Book excerpt: Excerpt from Country Sermons, Vol. 3 Our very modest author having at the earnest request of so many brethren, reluctantly consented to this publication of the Gospel sermons, terms them country sermons, Vol. III., because he delivered them, not in an imposing church edifice of a large city, but in a plain church building in the country and because he arranged them for print in that country parsonage of the Shenandoah Valley, Virginia, where he com posed that precious booklet Your Confirmation Vow, that gem The Book of Devotion, and the two former volumes of sermons on free texts. The writer of these lines however makes bold to say that such sermons. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: This collection of stories by "Town and Country Sermons" where he attempts to compile many of his Christian Theology thoughts consolidated in a single draft and offer them at an affordable price so that everyone can read them. some stories are interesting and amazing, while other softly creep up on you and pull you in. Charles Kingsley, a notable 19th-century English clergyman, novelist, and social reformer, wrote "Town and Country Sermons" as a collection of sermons. This collection demonstrates Kingsley's dynamic approach to preaching in addition to his deep dedication to addressing moral and social challenges of the day. Kingsley connects the spiritual and practical in these sermons, addressing both the urban and rural regions of Victorian England. He emphasizes the importance of Christian ideals in everyday life, difficult those around him to live virtuous and compassionate lives regardless of their social or geographical circumstances. Kingsley's sermons involve a wide range of problems including social justice, poverty, environmental protection, and individuals' and society's ethical obligations. He encourages his audience to be active agents of positive change and advocates for a Christian faith that is engaged with modern-day concerns. One of the key themes of "Town and Country Sermons" is that religious religion should not be limited to the church but should pervade all aspects of life.

This book was released on 2017-07-22 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Fruit of the Spirit and Other Sermons From a Greylock Pulpit Most of these sermons were delivered between january and June of eighteen hundred and ninety-seven. They first appeared in a weekly publication called A Greylock Pulpit. It seems fitting to give a few reasons which led to their publication. Surrounded with machinery for what is known as Institutional church work, I desired to make emphatic the inspiration which belongs to the living Word. Having already in use a sufficiently elaborate order of worship, multiplied organizations, a parish house with gymnasium and amusement rooms, a young men's literary society, all splendid channels for energy; the pulpit as a herald may speak to the indifferent life of the community and induce interest by means of the impersonal page. In the half-hour or more given to the sermon, there is much condensation, which is not in vain. If opportunity for review be given the people from week to week. I saw a further reason in the good chance to revive old friendships. One who has changed his residence, the old homestead for the college, the college for the world, one church, town or country for another, what ever his gain, must keenly feel the loss of separation. Perhaps my ser mons may prove a long, rough pole, by which I shall still save drowning friendships. Please note that the series was not christened The, but A Grey lock Pulpit. The title was given me by Greylock Mountain itself. The base begins beneath my study and the mountain rises to a height of four thousand feet of beauty and strength. On a clear day at least four states, New York, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts and perhaps Connecticut can be seen from this summit. Greylock is Berkshire's Mount Zion. If mountaineers are always freemen, mountain preach ers ought to be free preachers. This Taconic mountain has been the object of much contention among geologists. However, their polemic was of the last decade. Theological strife is happily passing, and the church of today has earnestly begun to study sociology. Greylock has lately been made a type by geologists. The churches of our valley are slowly conforming to a higher ideal. Again Greylock is a deposit, not the result of volcanic action like the lower and opposite Hoosac range. The Greylock message therefore is that our social changes ought to be educational and gradual rather than fierce and revolutionary. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mining Town Sermons: Short Sermons Preached in the Mining Towns of Colorado In contemplating this text, which must reecho on many an occasion from every human soul, two things are plain: That there is something higher than we; and that the loftiest desire of the soul is to be led there. And for man to acknowledge this, is, to say the least, advancement. Though man be the crowning work of the world, yet there is a rock higher than he, and that is the everlasting Rock of Ages. Who is a rock, save our God says the Psalmist. Thou art my rock and my fortress. He only is my rock; the rock of my strength. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Plain Sermons: By Contributors to the "Tracts for the Times" Others, again, are discontented because they have not those domestic blessings which some of their neighbours enjoy, such as relations, wife, and children, and the like. Yet jesus christ chose to be without all these; by which HE would doubtless show us, that there is nothing of any importance, nothing worth caring about, in all these things. Neither are we the better if we have them, neither are we the worse if we have them not. If we have such comforts, we are to be thankful for them if we have them not, we are quite as much to be thankful that we have them not; for we mav be quite certain, in either case, that we have what is best, when we have what god gives.
