Book Synopsis Mittag-Leffler Functions, Related Topics and Applications by : Rudolf Gorenflo
Download or read book Mittag-Leffler Functions, Related Topics and Applications written by Rudolf Gorenflo and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-10-16 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a result of researchers’ and scientists’ increasing interest in pure as well as applied mathematics in non-conventional models, particularly those using fractional calculus, Mittag-Leffler functions have recently caught the interest of the scientific community. Focusing on the theory of the Mittag-Leffler functions, the present volume offers a self-contained, comprehensive treatment, ranging from rather elementary matters to the latest research results. In addition to the theory the authors devote some sections of the work to the applications, treating various situations and processes in viscoelasticity, physics, hydrodynamics, diffusion and wave phenomena, as well as stochastics. In particular the Mittag-Leffler functions allow us to describe phenomena in processes that progress or decay too slowly to be represented by classical functions like the exponential function and its successors. The book is intended for a broad audience, comprising graduate students, university instructors and scientists in the field of pure and applied mathematics, as well as researchers in applied sciences like mathematical physics, theoretical chemistry, bio-mathematics, theory of control and several other related areas.

Book Synopsis Fractional Calculus And Waves In Linear Viscoelasticity: An Introduction To Mathematical Models (Second Edition) by : Francesco Mainardi
Download or read book Fractional Calculus And Waves In Linear Viscoelasticity: An Introduction To Mathematical Models (Second Edition) written by Francesco Mainardi and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2022-08-16 with total page 626 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fractional Calculus and Waves in Linear Viscoelasticity (Second Edition) is a self-contained treatment of the mathematical theory of linear (uni-axial) viscoelasticity (constitutive equation and waves) with particular regard to models based on fractional calculus. It serves as a general introduction to the above-mentioned areas of mathematical modeling. The explanations in the book are detailed enough to capture the interest of the curious reader, and complete enough to provide the necessary background material needed to delve further into the subject and explore the research literature. In particular the relevant role played by some special functions is pointed out along with their visualization through plots. Graphics are extensively used in the book and a large general bibliography is included at the end. This new edition keeps the structure of the first edition but each chapter has been revised and expanded, and new additions include a novel appendix on complete monotonic and Bernstein functions that are known to play a fundamental role in linear viscoelasticity. This book is suitable for engineers, graduate students and researchers interested in fractional calculus and continuum mechanics.

Book excerpt: During the last two decades the boundary element method has experienced a remarkable evolution. Contemporary concepts and techniques leading to the advancements of capabilities and understanding of the mathematical and computational aspects of the method in mechanics are presented. The special emphasis on theoretical and numerical issues, as well as new formulations and approaches for special and important fields of solid and fluid mechanics are considered. Several important and new mathematical aspects are presented: singularity and hypersingular formulations, regularity, errors and error estimators, adaptive methods, Galerkin formulations, coupling of BEM-FEM and non-deterministic (stochastic and fuzzy) BEM formulations. Novel developments and applications of the boundary element method in various fields of mechanics of solids and fluids are considered: heat conduction, diffusion and radiation, non-linear problems, dynamics and time-depending problems, fracture mechanics, thermoelasticity and poroelasticity, aerodynamics and acoustics, contact problems, biomechanics, optimization and sensitivity analysis problems, ill posed and inverse problems, and identification problems.

Book Synopsis Handbook of Differential Equations: Ordinary Differential Equations by : A. Canada
Download or read book Handbook of Differential Equations: Ordinary Differential Equations written by A. Canada and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2004-09-09 with total page 709 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book contains seven survey papers about ordinary differential equations. The common feature of all papers consists in the fact that nonlinear equations are focused on. This reflects the situation in modern mathematical modelling - nonlinear mathematical models are more realistic and describe the real world problems more accurately. The implications are that new methods and approaches have to be looked for, developed and adopted in order to understand and solve nonlinear ordinary differential equations. The purpose of this volume is to inform the mathematical community and also other scientists interested in and using the mathematical apparatus of ordinary differential equations, about some of these methods and possible applications.

Book Synopsis Asymptotic Modelling of Fluid Flow Phenomena by : Radyadour Kh. Zeytounian

This book was released on 2006-04-10 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: for the fluctuations around the means but rather fluctuations, and appearing in the following incompressible system of equations: on any wall; at initial time, and are assumed known. This contribution arose from discussion with J. P. Guiraud on attempts to push forward our last co-signed paper (1986) and the main idea is to put a stochastic structure on fluctuations and to identify the large eddies with a part of the probability space. The Reynolds stresses are derived from a kind of Monte-Carlo process on equations for fluctuations. Those are themselves modelled against a technique, using the Guiraud and Zeytounian (1986). The scheme consists in a set of like equations, considered as random, because they mimic the large eddy fluctuations. The Reynolds stresses are got from stochastic averaging over a family of their solutions. Asymptotics underlies the scheme, but in a rather loose hidden way. We explain this in relation with homogenizati- localization processes (described within the §3. 4 ofChapter 3). Ofcourse the mathematical well posedness of the scheme is not known and the numerics would be formidable! Whether this attempt will inspire researchers in the field of highly complex turbulent flows is not foreseeable and we have hope that the idea will prove useful.
