Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Award-winning nature writer Jack Turner directs his attention to one of America's greatest natural treasures: the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Comprised of two national parks, three national wildlife refuges, parts of six national forests, and eleven wilderness areas, Greater Yellowstone is a vast array of differing environments and geographies. In a series of essays, Turner explores this wonderland, venturing on twelve separate trips in all seasons using various modes of travel: hiking, climbing, skiing, canoeing lakes, floating rivers, and driving his way across the landscape. He treks down the Teton Range, picks up the Oregon Trail in the Red Desert, and floats the South Fork of the Snake River. Along the way he encounters a variety of wildlife: moose, elk, trout, and wolves. From the treacherous mountains in the dead of winter, to lush river valleys in the height of fishing season, his words and steps trace one of the most American of experiences---exploring the West. Turner, who has lived in Grand Teton for three decades, designates Greater Yellowstone as ground zero for the country's conflict between preservation and development. At a time when the battle to preserve a wild and natural environment is relentless, his accounts of the areas conflicts with alien species, logging, real estate, oil, and gas development are alarming. A mixture of adventure, nostalgia, and Americana, Turner's rare experiences and evocative writing transform the sights and sounds of Greater Yellowstone into an intimate narrative of travel through America's most beloved lands. Praise for Teewinot: "Bursting with a sense of place...a rewarding reading experience replete with ravishing observations of nature." - Publishers Weekly "...a measured luxuriance in the landscape, a love song to the natural history of a place...Turner's writing is muscular, never swaggering, and almost lyrical, summoning a Teton Range in its rightful, sublime austerity." - Kirkus Reviews "Teewinot is a rare book. The wonderful accounts of mountaineering serve as armature not only for Turner's meditative reverence for the Grand Tetons and his often evocative prose but also for an uncommon density of knowledge of place..." - Peter Matthiessen, author of Tigers in the Snow "This is, simply stated, a wonderful and utterly engaging book." - Jim Harrison, author of Dalva and The Road Home "Each place must find its muse. The Tetons have found theirs and his name is Jack Turner." - Terry Tempest Williams, author of Coyote's Canyon

Book excerpt: The classic road trip now available in paperback once more following rave reviews, in which lawyer, Nigel Winter followed in the tyre tracks of the creator of the legendary Triumph Bonneville; Edward Turner. The book juxtaposes the two journeys in two completely different eras: the fifties and today. The book is part road trip, part social history, part satire. All in all, better than Zen & The Art Of Motorcycle Maintenance."Educating, humbling, heroic and uplifting" The Daily Telegraph "...Winter has a most erudite style that is both witty, satirical, sometimes self deprecating and always thought provoking..." The Classic MotorCycle magazine."An absolutely lovely book - beautifully written, whimsical and with just the right touch of nostalgia" 100% Biker.

Book excerpt: Mary Roberts Rinehart's 'MARY ROBERTS RINEHART Ultimate Collection' is a comprehensive compilation of her diverse literary works, showcasing her talent for writing gripping murder mysteries, thrilling novels, insightful travel books, thought-provoking essays, and personal reflections in her autobiography. Rinehart's writing style is characterized by its intricate plots, well-developed characters, and suspenseful storytelling which have made her a prominent figure in the mystery genre, often compared to Agatha Christie. This collection provides readers with a deep dive into Rinehart's versatile writing abilities and offers a glimpse into the social and cultural contexts of the time in which she wrote. Through her works, Rinehart delves into the complexities of human nature, moral dilemmas, and the darker aspects of society, keeping readers engaged from start to finish. Mary Roberts Rinehart, a trailblazing female author of the early 20th century, drew inspiration for her stories from her own experiences as a nurse and war correspondent during World War I. Her keen observations of human behavior and her ability to craft compelling narratives have solidified her reputation as a master of the mystery genre. Rinehart's unique perspective and storytelling prowess continue to captivate audiences worldwide, making her a timeless literary figure. I recommend 'MARY ROBERTS RINEHART Ultimate Collection' to readers who appreciate classic mystery novels, engaging thrillers, and thought-provoking essays. This comprehensive anthology not only showcases Rinehart's impressive body of work but also offers a glimpse into the mind of a pioneering female author whose influence on the mystery genre is undeniable.

Book excerpt: Here are eleven stories about the variety of people one might encounter during travel. The author confesses that he has met many of these characters during his own travels. The situations in the stories are sometimes similar to what actually occurred, but mostly they are invented combinations, or merely total inventions. A Danish woman travels across the whole Aegean Sea to search for her lover on an island in the Cyclades. A photographer of flowers finds a unique inn. The beach at the inn is so beautiful and so isolated that the name of the country must be kept secret. The photographer is fascinated by the other five guests at the inn who are all half his age, but mostly by the young and beautiful manager. Two brothers driving across the remote, central part of Iceland meet a travel writer, an adventurer, and hear him tell of one of his most fearful adventures. A young couple vacationing in Egypt hit on a way of translating the hieroglyphs on a wall that no one has ever managed to do before. An elderly man living in Irkutsk, Russia, stops two tourists from the U.S. and asks them to send him a special gift as a favor. He, in turn, will send the woman two rings made of a special stone. A young American soldier from Vermont, on a train in France, traveling home after World War I, meets a young woman on her way home from Rhodesia, about to be married in England. A man is on a fantastic journey but where he was, and what he really did see is a mystery for the reader to solve. A middle aged man and his much younger bride, who loves to tell stories that she probably creates on the spot, are visiting the island of Samos. He is having a hard time keeping up with her vigorous pace, but the reward of his efforts will be more stories for his wife to tell. A journalist wants to interview a wealthy and very generous contessa. His search for her takes him to several unusual places. I, the author, do not know if the journalist will ever write an article about her. A young American woman, a secretary, temporarily gives up her job in order to assay a life as a chef on a small yacht in the Caribbean. An anxious Hungarian couple is on the way home from their first vacation outside of Hungary. The travel restrictions for Hungarians are just beginning to change. Before each story is a one-page vignette telling of the authors experiences at various border crossings. They start with: Some borders are easy to cross, like the time we drove right through one without even noticing until we were some miles past. and end with How should one be greeted on first entering Greece? By bolts of lightning thrown by Zeus himself.
