Book excerpt: More from Vicky Bliss - the new heroine from the creator of the bestselling Amelia Peabody series A picture is worth a thousand words - but the photograph art historian Vicky Bliss has just received gives rise to a thousand questions instead. A quick glance at the blood-stained envelope is all the proof she needs that something is horribly wrong. The photo itself is familiar: a woman adorned in the gold of Troy. Yet this isn't the famous photograph of Frau Schliemann - this photo is contemporary. And the gold, as Vicky and her fellow academics know - disappeared at the end of World War II. And now this circle of experts is gathered for a festive Bavarian Christmas - including a very determined killer.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Planet of Gold is a fascinating and meticulously researched account of the first stirrings of the Earth, when alien gods mastered our universe. Paris' hypothesis of these gods sending tons of gold from our planet may challenge your beliefs, but with great skill, he weaves a believable and astounding conclusion of why religions developed and how these beliefs have become permanently intertwined in our history. The gold of Earth, transformed into a "monatomic super conducting gold powder", could bring health and longevity. Additionally, it was a powerful and clean energy source. The knowledge about gold powder was the explicit privilege of the gods. For us, it has been classified as 'forbidden knowledge.' The gold, and the gold powder, was the reason behind such events as the creation of man, the confusion of the tongues, the destruction of cities, and the introduction of religions, like Christianity and Islam. Their action, to violently deprive us from using gold powder, is visible in our current state of being: a world dominated by diseases, mental enslavement by religious dogmas, and pollution leading to a climate crisis. Paris' book is a stunningly revealing look at ancient kings, prophets and agents, secret societies, the Holy Inquisition, the Bible, and other religious teachings. Planet of Gold will open your eyes to an entirely different way of observing your faith and your world. ABOUT THE AUTHOR-Andreas Paris lives with his wife and two children in Stockholm, Sweden. He is a retired IT Specialist and is currently working on a second volume about the Planet of Gold.

Book excerpt: The candid, never-before-heard history of the past 40 years of USC Trojans Football—whose storied alumni include O.J.Simpson, Reggie Bush, Keyshawn Johnson, and more—as told by the players and coaches who survived it “The untold story behind USC’s success on the field and the scandal off it, from those who lived it day after day.”—Armen Keteyian, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Tiger Woods and correspondent for 60 Minutes Sports Over the years, USC has produced an almost unrivaled level of success: 11 national titles, 38 conference championships, 7 Heisman Trophy winners and 80 All-Americans, while also grooming countless NFL stars. From Todd Marinovich and Keyshawn Johnson to Reggie Bush and Matt Leinart, some of the greatest and most memorable college football players of all time have suited up for the Trojans. And under the leadership of legendary coaches like John Robinson and Pete Carroll, they’ve played in some of college football’s most celebrated big games. At the same time, few big-time football programs are as tumultuous as USC. From battles with the NCAA to bitter internal conflicts between coaches, players, and administration and all-out brawls with hated rivals like Notre Dame, the Trojans’ dominance has often gone hand in hand with controversy. In Cardinal and Gold, respected journalist Steve Delsohn tells the full and unvarnished story of the USC program at its best and worst. From the dynastic “Tailback U” years of the 1970s, to the dominance of the Carroll years, right through the upheaval of the modern era, Cardinal and Gold is a must-read for any fan of USC or major college football.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whether antiquities should be returned to the countries where they were found is one of the most urgent and controversial issues in the art world today, and it has pitted museums, private collectors, and dealers against source countries, archaeologists, and academics. Maintaining that the acquisition of undocumented antiquities by museums encourages the looting of archaeological sites, countries such as Italy, Greece, Egypt, Turkey, and China have claimed ancient artifacts as state property, called for their return from museums around the world, and passed laws against their future export. But in Who Owns Antiquity?, one of the world's leading museum directors vigorously challenges this nationalistic position, arguing that it is damaging and often disingenuous. "Antiquities," James Cuno argues, "are the cultural property of all humankind," "evidence of the world's ancient past and not that of a particular modern nation. They comprise antiquity, and antiquity knows no borders." Cuno argues that nationalistic retention and reclamation policies impede common access to this common heritage and encourage a dubious and dangerous politicization of antiquities--and of culture itself. Antiquities need to be protected from looting but also from nationalistic identity politics. To do this, Cuno calls for measures to broaden rather than restrict international access to antiquities. He advocates restoration of the system under which source countries would share newly discovered artifacts in exchange for archaeological help, and he argues that museums should again be allowed reasonable ways to acquire undocumented antiquities. Cuno explains how partage broadened access to our ancient heritage and helped create national museums in Cairo, Baghdad, and Kabul. The first extended defense of the side of museums in the struggle over antiquities, Who Owns Antiquity? is sure to be as important as it is controversial.
