Book excerpt: This report documents and presents the products of a study to develop an energy analysis applications manual. The manual is intended for agency analysts to use in applying the energy analysis theories and procedures to environmental benefit/cost analyses of transportation actions. The relevant theoretical underpinnings of energy analysis were researched and described in the report. A step-by-step analysis procedure was developed and presented, describing energy analysis calculations and their application in transportation environmental benefit/cost analyses. The procedure's limitations and applications are discussed. Five case studies were developed and documented, providing detailed illustrations of the application of the procedure to various real transportation problems. The findings of the study indicate that the energy analysis procedure may supplement traditional methods of environmental impact assessment by providing- (i) comprehensive quantifications of individual kinds of impacts and of the total environmental impact of a transportation action; (ii) quantitative comparisons of the significance of different kinds of environmental impacts, even enabling-comparison of government-regulated impacts with non-regulated ones and of any one category of impact with the aggregate environmental impact; and (iii) a basis for determining dollar values of environmental impacts.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a practical guide to finding and delivering energy savings opportunities in transport operations for professional energy managers and energy auditors. Globally, transport is one of the fastest growing energy consumers and emitters of greenhouse gases, predominantly CO2. The transport sector is also changing quickly ("more change in the last 5 years than in the last 50" – Mary Barra, CEO General Motors). After distance, unladen vehicle weight is the biggest driver of energy consumption in transport, hence this book is called the ‘light’ guide – tongue in cheek. Be warned transport is a huge and complex topic. This practical guide from the convener of EN16247-4:2014, the first European energy audit standard for transport, takes a pragmatic approach to delivering measurable energy and emissions reductions in transport operations. Lessons learnt from the author’s 17 years of experience in persuading operators to deliver measured energy savings in transport are interwoven with tools, tips and shortcuts. These will help energy managers and auditors deliver effective transport energy audits that identify opportunities, prompting action, measured savings and, most importantly, being invited back!

Download or read book Transport and Energy Research written by Junyi Zhang and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2019-09-17 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transport and Energy Research: A Behavioral Perspective deals with the transport issues associated with energy from a behavioral perspective in an interdisciplinary and systematic way. Existing transport and energy research has focused on technologies and energy efficiency; however, more efficient technologies do not necessarily lead to energy reduction. Unfortunately, very limited behavioral research can be found in the literature. This book covers major transport modes in major countries. It emphasizes the importance of researching the behaviors of not only transport and energy service users, but also transport and energy service providers, policy makers, organizations, company managers, and other stakeholders who are involved in and/or affected by transport and energy policies. It not only overviews the history of relevant research and presents new developments but also extensively discusses the future research issues. Various findings are summarized for reducing energy consumption from a behavioral perspective. This book provides readers with behavioral insights into more effective policymaking. Behavioral interventions are recommended as a key policy instrument for reducing energy consumption in a sustainable way. It provides policy makers with comprehensive insights into making more effective policies over the whole process of policymaking. The book can serve as a handbook for researchers and a textbook for graduate students in the fields of transport, energy, environment, planning, public policy, behavioral studies, and so on. Examines transport and domestics issues associated with energy from a behavioral perspective in both an interdisciplinary and comprehensive way Offers an overview of current relevant research and the most recent developments Provides rich information about future research trends and innovative insights into effective policymaking
