself, Turow leads us through the ups and downs, the small triumphs and tragedies of the year, in an absorbing and thought-provoking narrative that teaches the reader not only about law school and the law but about the human beings who make them what they are. In the new afterword for this edition of One L, the author looks back on law school from the perspective of ten years' work as a lawyer and offers some suggestions for reforming legal education.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE A true story of death, grief and the law from the 2019 winner of the Australia Council Award for Lifetime Achievement in Literature. In October 1997 a clever young law student at ANU made a bizarre plan to murder her devoted boyfriend after a dinner party at their house. Some of the dinner guests-most of them university students-had heard rumours of the plan. Nobody warned Joe Cinque. He died one Sunday, in his own bed, of a massive dose of rohypnol and heroin. His girlfriend and her best friend were charged with murder. Helen Garner followed the trials in the ACT Supreme Court. Compassionate but unflinching, this is a book about how and why Joe Cinque died. It probes the gap between ethics and the law; examines the helplessness of the courts in the face of what we think of as 'evil'; and explores conscience, culpability, and the battered ideal of duty of care. It is a masterwork from one of Australia's greatest writers. Winner of the Ned Kelly Award for Best True Crime 2005 Winner of the ABIA Book of the Year 2004 PRAISE FOR JOE CINQUE'S CONSOLATION "Garner's book is a writer's profound response to a tragedy and to questions about human responsibility over time as well as at precise moments" The Age "This is a work of great passion and of countervailing humanity - a book of witness..." Book excerpt: No matter who you are or what you believe, you have the power to manifest what you want in life—a dream job, wealth, love, and health. In this concise and fascinating book, Tony Burroughs shows readers how to work with the Law of Agreement to change old beliefs about money, relationships, and health issues that are holding them back. He shares stories from his years of working with people from all over the world who are practicing living intentionally bringing into their lives that which serves the higher good and discarding the rest. The Law of Agreement says that as we lend our agreement to any belief, we reinforce it and make it stronger. Alternatively, as we refrain from lending our agreement to an idea that isn’t likely to give us the results we’re looking for, we dilute it and weaken its power over us and over everyone else simultaneously. Burroughs offers examples and stories that show how the Law of Agreement and its partner, the Law of Adversity, work simultaneously. What happens when we don’t get what we want? What is the opportunity in adversity? The Law of Agreement shows how adversity can lift us up and out of our routines and help us to reach deep inside ourselves for answers to life’s hardest questions. Full of real-life stories, examples, and solutions, The Law of Agreement is a practical and world changing book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Does the Law exist? and if so, what is it? Can we know it? This book tries to answer these questions by approaching as a whole the problem of Law, its justification and demonstration. Because when facing multiple legal theories, many of which are contradictory, we have to ask ourselves what the true Law is, if it exists indeed, its origin, meaning and perspective. We are in pursuit of something more: the Law and its truth. This fundamental question must be scientifically solved, and in such an in-depth approach that only philosophy, traditionally understood as "knowledge by its first and principle causes, obtained under the natural light of reason," can give us the answer. the current thesis takes up the problem of knowledge and its theories of being and truth, to later contrast them with various juridical currents. Two different paths, processes and objects to reach the same conclusion. the result wasn't easy, but we believe we contributed with a juridical theory with seven rules of truthfulness, that from our humble point of view, solves the conflict over Law, its essence and properties. What is Right? What is Law? Does a juridical science exist? Does a true theory of Law exist or does each one of us have their own truth? These were the central questions we tried to answer in the current thesis; to demonstrate through reason the considerations raised here and to somehow contribute in a positive way to the growing relativism of this subject.
