Book Synopsis Why Didn't I Think of That? by : Anthony Rubino
Download or read book Why Didn't I Think of That? written by Anthony Rubino and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2010-03-18 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Writer and cartoonist Anthony Rubino, Jr. hilariously shares 101 inventions that bizarrely changed the world. Why Didn't I Think of That? proves not all successful inventions are the greatest thing since sliced bread (not even sliced bread, which is literally just a precut loaf for lazy loafs). This humorous guide to “mind-blowing” inventions deconstructs just how complex these can't-live-without necessities really are, while providing some insightful(ly funny) lessons to future inventors, such as: Yo-yos: Deadly weapons do make great kids' toys. Soccer: Boredom is the stepmother of invention. Bottled water: There is no such thing as a stupid idea. Complete with useful trivia--like the fact that 100 trillion paperclips have been sold--readers will be able to impress their friends by hardly trying.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The plaintiff, Nita Fire and Casualty Company, brought this lawsuit to recover an amount paid to the defendant, Anthony J. The fire marshal determined that the fire was caused by spontaneous combustion. Relying on the report of the fire marshal, the plaintiff paid the defendant's claim in the amount of $300,000.00. After paying the claim, the plaintiff learned from a former employee of the defendant that the fire possibly was caused by arson. After it conducted an independent investigation, the plaintiff decided that the fire was set deliberately. Rubino has denied the allegation of arson.

Never wear metal-based fabric in a thunderstorm. Gyrate responsibly. There's nothing like the look in your little girl's eyes when you present her with her very first monogrammed golf cart. Book Synopsis Gender Trials by : Jennifer L. Pierce
Download or read book Gender Trials written by Jennifer L. Pierce and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 1996-02-15 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This engaging ethnography examines the gendered nature of today's large corporate law firms. Although increasing numbers of women have become lawyers in the past decade, Jennifer Pierce discovers that the double standards and sexist attitudes of legal bureaucracies are a continuing problem for women lawyers and paralegals. Working as a paralegal, Pierce did ethnographic research in two law offices, and her depiction of the legal world is quite unlike the glamorized version seen on television. Pierce tellingly portrays the dilemma that female attorneys face: a woman using tough, aggressive tactics—the ideal combative litigator—is often regarded as brash or even obnoxious by her male colleagues. Yet any lack of toughness would mark her as ineffective. Women paralegals also face a double bind in corporate law firms. While lawyers depend on paralegals for important work, they also expect these women—for most paralegals are women—to nurture them and affirm their superior status in the office hierarchy. Paralegals who mother their bosses experience increasing personal exploitation, while those who do not face criticism and professional sanction. Male paralegals, Pierce finds, do not encounter the same difficulties that female paralegals do. Pierce argues that this gendered division of labor benefits men politically, economically, and personally. However, she finds that women lawyers and paralegals develop creative strategies for resisting and disrupting the male-dominated status quo. Her lively narrative and well-argued analysis will be welcomed by anyone interested in today's gender politics and business culture.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On an animal farm located high in eastern Pennsylvania, next to the dark forest, the farm animals like to pass the time by playing a game of tag, led by the farmer's two Shih Tzu dogs, Omni and Baby. A six-foot fence surrounds the farm, which the farmer put up to protect his animals from the bigger and meaner animals who live in the dark forest. The farmer calls them bullies because they all pick on the farm animals. One day, the farmer is working in the lower fields, and the farm animals are playing the game, when suddenly, a big hungry coyote leaps up onto the six-foot fence. He looks at all the farm animals who are frozen with fear. Omni and Baby know that they have to band the animals together and have enough faith to send the worst bully back to the dark forest with the help of an unsuspecting friend.
