Book excerpt: ISBN : 978-967-2454-09-0 Author : Mohd Azli Salim Laminated rubber-metal bearing from natural rubber also been well-known as a vibration isolator to block vibration energy. However, most of existing works on the bearing especially the mathematical models consider only the performance of the bearing due to the static force. Development of mathematical model for dynamic force and also its response is still lacking. Additionally, application of the existing rubber bearings only focuses on motion in the horizontal direction (sliding motion) intended to counter the energy coming from the earthquake. In this book, it is of interest to develop new techniques to perform the performance of the bearing subjected to axial excitation, and also to explore the potential of the vibration isolator for other applications, where dynamic loading can come from axial direction, such as cars passing by on the bridge or highway, or ground-borne vibration from railway lines. At the end, the model can be used for many applications which are mechanical, civil, building and many more.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The simulation of complex, integrated engineering systems is a core tool in industry which has been greatly enhanced by the MATLAB® and Simulink® software programs. The second edition of Dynamic Systems: Modeling, Simulation, and Control teaches engineering students how to leverage powerful simulation environments to analyze complex systems. Designed for introductory courses in dynamic systems and control, this textbook emphasizes practical applications through numerous case studies—derived from top-level engineering from the AMSE Journal of Dynamic Systems. Comprehensive yet concise chapters introduce fundamental concepts while demonstrating physical engineering applications. Aligning with current industry practice, the text covers essential topics such as analysis, design, and control of physical engineering systems, often composed of interacting mechanical, electrical, and fluid subsystem components. Major topics include mathematical modeling, system-response analysis, and feedback control systems. A wide variety of end-of-chapter problems—including conceptual problems, MATLAB® problems, and Engineering Application problems—help students understand and perform numerical simulations for integrated systems.

Book excerpt: "Blood transfusion is a life-saving intervention that has an essential role in patient management within health care systems. All Member States of the World Health Organization (WHO) endorsed World Health Assembly resolutions WHA28.72 (1) in 1975 and WHA58.13 (2) in 2005. These commit them to the provision of adequate supplies of safe blood and blood products that are accessible to all patients who require transfusion either to save their lives or promote their continuing or improving health." --Preface.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern railways are no longer the sole forte of civil and mechanical engineering. They now involve a broad range of multidisciplinary engineering domains from advanced computing, digital telecommunications, and networking to big data analytics and even artificial intelligence. Among the emerging technologies and innovations in railways, hyperloop transportation systems employing magnetic propulsion, hydrogen-powered trains, and autonomous intelligent systems in the control and command subsystems of railways have significant potential to improve the performance of railways in terms of speed, service availability, comfort, sustainability, and potentially safety. These innovations will also help mitigate carbon emissions. This volume presents the latest research on railway engineering and transportation and discusses the practices and processes involved in shaping modern railways.

Book excerpt: Veterinary Clinical Pathology: A Case-Based Approach presents 200 cases with questions for those interested in improving their skills in veterinary clinical pathology. It emphasises an understanding of basic pathophysiologic mechanisms of disease, differential diagnoses and recognition of patterns associated with various diseases or conditions. Topics discussed include haematology, clinical chemistry, endocrinology, acid-base and blood gas analysis, haemostasis, urinalysis, biological variation and quality control. Species covered include the cat, dog and horse, with additional material on ruminants. Cases vary in difficulty, allowing beginners to improve their clinicopathologic skills while more complicated cases, or cases treating unfamiliar topics, are included for experienced readers. This book is a helpful revision aid for those in training as well as for those in practice who are pursuing continuing education. It is also a valuable resource for veterinary nurses and technicians.
