Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Trading is like gambling", "trading is a game of chance", "trading is a scam", "play the markets"... how many times have you heard these claims? They are all urban legends, nothing more wrong. I am a trader for over 25 years, and for two years, I have been a fund manager for a small Italian investment bank. With "Trading is an Entrepreneurial Activity" I will take you behind the scenes of a trade; you will see all the trader's work behind an operation before he presses the "buy" or "sell" button on his platform. Most people think that trading is simple and that it is enough an advice of a friend employed in the bank to get easy money. And at the first difficulty, the problems start. So, after seeing their dreams of wealth shipwrecked and decreasing their savings, there remains to them nothing any more than blaming the trading by calling it a scam. When instead, they should blame their presumption and ignorance. Ignorance understood in the etymological meaning of the word, that is, of lack of knowledge in the field of finance. Trading is not as easy as you are led to believe, in particular by certain advertisements and websites. Know that my results come from much study and practice. Trading is not a way to get rich overnight; it is not an automatic system that you "click a button and makes money." Trading is not suitable for all those people who are unwilling to commit and work hard to get results. Is trading difficult? Yes, it is, but neither more nor less than any other profession. Each profession is difficult, and it seems impossible to carry out at the beginning when we do not have the right skills and suitable preparation. So, what is trading? Trading is an entrepreneurial activity with its business plan in which everything is well planned, from the smallest aspect, and which may seem insignificant, to the most important; just like it happens in a company. Trading is an opportunity, as long as you respect its rules.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite being the third largest economy in Southeast Asia, Malaysian entrepreneurial activity is under-reported in the scholarly literature. This book extends such research by examining the impact of entrepreneurship on its economy and evaluating the existing systemic problems. The Malaysian economy has benefited from the density of knowledge-based businesses and utilization of the latest technologies in the manufacturing and digital economies. However, Malaysia faces ongoing challenges, namely concentration of wealth in the city, high regional unemployment and workplace gender inequality. In regional areas, there is an over-reliance on agriculture and necessity based entrepreneurship. Consequently, entrepreneurial activity has been encouraged with the creation of eco-systems, seed corn funding and provision of entrepreneurship education to offer entrepreneurial career choices. Providing recommendations and best practice for driving entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial behaviours, this contributed volume presents the first opportunity to reflect on both the success stories and systemic problems related to effective entrepreneurial behaviour in a South East Asian context.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: American Indian business is booming. The number of American Indian– and Alaska Native–owned businesses increased by 15.3 percent from 2007 to 2012—a time when the total number of US businesses increased by just 2 percent—and receipts grew from $34.4 million in 2002 to $8.8 billion in 2012. Despite this impressive growth, there is an absence of small businesses on reservations, and Native Americans own private businesses at the lowest rate per capita for any ethnic or racial group in the United States. Many Indigenous entrepreneurs face unique cultural and practical challenges in starting, locating, and operating a business, from a perceived lack of a culture of entrepreneurship and a suspicion of capitalism to the difficulty of borrowing start-up funds when real estate is held in trust and cannot be used as collateral. This book provides an accessible introduction to American Indian businesses, business practices, and business education. Its chapters cover the history of American Indian business from early trading posts to today’s casino boom; economic sustainability, self-determination, and sovereignty; organization and management; marketing; leadership; human resource management; tribal finance; business strategy and positioning; American Indian business law; tribal gaming operations; the importance of economic development and the challenges of economic leakage; entrepreneurship; technology and data management; business ethics; service management; taxation; accounting; and health-care management. American Indian Business also furthers the inclusion of Indigenous perspectives in the study of American business practices in general and demonstrates the significant impact that American Indians have had on business, as well as their cultural contributions to management, leadership, marketing, economic development, and entrepreneurship.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this work Neils Steensgaard combines an analytical economic approach with detailed historic scholarship to provide an imaginitive and important analysis of a central incident in modern world history. The event is the breaking of the Portuguese monopoly on Asian trade in the seventeenth century by English and Dutch mercantile interests. This change the author demonstrates, was not simply the triumph of the new powers over the old. Rather, the Dutch--English victory heralded a structural change in international trade: the triumph of entrepreneurial capitalism over the older economic mode of the "peddler-merchant." Professor Steensgaard's study is divided into two major parts. The first examines the economic and political structure of the seventeenth century institutions in the Near East, Portugal, England, and the Netherlands. The author demonstrates that the rise to preeminence of the English and Dutch East India Companies over the Portuguese "State of India" was the result of the superior economic and bureaucratic organization of the former. The eclipse of Portuguese power in general, the author argues, is best understood as an institutional failure–an inability to adapt to changing patterns and demands of economic life. The second part of Professor Steensgaard's study provides a detailed historical account of an important event in the fall of the Portuguese trading empire–the loss of the city of Hormuz in 1622. Hormuz, located at a strategic point at the entrance of the Persian Gulf, was a central port city on the Asian trade route. It fell to an English and Persian force. The author demonstrates why this event exemplifies the Portuguese institutional weaknesses that are discussed in the first part of the book.
