Book excerpt: "On page 27 Jay states, 'The more prosperous people become the fewer close and intimate relationships they will have.' He is not the author that backs up everything with journal articles and research so it is a statement in a vacuum but it is very true. The other chapters are very good and poignant to the struggle wealthy Christians face. Chapter one is an overview, 'Should I build bigger barns?' The parable in Luke 12 is unpacked very well. You'd think he was a preacher. Chapter 3 talks about trust and he hints that in his estate planning issues he gives away more to charities than IRS or even children. But I echo that idea as well. Kids who inherit money often blow it. But in chapter 4 or dilemma 4 he talks about more detail in handling this transition. So it appears that the sample on page 39 is not what he recommends to everyone. Chapter four quotes Warren Buffet, 'I want to give my children enough of an inheritance that they feel like they can do anything, but not so much of an inheritance that they may choose to do nothing.' I love that quote! And that type of thought really seems to resonate well with Mr. Link also. The last collection of dilemmas 7, 8, 9 and 10 are about giving. Jay's thoughts here are right in line with National Christian Foundation ... The Gathering and Generous Giving Organizations"--Amazon.com.

Book excerpt: The novel delves deep into African American historical roots in the Southern United States and correlates that experience with Nigeria’s own distinctive tribal connectedness. In the story, the Ames family experienced racial injustice, tension, tragedy, and embarrassment. They struggled with economic freedom, infidelity, and love. But in the end, that family continued to grow and prosper. When granddaughter Sonora Francine Ames Zaid appeared in the story, she is thrust between maintaining and developing Native American and African American traditions and heritage, which she adopted from her mother and grandmother to reinforcing, protecting, and re-establishing the sanctity of her Yoruba and Hausa tribal connections. Before long, Sonora learns that her different ethnic and cultural differences are bonded through one important and special connection—spiritual guidance by God. Through the biblical teachings, reminders, and reinforcements from Sonora’s African American / Native American grandmother Jasmine and her Nigerian grandmother Damilala, she learns to keep the promises laid by her murdered mother and father to acquire an education, to take social judicial responsibility for the improvement and enhancement of human life, and to use money as a benefit to all according to biblical practice, not selfish gain or greed.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 2016 Winner of the Gospel Coalition Book Awards At the time of his death, Christopher Hitchens was the most notorious atheist in the world. And yet, all was not as it seemed. “Nobody is not a divided self, of course,” he once told an interviewer, “but I think it’s rather strong in my case.” Hitchens was a man of many contradictions: a Marxist in youth who longed for acceptance among the social elites; a peacenik who revered the military; a champion of the Left who was nonetheless pro-life, pro-war-on-terror, and after 9/11 something of a neocon; and while he railed against God on stage, he maintained meaningful—though largely hidden from public view—friendships with evangelical Christians like Francis Collins, Douglas Wilson, and the author Larry Alex Taunton. In The Faith of Christopher Hitchens, Taunton offers a very personal perspective of one of our most interesting and most misunderstood public figures. Writing with genuine compassion and without compromise, Taunton traces Hitchens’s spiritual and intellectual development from his decision as a teenager to reject belief in God to his rise to prominence as one of the so-called “Four Horsemen” of the New Atheism. While Hitchens was, in the minds of many Christians, Public Enemy Number One, away from the lights and the cameras a warm friendship flourished between Hitchens and the author; a friendship that culminated in not one, but two lengthy road trips where, after Hitchens’s diagnosis of esophageal cancer, they studied the Bible together. The Faith of Christopher Hitchens gives us a candid glimpse into the inner life of this intriguing, sometimes maddening, and unexpectedly vulnerable man. “If everyone in the United States had the same qualities of loyalty and care and concern for others that Larry Taunton had, we'd be living in a much better society than we do.” ~ Christopher Hitchens

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to highlight Jesus' true message of salvation, peace and fraternity towards one another in respects to God's will. Scriptures of the Holy Bible are cited in this respect, particularly the New Testament written by Apostles of Jesus Christ. The focal point of his message is the treatment of the sick and needy by the wealthy and privileged. Those blessed by wealth, special talents and skills are required to use them wisely to mitigate the pain and suffering of the least advantaged. Yet narcissism, hedonism, extreme consumption, ethnocentrism and hubris have replaced devotion to God and his only son, Jesus Christ. The faith of the Father and Son is now being used to justify the Gospel of Wealth and hegemony over the least advantaged that have been stigmatized, casted and scorned. The true Christian values are acknowledged. The leader of the Universal Church of Christ, Pope Francis, espouses these values. In his Apostolic Exhortations, he claims that the poverty of hunger and exposure to the elements created by political economies devoted to greed, competition and survival of the fittest are killing people. Much of the world's population, particularly people of color, is marginalized without work, hope and the means to escape dire poverty. The established church and western society is mired in a devotion to secular materialism and Eurocentric hegemony. They rationalized that their esteem status in these "throw away" societies result from Christian blessing. This book argues that this nation is contrary to traditional Christian values that founded the very church they claim to represent. This sanctioned notion, a norm in these exclusionary societies, is based on ruthless idolatry of money and what it could buy. The ensuing Gospel of Wealth espouses, "To the Victor goes the Spoils." The plutocrats and their surrogates foster governments and austerity programs that rob the poor and working class to enhance their own wealth. The poor, needy and sick are treated like commodities that once they are used for maximum gains they are summarily discarded. The book delves into corporate-led commercialism that has pushed religious traditions and customs to the "back of the bus." Activism and protest by Reverend Talen is highlighted in this respect. He focused on the over commercialization of the Christmas holiday at the expense of Christian values. The most heralded Christian holidays that include Easter have become secularized to booster sales, consumption and profits for the plutocrats and their surrogates. This idolatry of greed is clearly a misuse of biblical teachings. The Pope following Christ's message advocates mercy toward the poor and needy, inclusiveness, tolerance, healing and forgiveness. The book reveals that the roots of Christianity have been distorted to reinforce ethnocentrism, Western hegemony and neocolonialism. Africa rather than Europe is where Christianity developed. African people that are among the least advantaged and most scorned in the American society rooted the faith. The original people of the Bible, its authors, Apostles and Prophets reflected the ethnicity and culture of Africans now found in Sub-Sahara Africa and in America. Artifacts found in early Christian churches throughout Europe into Russia provide ample evidence of the people that founded Christianity. Ironically, their descendants are among the meekest and most scorned in Western society as they were in Roman occupied Israel in Northwest Africa.
