Book excerpt: The Top Guns(tm) manual is in the 5th edition and was created and reviewed by experts in their field. The manual is easy to read and use. With the Top Guns(tm) manual you can educate yourself and become an expert in the field of practical ballistics. The "Top Guns (tm)" Ammunition, Ballistics, Explosives & Survivor Preparedness Manual is used to compare and understand the performance and design characteristics of numerous popular rounds of ammunition & explosives. The "TOP GUNS (tm) Manual explains the following: 1.) The background, notes, assumptions and formulas used when calculating the ballistic characteristics. 2.) The individual tables of characteristics for each round based on the values listed such as bullet weight, cartridge charge and powder type. The ballistic calculations involve a variety of equations that seek to predict the behavior and characteristics of the round being fired. The ballistic equations are divided into 1.) Internal Ballistics and 2.) External Ballistics. 3.) A Chart of Gun Powder Burn Rates & Sniper & Downrange cards 4.) An Overview of Explosives 5.) Several Emergency & Survival Preparedness Guides There are nearly 10,000 different kinds of firearms being used in over 150 countries the origins of which date back to the 1600's. These firearms all have one thing in common. The firearm is a complex balance of chemistry, physics, optics, metallurgy and ergonomics. These fields of science are used to design an efficient handheld device that has the metallurgy utilized in such a manner that the firearm barrel and mechanics can withstand the chemical explosion of the gunpowder and propel a round down range in a manner accurate enough to hit a target. This same firearm must also employ the physics of ballistics that produces a bullet that leaves the barrel with the correct amount of spin in order to stabilize the bullet in flight. The firearm must also have a design that employs the exacting physics that allows the energy and pressure of the chemical explosion to propel the bullet through the rifled barrel, use this same energy to eject the casing, cycle the action and repeat this thousands of times using a frame that is lightweight and convenient to aim and carry. The optics must be such that it allows the human eye to focus on a point down-range, usually in order to deliver a bullet reliably on target, whenever needed. All of the above, involve extensive functional decomposition, mathematical modeling and ballistics calculations and testing, in order to produce a reliable mass-produced weapon. Ballistic calculations involve a variety of equations that seek to predict the behavior and characteristics of the round being fired. The equations are usually divided into 1.) Internal Ballistics 2.) Transitional Ballistics 3.) External Ballistics and 4. Terminal Ballistics. The Top Guns (tm) Manual will educate you on the ballistics, the calculations and terms used in designing ammunition.

Book excerpt: Munitions are anything that can be used in combat including bullets, bombs, missiles, warheads, mines, artillery and rockets. Munitions is the collective term for all material used in war. The purpose of munitions is to project force against a selected target. However, the nature of munitions includes delivery or combat supporting munitions such as pyrotechnic or incendiary compounds. Since the design of the cartridge, the meaning has been transferred to the assembly of a projectile and its propellant in a single package. Ammunition involves the application of fire to targets, general use of weapons by personnel, explosives and propellants, cartridge systems, high explosive projectiles (HE), warheads, shaped charge forms of attack on armor and aircraft, carrier projectiles, fuses, mortar ammunition, small arms ammunition, grenades, mines, pyrotechnics, improved conventional munitions, and terminally guided munition. Handgun ammunition is usually designed to project force against a relatively close selected target. The nature of handgun ammunition also includes delivery or combat supporting munitions such as hollow point, full metal jacket, expanding jacket, shot shell, non-lethal or pyrotechnic and incendiary compounds. Since the design of the cartridge, the meaning has been transferred to the assembly of a projectile and its propellant in a single package. This book gives a comprehensive discussion of the dimensions, variations, design, ballistics and other characteristics that are associated with handgun ammunition ranging in calibers as small as 2.34 mm rim fire and as large as .600 Nitro Express.

These programs account for a significant amount of the federal funds for which FEMA is accountable. FEMA officials are responsible and accountable for the proper administration of these funds pursuant to federal laws and regulations, Office of Management and Budget circulars, and federal appropriations law principles.
