Book Synopsis Transcriptional Regulation in the Interferon System by : Ganes C. Sen
Download or read book Transcriptional Regulation in the Interferon System written by Ganes C. Sen and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Provides detailed information about the signal transduction pathways used by interferons to activate gene transcription. In addition, this book discusses how the same pathways are used by many other cytokines and thus provide a forum for cross-talk among these important biological response modifiers. Additionally, the book introduces the interferon system and describes the interferon-inducible genes whose products are responsible for the cellular actions of interferons. The nature of the interferon receptors and how the transcriptional signals are transmitted from the receptors on the cell surface to the genes in the nucleus are discussed in detail. Finally, the use of similar pathways of signal transduction by other cytokines is highlighted.

This book was released on 1990 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "One of the main goals of this project was to systematically evaluate the virus-inducible properties of the individual human interferon-beta (IFN-$ beta$) enhansons. Synthetic oligonucleotides representing the different enhansons were subcloned into an enhancerless SV$ sb1$CAT vector; the hybrid plasmids obtained were tested in different human cell lines by transient expression assay. The P2 motif, which is 80% homologous to the NF-$ kappa$B recognition sequence, was inducible by Sendai virus. In contrast, the P1 enhanson was transcriptionally silent. Unexpectedly, a multimer of the P5 motif conferred significant virus inducibility to a heterologous transcription unit. A DNA fragment encompassing P5, P1, and P2 mimicked the transcriptional activity of the whole IFN-$ beta$ promoter, indicating that the three enhansons act synergistically to confer a virus-inducible expression pattern. The effect of certain trans-acting factors on the individual IFN-$ beta$ enhansons was also assessed. Together, these experiments indicate that the synergism between the P5, P1, and P2 enhansons is mediated by at least two distinct transcription factors, NF-$ kappa$B and IRF-1." --

Download or read book Human Herpesviruses written by Ann Arvin and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2007-08-16 with total page 1325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive account of the human herpesviruses provides an encyclopedic overview of their basic virology and clinical manifestations. This group of viruses includes human simplex type 1 and 2, Epstein–Barr virus, Kaposi's Sarcoma-associated herpesvirus, cytomegalovirus, HHV6A, 6B and 7, and varicella-zoster virus. The viral diseases and cancers they cause are significant and often recurrent. Their prevalence in the developed world accounts for a major burden of disease, and as a result there is a great deal of research into the pathophysiology of infection and immunobiology. Another important area covered within this volume concerns antiviral therapy and the development of vaccines. All these aspects are covered in depth, both scientifically and in terms of clinical guidelines for patient care. The text is illustrated generously throughout and is fully referenced to the latest research and developments.

Book Synopsis Protein Dimerization and Oligomerization in Biology by : Jacqueline M. Matthews
Download or read book Protein Dimerization and Oligomerization in Biology written by Jacqueline M. Matthews and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-09-04 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume has a strong focus on homo-oligomerization, which is surprisingly common. However, protein function is so often linked to both homo- and hetero-oligomerization and many heterologous interactions likely evolved from homologous interaction, so this volume also covers many aspects of hetero-oligomerization.
