Book Synopsis Macmillan Directory of UK Business Information Sources by : James Tudor
Download or read book Macmillan Directory of UK Business Information Sources written by James Tudor and published by Springer. This book was released on 1992-09-15 with total page 443 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this publication is to provide a 'one stop' guide to business information, insofar as that is possible within the confines of a useable book. It aims to give guidance on both the published and organisational sources relevant to the needs of the non-professional business researcher and provides a listing of 'worthwhile' references and contacts. As previously, the Directory is organised so that both published sources and information centres are grouped together under their applicable Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) number and heading. This new edition also incorporates NACE classification and correlation tables. The second category again includes those UK and pan-national organisations which focus on specific, discrete industry sectors, which limits the number of organisational sources in the directory to those that are 'most worthwhile'.

Book Synopsis The Rise and Rise of Road Transport, 1700-1990 by : Theodore Cardwell Barker
Download or read book The Rise and Rise of Road Transport, 1700-1990 written by Theodore Cardwell Barker and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1995-09-28 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most books about Britain's transport history have concentrated upon canals and railways. It is now clear that a great deal of traffic went by road even before turnpikes, and that goods as well as passenger services were much more highly developed than used to be supposed. This book is an important survey of road transport over the past three centuries. The authors summarise the new evidence and arguments and explain why we need to take a longer view of the subject. They shed new light on the importance of horse-drawn freight in the eighteenth century before the introduction of turnpikes, offset the undue attention paid to the railways in the nineteenth century, and stress that motor transport's present great importance only dates from the 1950s. A full bibliography is provided for more extended study.

Book Synopsis Lees' Loss Prevention in the Process Industries by : Frank Lees
Download or read book Lees' Loss Prevention in the Process Industries written by Frank Lees and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2005-01-25 with total page 3708 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last three decades the process industries have grown very rapidly, with corresponding increases in the quantities of hazardous materials in process, storage or transport. Plants have become larger and are often situated in or close to densely populated areas. Increased hazard of loss of life or property is continually highlighted with incidents such as Flixborough, Bhopal, Chernobyl, Three Mile Island, the Phillips 66 incident, and Piper Alpha to name but a few. The field of Loss Prevention is, and continues to, be of supreme importance to countless companies, municipalities and governments around the world, because of the trend for processing plants to become larger and often be situated in or close to densely populated areas, thus increasing the hazard of loss of life or property. This book is a detailed guidebook to defending against these, and many other, hazards. It could without exaggeration be referred to as the "bible" for the process industries. This is THE standard reference work for chemical and process engineering safety professionals. For years, it has been the most complete collection of information on the theory, practice, design elements, equipment, regulations and laws covering the field of process safety. An entire library of alternative books (and cross-referencing systems) would be needed to replace or improve upon it, but everything of importance to safety professionals, engineers and managers can be found in this all-encompassing reference instead. Frank Lees' world renowned work has been fully revised and expanded by a team of leading chemical and process engineers working under the guidance of one of the world’s chief experts in this field. Sam Mannan is professor of chemical engineering at Texas A&M University, and heads the Mary Kay O’Connor Process Safety Center at Texas A&M. He received his MS and Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of Oklahoma, and joined the chemical engineering department at Texas A&M University as a professor in 1997. He has over 20 years of experience as an engineer, working both in industry and academia. New detail is added to chapters on fire safety, engineering, explosion hazards, analysis and suppression, and new appendices feature more recent disasters. The many thousands of references have been updated along with standards and codes of practice issued by authorities in the US, UK/Europe and internationally. In addition to all this, more regulatory relevance and case studies have been included in this edition. Written in a clear and concise style, Loss Prevention in the Process Industries covers traditional areas of personal safety as well as the more technological aspects and thus provides balanced and in-depth coverage of the whole field of safety and loss prevention. * A must-have standard reference for chemical and process engineering safety professionals * The most complete collection of information on the theory, practice, design elements, equipment and laws that pertain to process safety * Only single work to provide everything; principles, practice, codes, standards, data and references needed by those practicing in the field

Book Synopsis Integrated Futures and Transport Choices by : Julian Hine
Download or read book Integrated Futures and Transport Choices written by Julian Hine and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title was first published in 2003. The UK transport White Paper "A New Deal for Transport" and new Transport Acts for England, Wales and Scotland have indicated and defined the future direction and policy agenda of national governments. The need for integrated transport raises key policy issues, among which are: the importance of sustainability; and the integration of transport policy with other areas of public policy, such as social exclusion and health. The idea of this direction in policy has implications for the changing nature of work, traveller information, interchange and public transport, freight distribution and the use of new technology. This volume also examines key areas of policy and regulation, which are developing as a result of the White Paper and the new Transport Acts. The volume brings together leading UK academics in the field of transport studies to discuss and reflect on these issues, and the state of transport policy in the UK within this new and developing policy framework.
