Book excerpt: After two years, feuding triplets, Ondrea, Adison, and Yvette, reunited to mourn the loss of their wealthy grandfather, game manufacturer, Justin Wheeler. His Last Will and Testament stipulated that in order to inherit his company, they had to agree to elect one of them the company president. What were quarreling sisters supposed to do – play a game? Indeed, a game sounded like a good idea, and soon it became an elaborate game involving five single and very handsome lawyers, a reporter, and an uninvited player with murder on his mind. Their game was about to become even more complicated when two of the three sisters fell in love with the same man. The triplets kept the real reason for their game a secret, claiming the winner would win the much loved Grandfather clock. In truth, the stakes were much higher. Yet, in only three days, what they hoped would be a fun adventure got complicated and even dangerous. One of the triplets was convinced she was the first to lose, but could the sisters talk her out of it? Once more the Wheeler triplets had to put their game on hold. It now involved three beautiful young women, five single men, a flight crew, the press, and people around the country who figured out how to play the game with them. Yet, two of the sisters faced seemingly impossible problems, and just when they thought things couldn’t get any worse – they did.

Book excerpt: Life on a cattle station in Australia’s unforgiving Northern Territory is rough. The extreme heat, humidity, insects, dust, isolation, and predators forge impenetrable bonds among those who can survive here. The people are just as hardened—and just as unforgiving—as the wild lands they fight to tame. In 1987, Clare Daine, a schoolteacher from Melbourne, takes up the job of governess to identical triplets at the Opium Creek station. She’s shocked to discover that the “homestead” is little more than an old tin shed with limited electricity. Her employer, Jack Marlow, a narcissistic alcoholic, is extremely demanding, and the other men of the station are as raw around the edges as the station itself. Three years before Clare’s arrival, the triplets’ mother, Lily, disappeared during a brutal wet-season storm. Now, doubt has left the close-knit community nervous, suspicious, and aggrieved. When Wanatjiti, Lily’s renegade stallion, returns, old wounds are opened, and unanswered questions rise again. Ngunintja, the triplets’ grandmother, has her own theories about what really happened during that fateful storm. And now nightmares tear Clare’s sleep apart. Her dedication to the children is the only thing that keeps her from fleeing the horrors of this life. Slowly, she comes to understand the love-hate relationship they all share with each other and with the land itself. Clare’s single-minded determination to discover the truth behind Lily’s disappearance puts her own safety at risk. How far will she go to solve the mystery?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A USA Today bestselling series! The complete boxed set of those crazy, loveable & infuriating Barker triplets! Includes Offside, Collide, Conceal and A Barker Family Christmas! Offside: When hockey phenom Billie-Jo Barker returns home and decides to play in the local Friday night hockey league, all hell breaks loose. Not because Billie's talent is in question, but because Billie is a woman. And though these are modern times, some of the local guys still have a problem letting a girl into their "men's club." Soon, Billie is at the center of a small town battle of the sexes, with everyone choosing sides. Her sisters. The townsfolk. Her friends. And yet, the only person whose opinion she cares about doesn't seem to care much at all. Logan Forest, the man who broke her heart when she was eighteen and the man she now shares the bench with every Friday night. She's got a lot to prove and though Billie Jo Barker scores on the ice, will this girl ever score with the man of her dreams? Collide: A second chance never looked so good... Bobbi-Jo Barker has been in love with the wrong man for years. A man who doesn't fit into the perfect, controlled life she's created. A man who not only broke her heart but nearly destroyed her. So the fact that he's back in town shouldn't matter because he's all wrong for her, or so she thinks... Shane Gallagher, prodigal son, ex-con, and all around hellion, has returned to the small town of New Waterford to mend fences and get his life back. What he doesn't count on are the feelings he still has for the one woman who can break him--the one woman who is totally wrong for him. And yet, as Bobbi and Shane are thrown together and begin to navigate a life with each other in it, neither can deny the attraction they feel, or the emotions that come with it--the good and the bad. And so the question becomes... can these two damaged souls survive a second chance at love? Conceal: No one said going home would be easy... Black sheep and all around trouble maker, Betty Jo Barker is back home and hoping for a do-over. Things are finally looking up until Beau Simon comes to town. The man pushes every button she owns and manages to awaken long dead emotions she'd rather leave buried. Beneath the surface she knows she's a wreck--her scars run deep--and she can't help but wonder, is Beau Simon the one who can fix her? Beau