This book was released on 2016-04-29 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the dawn of the third millennium, we are confronted with a disturbing phenomenon: although global life expectancy still increases, this is not the case for healthy life expectancy! The explanation of this seemingly contradiction is mainly due to the rising prevalence of the new pandemia of chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Even in low and middle income countries, the improvement in healthcare status and life expectancy is paralled by the increase of NCDs, as in all countries worldwide. Since the United Nations General Assembly held in New York in 2011, many publications have emphasized the close link between NCDs and nutrition. The NCDs epidemic forces us to reconsider the public health perspectives. Many governments, non-governmental organizations and other institutions are actively involved in educational nutrition programs and campaigns; however their efforts seldom obtain the results hoped for. It is extremely difficult to induce changes in lifestyle and behavior that have built up over a long period of time. However, it becomes urgent to adapt to our changing life-environment where traditional wisdom and intuitive choices are giving way to individual thinking and search for (often uncontrolled) information. This engenders a number of unprecedented challenges and it calls for a re-appraisal of the existing paradigms to achieve an adequate management of the upstream determinants of health instead of a (pre)dominant medical and hospital-centric approach. In the era of personalized healthcare, it is time to empower policy makers, professionals and citizens for achieving an evidence-based change in the health-disease interface and decision-making process for public health interventions. The scientific and professional society Health Technology Assessment International (HTAi) has recognized nutrition as a health technology (preventative) by creating a Interest Group (IG) dedicated to research on methodologies and assessments of nutrition-related public health, while taking into account contextual factors (ethical, legal, social, organizational, economic, …) in order to generate meaningful outcomes for establishing evidence-based health policies. This Research Topic aims to elaborate on some of the potential hurdles or guarantees which have to be overcome for the sake of sustainable healthcare provisions anywhere in the world, such as shortcomings in methodological approaches, regulatory frameworks, gaps between evidence, its hierarchy and final recommendations for public health management.

This book was released on 2008-02-19 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides much-needed guidance in making sound business decisions for the business leader or decision maker, especially investment appraisal practitioners such as strategic planners, business analysts, financial partners, and supply chain experts. By “supply chain”, the authors mean the network of retailers, distributors, transporters, storage facilities and suppliers that participate in the sale, delivery and production of a particular product. The book begins with an introduction to the concept of decision making under uncertainty and the forces driving the business. A gap in the current knowledge is then discovered as it arises from an analysis of the profitability indicators that are currently being used. With hands-on experience in decision making within the supply chain environment, and coupled with leading-edge mathematical and business formulations, the authors propose how to enrich quantitative and qualitative decision-making measures. This further leads to a decision-making framework and process, supported by a ready-to-use tool (PADOVA).

Embark on a journey of self-discovery and purpose, shaping your future with a single word. “One” isn’t just a book; it’s a one-day quest to give you focus for your year ahead. Inside, you’ll explore: -- Energetic Decision Making: Tap into your mind, heart, and gut to navigate the year’s challenges. -- Future-Present Dialogue: Learn to consult your future self for today’s decisions. -- Unveiling Your Word: Recognize the word that’s already part of you, waiting to be discovered. Sure, jotting your word on a napkin is one thing, but imagine if you could: -- Elevate your word into a north star -- Create a treasure map for the year -- Literally grasp your future We’ll distill your annual strategy into a singular, powerful word and then—brace yourself—we’ll encapsulate that in a book. This transcends any napkin’s promise. Indeed, you’ll author a “book” with one pivotal chapter: your guiding word. But there’s more. Beyond the chapter, we’ll also craft: -- Cover: Design your book’s face in minutes. -- Title: Unearth the title that encapsulates your word. -- Subtitle: A phrase that further defines your journey. -- Epigraph: Choose a quote that sets your year’s tone. -- Dedication: Decide who your book honors. -- Foreword: Why getting someone else to write this is a good idea (optional). -- Chapter Won: Not just a chapter, but a declaration of your intent to thrive (it’s really only ONE word!). -- Epilogue: The secret ingredient of this endeavor. -- Acknowledgments: Preemptively thank those who’ll support your journey. -- About the Author: Define the future you. -- Also by the Author: List the achievements you’ll pursue in the year. -- Book Description: “Sell” your book … to yourself! (optional) Yes, we’re crafting a full book, distinguished by its singular, yet expansive, chapter. You already possess your word for the year; our journey together will clear the path to its discovery. Is this the year you define yourself anew? It starts with one word, enabling you to declare, “I won.” Ready to empower your guiding word and transform it into a treasure that propels you towards your aspirations? “One” awaits your discovery.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Answer Machine is a practical, non-technical guide to the technologies behind information seeking and analysis. It introduces search and content analytics to software buyers, knowledge managers, and searchers who want to understand and design effective online environments. The book describes how search evolved from an expert-only to an end user tool. It provides an overview of search engines, categorization and clustering, natural language processing, content analytics, and visualization technologies. Detailed profiles for Web search, eCommerce search, eDiscovery, and enterprise search contrast the types of users, uses, tasks, technologies, and interaction designs for each. These variables shape each application, although the underlying technologies are the same. Types of information tasks and the trade-offs between precision and recall, time, volume and precision, and privacy vs. personalization are discussed within this context. The book examines trends toward convenient, context-aware computing, big data and analytics technologies, conversational systems, and answer machines. The Answer Machine explores IBM Watson's DeepQA technology and describes how it is used to answer health care and Jeopardy questions. The book concludes by discussing the implications of these advances: how they will change the way we run our businesses, practice medicine, govern, or conduct our lives in the digital age. Table of Contents: Introduction / The Query Process and Barriers to Finding Information Online / Online Search: An Evolution / Search and Discovery Technologies: An Overview / Information Access: A Spectrum of Needs and Uses / Future Tense: The Next Era in Information Access and Discovery / Answer Machines
