Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic has exposed the upsides and downsides of international trade in medical goods and services. Open trade can increase access to medical services and goods—and the critical inputs needed to manufacture them—improve quality and variety, and reduce costs. However, excessive concentration of production, restrictive trade policies, supply chain disruptions, and regulatory divergence can jeopardize the ability of public health systems to respond to pandemics and other health crises. Trade Therapy: Deepening Cooperation to Strengthen Pandemic Defenses, coordinated by Nadia Rocha and Michele Ruta at the World Bank and Marc Bacchetta and Joscelyn Magdeleine at the World Trade Organization, provides new data on trade in medical goods and services and medical value chains, surveys the evolving policy landscape before and during the pandemic, and proposes an action plan to improve trade policies and deepen international cooperation to deal with future pandemics. As the COVID-19 pandemic lingers, the focus of policy action is on the response, which includes actions aimed at removing bottlenecks and providing government support to promote equitable access to vaccines. As the emergency subsides, the focus should shift to prevention and preparedness. Steps to close information gaps—building on the Multilateral Leaders Task Force on COVID-19, the ACT-Accelerator, and the open markets, for example—by negotiating tariff reductions on medical goods and greater market access in services should take priority. Also important are measures to improve the efficiency of markets, which include harmonizing regulation through mutual recognition or equivalence of standards and creating international standards for essential medical goods, inputs, and production processes. Agreement on a crisis rulebook to be deployed during an emergency—including clear and agreed limits on export policy flexibility and shared rules on intellectual property flexibilities—would provide a more solid policy foundation to address future challenges.

Book excerpt: Why Should You Buy This Book? Self-control is probably the most important skill you need to acquire as a trader. Unfortunately, most trading psychology books can be very vague and short on specific strategies to take control of your mental state while trading. Trading psychology shares equal importance with money management and the trading system, yet most traders remain unaware of the importance of considering their trading psychology when designing a trading system. What traders need is an unambiguous trader psychology system that can easily slot into whatever system they are trading and enable them to trade their system according to their trading plan. Control Your Inner Trader draws on the experience of an eight-year trading veteran who is also a qualified therapist. Behavioral and therapeutic techniques are included in the book that are easy for anyone to follow. Reader Reviews QCD Well worth the time and money... Ms. Thomas makes some analogies in her books that I have NEVER read in other trading psychology books. Excellent. Well worth the money. This book, combined with "Overcome Your Fear in Trading" are most excellent. Made me want to look into some of her other works. I was not disappointed Alan 5.0 out of 5 stars A refreshing new angle on how to improve trading results. Few trader psychology books deliver on sufficient tools. This book is surprisingly different. Despite being short compared to other well-known top trader books as "Trading in the Zone by Mark Douglas" and "Trading for a Living by Alexander Elder" I must say that "Control Your Inner Trader" is definitely among the better ones. Any trader who believe that he or she can improve despite even good results will find this book have a refreshing new angle on how one can improve behavior and become a much better trader. This book is time well spent. Patrick Higdon Great Book! Useful, quick and to the point! Useful, quick and to the point. I highly recommend this book to anyone experiencing trading frustrations. Many times the first thing we question is our "system" or methodology when the greatest obstacle to success is ourselves, our "Inner Trader." This book is worth a read of you're just starting out or have been trading for a long time. Alastair Forres Very helpful book indeed, in a difficult subject area For a short book, I found more practical solutions for erroneous mental habits whilst trading, than you might ever imagine. This is (for me) the most difficult area of trading and the author LR Thomas has got right the nub of issues with no fluff or filler. I am adopting parts of this book as my mantra.

Book excerpt: In this ground-breaking and highly controversial book, Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson attacks the very foundations of modern psychotherapy from Freud to Jung, from Fritz Perls to Carl Rodgers. With passion and clarity, Against Therapy addresses the profession's core weaknesses, contending that, since therapy's aim is to change people, and this is achieved according to therapist's own notions and prejudices, the psychological process is necessarily corrupt. With a foreword by the eminent British psychologist Dorothy Rowe, this cogent and convincing book has shattering implications.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Almost weekly, the news is full of stories about disappearing retail chains. From House of Fraser and BHS to Toys'R'Us and Sears, recognised names are vanishing overnight – as such large organizations disappear, so the malls, shopping centres, high streets and main streets become emptier and less appealing to visit. The retail sector is hugely important in terms of job numbers: in the US, it employs around 30 million people (directly and indirectly); in the UK, around 10 million. As such, anything that jeopardises the retail sector will have a deep and lasting impact on millions of lives, as well as on public policy. While many blame the 'Amazon effect', this is an oversimplification. Deeper forces are at work that are changing people's relationships with brands, the balance of power between producers and consumers, and the whole nature of the supply chain that has existed since the industrial revolution. Retail Therapy offers a comprehensive analysis of these forces and their impact on the world of retailing. More importantly, it presents a cogent analysis of the longer term trends that are shaping retailing, and outlines a clear road map for sustainable success in the future.

Informed by a coherent, multilateral perspective, each chapter covers a specific topic, including: discussions on the basis of state sovereignty and the role of international human rights law; the concept of human security and psychosocial risk to vulnerable populations; and the international economics and trade of public mental health initiatives for families across the globe. Written in an accessible style and peppered with vignettes and descriptive case examples, the text encourages the reader to better understand and implement family systems approaches from the perspective of the international system, with a focus on cultural considerations and best practice throughout. Combining key theoretical tenets of family therapy and essential knowledge of international relations relevant to global mental health, International Family Therapy is an essential guide for family therapy practitioners interested in working internationally.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Oaxaca is known for many things--its indigenous groups, archaeological sites, crafts, and textiles--but not for mental health care. When one talks with Oaxacans about mental health, most say it's a taboo topic and that people there think you "have to be crazy to go to a psychologist." Yet throughout Oaxaca are signs advertising the services of psicólogos; there are prominent conferences of mental health professionals; and self-help groups like Neurotics Anonymous thrive, where participants rise to say, "Hola, mi nombre es Raquel, y soy neurótica." How does one explain the recent growth of Euroamerican-style therapies in the region? Author Whitney L. Duncan analyzes this phenomenon of "psy-globalization" and develops a rich ethnography of its effects on Oaxacans' understandings of themselves and their emotions, ultimately showing how globalizing forms of care are transformative for and transformed by the local context. She also delves into the mental health impacts of migration from Mexico to the United States, both for migrants who return and for the family members they leave behind. This book is a recipient of the Norman L. and Roselea J. Goldberg Prize from Vanderbilt University Press for the best book in the area of medicine.
