This book was released on 2018-07-24 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Certain conjectures on the physics of instabilities in high-speed flows are discussed and the state of knowledge of hypersonic transition summarized. The case is made for an unpressured systematic research program in this area consisting of controlled microscopic experiments, theory, and numerical simulations. Morkovin, Mark V. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper surveys the available material and summarizes what is known to date about boundary-layer transition at supersonic speeds. Variables studied include Mach number, Reynolds number, pressure gradients, heat transfer, surface roughness, and angle of attack. The discussion is limited to bodies of revolution because similar reliable data for wings is lacking.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These three volumes entitled Advances in Hypersonics contain the Proceedings of the Second and Third Joint US/Europe Short Course in Hypersonics which took place in Colorado Springs and Aachen. The Second Course was organized at the US Air Force Academy, USA in January 1989 and the Third Course at Aachen, Germany in October 1990. The main idea of these Courses was to present to chemists, com puter scientists, engineers, experimentalists, mathematicians, and physicists state of the art lectures in scientific and technical dis ciplines including mathematical modeling, computational methods, and experimental measurements necessary to define the aerothermo dynamic environments for space vehicles such as the US Orbiter or the European Hermes flying at hypersonic speeds. The subjects can be grouped into the following areas: Phys ical environments, configuration requirements, propulsion systems (including airbreathing systems), experimental methods for external and internal flow, theoretical and numerical methods. Since hyper sonic flight requires highly integrated systems, the Short Courses not only aimed to give in-depth analysis of hypersonic research and technology but also tried to broaden the view of attendees to give them the ability to understand the complex problem of hypersonic flight. Most of the participants in the Short Courses prepared a docu ment based on their presentation for reproduction in the three vol umes. Some authors spent considerable time and energy going well beyond their oral presentation to provide a quality assessment of the state of the art in their area of expertise as of 1989 and 1991.
Book Synopsis Boundary-layer Transition Study of Several Pointed Bodies of Revolution at Supersonic Speeds by : William A. Cassels
Download or read book Boundary-layer Transition Study of Several Pointed Bodies of Revolution at Supersonic Speeds written by William A. Cassels and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Boundary-layer transition by the sublimation and impact-pressure techniques and force tests have been performed on three Haack-Adams bodies of revolution of fineness ratios 7, 10, and 13 at zero angle of attack for free-stream Mach numbers of 2.00, 2.75, and 4.63 and a range of Reynolds numbers based on model length of 6 to 15 X 10(to the 6 power) with and without a roughness strip. The grit method of inducing turbulence was found to provide for a nearly complete turbulent flow over the models at the lower Mach numbers and higher Reynolds numbers considered in this study while the amount of trip drag was less than 8 percent of the model drag with transition fixed. A method of interpreting sublimation data was discussed and used and the results compared well with the impact-pressure results.
