Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Method in Theology stands, with Insight, as Bernard Lonergan's most important work. It is Lonergan's answer to those who would argue that in this time of cultural change and dissolution the believer is afloat on a sea of multiplying theologies, without rudder or compass. Lonergan was resolute in his refusal to be defeatist on this point. While agreeing that theology must continually change to mediate between religion and culture, he worked out an integral method to guide and control this ongoing process. This is a reprint of the 1973 edition. A new annotated edition of Method in Theology will be published eventually as a part of the Collected Works of Bernard Lonergan. Bernard Lonergan (1904-1984), a professor of theology, taught at Regis College, Harvard University, and Boston College. An established author known for his Insight and Method in Theology, Lonergan received numerous honorary doctorates, was a Companion of the Order of Canada in 1971 and was named as an original members of the International Theological Commission by Pope Paul VI.

Book excerpt: The Faults of the Owens Valley is both a murder mystery and reflections on the history of the Owens Valley. A serial killer disrupts the lives of the major characters, but the landscape and the history of the Valley are also major forces, including the water wars, tensions among tribal communities and waves of later immigrants, and conflicts between the environment and economic development. The major characters-two sheriff's deputies, a local businessman and restaurant owner, a minister, a truck repairman, and a high school teacher-respond in different ways to the killings, which eventually threaten their own lives and livelihood. The killer skillfully plays on Valley residents' hopes and fears, leading to an explosive conclusion. The historic events of the Bishop Creek battle of 1862, the Aqueduct, and Manzanar are all highlighted in the book's geography. An afterword by the author explains the interweaving of fact and fiction in the novel.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world is on the brink of major changes. The vibrations are increasing on the planet and act as a catalyst that is empowering the light and suppressing the dark energies. During this process, great opportunities to be a part of a magnificent spiritual evolution are opening for those who choose the way of the loving light of God. There is enormous confusion for many who have been subjected to false perceptions and are controlled through fear, the great tool of the dark side of governments and yes, even some religions. This book is a result of the authors 33 year search for greater truths, enhanced by communications from several spirit sources of the Deity, plus answers about other life in the Cosmos including mind expanding descriptions from highly evolved beings about life on other planetary systems. The author included several communications from friends and family when they described their transition experiences after crossing over to the World Beyond. These messages go beyond fundamental religious myths and describe various dimensions in the spiritual realm. This book is for you: if youve ever wondered what your purpose in life is. if you want to unleash greater powers of your mind. if youve wondered whether there is intelligent life out there. if youve wondered what the Afterlife is really like. if you have any fear of dying, death or crossing over. if you really want to evolve spiritually. Ron has given many lectures and presentations over several years to a variety of organizations. Expressing his creativity, Ron also paints in oil and is the cover artist. From a reader: Once I started reading your book, it was so interesting I couldnt put it down and read it straight through. I need eight more copies for family and friends. Beverly R, Novi, Michigan

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Utilizing resources from Martin Luther and the Lutheran tradition, this study offers an understanding of the gospel as promise as key to addressing the challenge of relating the missio Dei to a generous, constructive approach toward the religious other. In its construction of a Lutheran missiology, it retrieves and reappropriates four resources from the Lutheran tradition: the gospel as promise, the law/gospel distinction, a theology of grace as promise of mercy fulfilled, and a theology of the cross utilizing the hiddenness of God. The law of God as accusing yet webbing humanity to its Creator; the gospel as the comforting promise of mercy; and the hiddenness of God as mystifying form the overarching framework within which the Lutheran missiology presented here seeks to engage the religious other by dialectically relating gospel proclamation and dialogue. Such a view of "mission shaped by promise" offers the paradox of God being both revealed and hidden in the cross as a distinctive contribution to an interreligious dialogue centered on the ambiguity and hiddenness of God.

Book excerpt: Can psychology and religion engage in constructive dialogue ? Has psychology a contribution to make in Christian formation ? These are some of the issues addressed in this volume, marking 25 years of the Institute of Psychology of the Gregorian University. The twenty articles which make up the work offer essential insights into how psychology and religion can meet and interact constructively, at the level of theory and of practice. These insights are presented in the context of an overall Christian anthropology which continues to develop and to further refine its practical applications. The contributions are divided into four sections - theory and method, dialogue between psychology and other disciplines, applications in different cultures, and concrete experiences of applying a psychologically-informed Christian anthropology in the educational setting. The balanced approach presented in this work makes it both a serious instrument of study and a valuable point of reference for the educator. Its constant reference to a Christian conception of the person will help avoid short-sighted pragmatism.

Argus Pritchett, a rumpled, retired cop refuses to look the other way. They stay in touch over the years as Amy works out her life goals, independence and happiness. Harv Leigh finds himself in Bakersfield longer than he planned. If Harv is part of the answer for Amy, he must wait. Will he? Will a trip to the Big Island help? And what about Trez? Amy believes Trez can bend luck itself. Treasure Williams, Amy's role model and mentor, wonders if Amy recognizes happiness.
