La description des transferts couplés de masse, quantité de mouvement et d'énergie est faite à partir d'une simulation eulérienne lagrangienne. Le modèle de propagation du rayonnement associe la théorie de Mie, le modèle Ck et une évolution de la méthode de Monte Carlo, nommée MMC 2.2, qui permet de bien prendre en compte la propagation du rayonnement dans un milieu de propriétés radiatives hétérogènes. Cette nouvelle version est validée puis comparée avec les autres techniques de type MMC déjà existantes dans la littérature. Ce travail met ensuite en avant les problèmes de simulations numériques liés à la modélisation 3D du transfert radiatif dans un milieu où la fonction de phase est fortement anisotrope (caractéristique de gouttes d'eau). Une étude complète (dynamique, thermique et rayonnement) permet la validation du code de calcul avec des données expérimentales. Puis, plusieurs configurations sont testées en vue d'améliorer l'atténuation du rayonnement (rampes, augmentation du débit, .). Elles permettent notamment de dégager des pistes de recherche pour l'optimisation de ces dispositifs de boucliers thermiques.

Un dispositif expérimental permet d'appliquer un flux de chaleur uniforme élevé régulé sur une face d'une double paroi en acier noir épais de largeur réglable. Les équations elliptiques de transfert radiatif et de transport conducto-convectives turbulentes sont résolues au moyen du code fluent. Le fonctionnement de la double paroi est mis en évidence, et une nouvelle corrélation globale du flux de chaleur interne d'une double paroi rayonnante est établie, ainsi qu'un critère d'optimisation. Une méthode thermoanémométrique corrélative et spectrale est développée au moyen d'une sonde unique en quartz à double microthermocouple. Les champs moyens et fluctuants de température et de vitesse, les densités de flux convectifs et radiatifs, ainsi que la structure turbulente des couches limites thermiques sont ainsi déterminés expérimentalement, particulièrement en régime de transition. La méthode thermoanémométrique et le bilan thermique complet sont valides sur une plaque plane verticale conductrice et rayonnante. Il apparaît que le nombre de Grashof critique diminue fortement lorsque la densité du flux augmente, même si le rayonnement domine.
