Ces défis la prédisposent à des difficultés de transition et d’acquisition de rôle se répercutant sur sa santé psychologique et sur la sécurité et la qualité des soins prodigués. Cette étude qualitative exploratoire rétrospective avait pour but d’explorer la perception de l’infirmière débutante québécoise en lien avec l’adéquation de la formation collégiale reçue, les compétences développées et les exigences au seuil d’entrée à la profession. Elle a permis d'explorer les compétences de la nouvelle infirmière nécessaires à l'accomplissement de ses activités professionnelles et de dégager les facteurs limitant et facilitant l’appropriation de ces compétences en regard de la formation collégiale reçue. Des entrevues semi-dirigées individuelles ont été conduites auprès de quinze (n = 15) infirmières débutantes ayant diplômé d’un programme d’études collégiales en soins infirmiers, travaillant dans un centre intégré universitaire de santé et de services sociaux (CIUSSS) ou un centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux (CISSS) au Québec. L’étude s’est appuyée sur le cadre de référence de la Mosaïque des compétences cliniques de l’infirmière : compétences initiales (Leprohon, Lessard, Lévesque-Barbès, & Bellavance, 2009). Une analyse de contenu des données recueillies a été réalisée. Les résultats ont démontré les difficultés vécues de l’infirmière débutante lors de son entrée sur le marché du travail au niveau de; la prise en charge d’un patient instable, la coordination des soins, l’autonomie décisionnelle, l’utilisation des résultats probants et la collaboration interdisciplinaire. Par ailleurs, communiquer avec les patients, faire preuve de professionnalisme, intervenir et effectuer le suivi d’une situation de santé stable, sont des facilités qui ont été soulevées par les nouvelles infirmières. En parallèle, des facteurs facilitant l’appropriation des compétences en lien avec la formation collégiale reçue ont été rapportés, et font principalement référence à l’apprentissage expérientiel et technique. D’autre part, la représentativité de la réalité clinique en stage, les approches pédagogiques et le fonctionnement en stage ont été identifiés comme étant des facteurs limitant le développement des compétences de la relève infirmière lors de la formation collégiale reçue. À la lumière des résultats obtenus, plusieurs constats peuvent être établis quant au niveau d’acquisition des compétences de l’infirmière débutante ayant suivi une formation collégiale en soins infirmiers, soulevant l’écart entre les compétences développées au terme de cette formation et celles attendues par les milieux cliniques au seuil d’entrée à la profession. L’infirmière débutante est confrontée à des situations cliniques pour lesquelles elle n’a pas été initiée durant sa formation, ce qui peut l’amener à vivre de l’anxiété, perdre confiance en elle, rencontrer des difficultés à accomplir son rôle professionnel, commettre des erreurs ou encore, décider de quitter la profession. À cet égard, des recommandations dans les cinq champs de la pratique infirmière ont été élaborées afin d’améliorer les compétences cliniques minimales de la relève infirmière en début de pratique en vue d’une meilleure appropriation de ses activités professionnelles, gage d’une prestation de soins de qualité et sécuritaire. »--Pages ii-iii.
