Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Accepting the Psychic Torch is a brand-new collection that contains the full text of two of Sylvia’s best-selling books: the landmark Adventures of a Psychic, which details how a little girl from Kansas City, Missouri, discovered her gifts and was then led on a decades-long journey to ultimately become "one of America’s most successful clairvoyants"; and If You Could See What I See, a handbook on spirituality that is also full of anecdotes from Sylvia’s life, both before and after she became a world-famous medium who spends her time writing, lecturing, and appearing on TV. Yet this collection also contains a special treat: an all-new volume from Sylvia! Titled Passing the Psychic Torch, it focuses on the incredibly special relationship Sylvia had with her beloved psychic grandmother, Ada Coil. Drawing on her cherished memories, along with Grandma Ada’s numerous letters—many of which are reprinted in these pages—Sylvia gives us a rich portrait of a blessed soul who helped so many. She also delves into her own childhood and teenage years as never before as she relates how her dear grandmother not only became her mentor, but was indeed the mother she never really had. This is the book Sylvia’s fans have been begging her to write…and it doesn’t disappoint!

Book excerpt: "In this innovative book, Stacy Holman Jones presents torch singing as a much more complicated phenomenon than the familiar trope of a woman lamenting her victimhood. With an ethnographer's eye, she observes the bluesy torch singers, asking if they are possibly performing critiques of the very lyrics they are singing. From this perspective, we see the singer giving expression not only to desire but also to an incipient determination to resist and change. Holman Jones also reveals points of contact in the opposition between spectators and performers, emotion and intellect, and love and power. Instead of interpreting the expression of love as a woman's violent mistake - as willing deception and passive fate - Holman Jones allows us to hear an active search for hope."--BOOK JACKET.

Book excerpt: Sabotage cripples young Slava Gdansk's plans as he leads a newborn church in the small Russian community of Bolshoigorsk. A mysterious fire, scandalous accusations and a jail stint lead Slava and his wife, Oksana, to place great hope in a visiting team of American short-term missionaries to bolster their courage. This handful of idealistic Americans, beset by a shocking tragedy before leaving the States, has under two weeks to help rally the fledgling church. Tony Barton, a loose gun on the team, grapples with which is more dangerous: the covert persecution or the beautiful Russian translator. Interactions with angels, both in worship and warfare, are not enough to support the wavering faithful. Would God truly allow the severe afflictions they must endure? As the surprising opposition hammers the devoted, the mission is not only for the survival of the church, but for their very lives.

Book excerpt: Beginning with the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr., the North Philadelphia neighborhood of Logan experienced a massive change and shifting population. The racial boiling point in Philadelphia was ten years later in 1978. Ben's is set in the summer of that year when turf wars, crime and political upheaval were rampant in the city. The central character, Torch, is a small-time numbers writer who works for Bah-Bah, the head of a lucrative gambling and loan shark operation in south Philadelphia. When Bah-Bah is forced to change the location of his business and go underground, he runs into some tense situations with the members of Ben's. They are a loosely organized group of young men-including Torch-who are engaged in various types of petty crime and hustles. The situation is made more complicated and dangerous by the existence of a hidden meth lab and several, local, rogue cops who want to find it and rip it off.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When I want to read a book, I write one. So wrote the 19th century politician and novelist Benjamin Disraeli - Washington Irving said something very similar - and its a maxim which Ive adopted as my own. Almost all of the writing Ive done over many years has been based on wanting to read a book on a particular subject - a book which research told me didnt currently seem to exist. Carrying the Torch, like all my other books to date, was born out of the desire to read a good book on an interesting subject: finding nothing available that quite matched up to my expectations, I decided to write it myself. I wanted a good, general book about the phenomenon of unrequited love in the worlds art, how important a theme it has been in novels, poems, music and film for so long, why artists keep coming back to it again and again, what it actually is, what it feels like and how it might be explained and so forth. I like to think that thats the book Ive written. All the world loves a lover and most people, whether they openly admit it or not (and that includes a great many men!) love a good love story: as I make clear in the book, it doesnt seem to matter if the story has a tragic or at least unhappy ending, we dont enjoy it any less and may even enjoy it all the more, as the popularity of weepies in book or film form attests.

But when they received unexpected news that Teresa, only 38, is dying of cancer, their lives all begin to unravel and drift apart. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: a sympathetic coming-of-age story... Cheries romantic misadventures are relatable throughout, reflecting the experiences of co-eds experiencing their first brushes with adult love. An often cynical look at college years and romance, The Torch Bearers Exorcism is a cautionary tale about getting too swept up in what looks like love. Clarion Foreword Review The Torch Bearers Exorcism starts at the close of the 1980s. Cherie is an unusually private and guarded girl with a nonconforming sense of style and a habit of constantly doubting everything around her. When she meets David during her first week on campus her emotions go into overdrive. Hes exactly what she would have asked for if it were possible to wish people into existence. They seem to be two sides of a coin. But does he actually care about her? David is an outgoing, attractive and popular guy with rather a lot more experience in the world than ingnue Cherie. Swept up by passion, subterfuge, confusion and magnetism; Cherie must untangle what she feels and whether she can believe his love for her is real. This is a story about painful love, being a young woman in a less egalitarian time, betrayal and overcoming it. About learning the hard way that people arent always what they seem or what we hoped they would be. About healing and growing into independence. http://www.torchbearersexorcism.com/

As young men they were hopeful, ambitious, and foolish. Their families claimed real or imagined pedigrees while clinging to old superstitions involving the resident oracle. Though adulation of nobility was taken for granted among the common folk, the nobles acted just like everybody else, chasing their own tails, oblivious to the bigger picture. About the Author Nene La Rosa was born in Sicily and lives in the United States. His first book is "World Fraternity: A Boomer's Dream?"