Simon, the brightest star in Hollywood has come to New Waterford for one reason only. He's determined to have Betty Jo Barker star in his next film. He knows she's perfect for the part, but a past encounter might prove more than a little difficult to overcome. As Beau turns on the charm, hoping to win over this complicated woman, he realizes it won't be easy. Only time will tell if what lies beneath can ever be overcome. Or if love can heal all... A Barker Family Christmas: Spending Christmas with the Barker triplets just might be the craziest idea ever… Christmas in New Waterford might never be the same again. With Shane and Bobbi on the outs, Logan and Billie adjusting to sleepless nights and a baby who’s now mobile, things are bad enough. But with newly minted Hollywood superstar, Betty, planning a wedding in town, the potential for disaster is high. Their gramps has been sidelined by a fall and their father is ailing, so can these triplets get it together—and more importantly—get along? Or will they kill each other before the turkey is served? It just might take a miracle for them to survive the holidays without any injuries. With Matt Hawkins and a Simon or two along for the ride, this Christmas will be full of tears, laughs, reflection—and if Betty has her way—a wedding. Long Road Home Bobbi and Shane's story continues 10 years later. Because what happens after happily ever after?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume hopes to act as a new marker in the areas of Irish Studies and Migration/Diaspora Studies. It is also, in part, an attempt to give a voice to communities who have frequently found themselves on the margins of the so-called “mainstream” community - the hidden Irish, the hidden European, the migrant, the nomad that reflects the changing face of the “new” and “immigrant” Europe. The scholars and activists writing here have engaged with the questions of ethnicity, identity, racism, cultural expression and the new historiography that characterises those newer disciplines often referred to now as Traveller Studies and Romani Studies. Of particular concern to this book’s contributors has been the necessity to address these broader issues within the context of the ever-changing dynamics of representation, modernisation, globalisation and the construction of the modern nation-state that has been the “litmus test” for many Western and Eastern European countries including Britain and more-recently Ireland. It is to be hoped that this collection of essays will function as a catalyst for some new and exciting areas of enquiry in the more “liminal” interstices of Irish Studies, Traveller Studies, Romani Studies and Diaspora and Migration Studies, the latter, a discipline which modern Irish society is only now beginning to interrogate on a more serious and scholarly level.

Do inflectional stems differ phonetically from monomorphemic words? Can these differences be perceived? This volume aims to answer these questions in a replication project by investigating data from two corpora and a production experiment, as well as by extending this research with two perception experiments. It investigates what happens phonetically in the stems of words that end in homophonous suffixes, and whether listeners can perceive these subtle phonetic differences. Two potential effects were termed; categorical paradigm uniformity, in which stems of words ending in [s, z] are expected to have longer durations if these words are morphologically complex (e.g. days is longer than daze), as well as gradient paradigm uniformity, in which the frequency of related words is expected to have an influence on paradigm members (e.g. day influences days). Findings from these studies contribute to a growing body of research in the field of morphophonetics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Researchers in areas such as artificial intelligence, formal and computational linguistics, biomedical informatics, conceptual modeling, knowledge engineering and information retrieval have come to realize that a solid foundation for their research calls for serious work in ontology, understood as a general theory of the types of entities and relations that make up their respective domains of inquiry. In all these areas, attention is now being focused on the content of information rather than on just the formats and languages used to represent information. The clearest example of this development is provided by the many initiatives growing up around the project of the Semantic Web. And, as the need for integrating research in these different fields arises, so does the realization that strong principles for building well-founded ontologies might provide significant advantages over ad hoc, case-based solutions. The tools of formal ontology address precisely these needs, but a real effort is required in order to apply such philosophical tools to the domain of information systems. ontological questions which call for further philosophical investigations. The purpose of FOIS is to provide a forum for genuine interdisciplinary exchange in the spirit of a unified effort towards solving the problems of ontology, with an eye to both theoretical issues and concrete applications. This book contains a wide range of areas, all of which are important to the development of formal ontologies.
