Book Synopsis "Glimpse of Women in sport" by : Capt. Dr. (Mrs.) Satpal Kaur
Download or read book "Glimpse of Women in sport" written by Capt. Dr. (Mrs.) Satpal Kaur and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2015-11-21 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A critical analysis of women's participation in sports has not received the proper attention which it deserves from most of the Indian scholars. Men have played their dominant role in society as well as in sports which smacks of masculine superiority whereas women have been sidelined to lay a minor role. They were considered delicate, submissive and emotional. For these "clinging vine" creatures to compete in sports was unthinkable because they occupy a secondary status in Indian society. Moreover, society does not attach value to bring women into the sports field. The evidence of what the status of women was in the earliest history is found in the sacred Hindu texts, the Vedas namely Rig Veda, Yajur Veda, Atharva Veda and Saam Veda. Each one of these texts is quite voluminous, the Rig Veda being the largest and the oldest. It is important to note that the hymns contained in these texts were composed by various eminent sages and during different time periods.

Download or read book Caryl Churchill written by Mary Luckhurst and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-11-27 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of Europe's greatest playwrights, Caryl Churchill has been internationally celebrated for four decades. She has exploded the narrow definitions of political theatre to write consistently hard-edged and innovative work. Always unpredictable in her stage experiments, her plays have stretched the relationships between form and content, actor and spectator to their limits. This new critical introduction to Churchill examines her political agendas, her collaborations with other practitioners, and looks at specific production histories of her plays. Churchill's work continues to have profound resonances with her audiences and this book explores her preoccupation with representing such phenomena as capitalism, genocide, environmental issues, identity, psychiatry and mental illness, parenting, violence and terrorism. It includes new interviews with actors and directors of her work, and gathers together source material from her wide-ranging career.
Book Synopsis Women and Work in South Asia by : Deipica Bagchi
Download or read book Women and Work in South Asia written by Deipica Bagchi and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-16 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Women's work is central to the social and economic aspirations of the countries of South Asia. Their contribution to agriculture, industry and services is critical. However, planners and policy makers frequently ignore women's economic roles, drawing simplistic conclusions from inadequate data. Women and Work in South Asia provides a cross-cultural perspective on research on women's work in South Asia. Integrating macro and micro analysis, Asian and Western contributors analyse the inadequacies of official statistics and explore, through case studies, the cultural and socio-economic position of women at work in the region.
