Book excerpt: “I just feel better now Sox is here. Before, I felt like I wanted to die. I couldn't even go to parties. Then Sox came along. It feels like our hearts are connected – I love him so much.” Toby When Toby Turner was excluded from school for the third time for hitting and kicking his teachers, his family hit rock bottom. Toby, who has autism, felt so upset by his own aggression, he told his parents they would be better off without him. Terrified, Toby’s mum gave up her job as a nursery nurse to teach him at home while they found a place for him in a special school. Eventually, the only way the family could get Toby out of the house was by giving him headphones, sunglasses and a cap to block out the world. After a difficult few years, the family was thrown a lifeline by the charity Dogs for Good, which introduced Toby to Sox. The adorable three-year-old Labrador Golden Retriever was trained by the charity to help children with autism. Within two weeks, he had turned Toby’s life around. Together, as a family unit, and with Sox by their side, the Turners have learned to enjoy life again.

Immersing children in the days when dragons lived peacefully with man, they learn how lions and unicorns fought their last great battle on the grassy hills leaving the legacy of the unicorn clearly visible for future generations to see and visit, and why dragons and unicorns now have to live in a secret world. The Rowan Tree gathers pace as a new super hero is introduced; the self-named ‘Monty Action Mouse’, a lovable character that epitomises Paula’s exceptional talent for characterisation. With the heroes facing new challenges in every chapter as they fight to save their friends, children will not want to put the book down. They come to learn that the events of the past can have drastic effects on the future, a future told in The White Dragon, the upcoming third novel in the series.

Book excerpt: When their five-year-old son fought for his life, business leaders Erica and Mike Schultz learned a new way to live, work, and succeed—discovering how to achieve extreme productivity with heart and purpose. Ari Schultz was an extraordinary baby, beginning life in a pitched battle against heart disease. The same year, his parents launched their business, and they had to keep it going strong, even while living full-time at the hospital for months on end. For the next five years, Erica and Mike Schultz learned how to balance the demands of their jobs, commuting to the hospital, and spending time with their growing family—along the way, noting the tricks and techniques that allowed them to get work done, even while living in the cardiac ICU and later through heartbreaking loss. After reflection and recovery, Mike and Erica codified their method of coping and working, and set out to study the work habits of extremely productive people. They discovered what extremely productive people do differently than everyone else, and went on to create The Productivity Code—a new approach to productivity that has helped tens of thousands of people manage their time for greatest effectiveness, fulfillment, and happiness. Now, Erica and Mike reveal the 9 Habits of Extreme Productivity along with easy-to-apply techniques, including: • How to stay focused—and positive—even in difficult times • Clearly defining your motivations through written goals and four-three-four planning • Helpful hacks to stop procrastinating • How to disrupt unproductive thought cycles and break bad habits for good • Changing your mindset to prioritize time doing things you love • Setting boundaries and saying no to tasks that don't serve you • Tricks to become impossible to distract • Working in powerful planned "sprints" to get in the zone • Finding ways to refuel your mental and physical energy • Resetting and correcting when you've gone off course Interweaving their son's poignant story with effective productivity and happiness strategies, Not Today shows how anyone can better manage their time—while living a more energetic and meaningful life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For a genre that imagines possible futures as a means of critiquing the present, utopian/dystopian fiction has been surprisingly obsessed with how the past is remembered. Memory and Utopian Agency in Utopian/Dystopian Literature: Memory of the Future examines modern and contemporary utopian/dystopian literature’s preoccupation with memory, asserting that from the nineteenth century onward, memory and forgetting feature as key problematics in the genre as well as sources of the utopian impulse. Through a series of close readings of utopian/dystopian novels informed by theory and dialectics, Hanson provides a case study history of how and why memory emerged as a problem for utopia, and how recent dystopian texts situate memory as a crucial mode of utopian agency. Hanson demonstrates that many modern and contemporary writers of the genre consider the presence of certain forms of memory as necessary to the project of imagining better societies or to avoiding possible dystopian outcomes.
