Book excerpt: "Mr. Tiger" Al Kaline was the most distinguished Detroit Tiger of them all, combining on-field excellence, acclaim and awards with off-field class, humility and generosity. Kaline made such an impact that his passing at 85 on April 6, 2020, saddened not just Tigers fans throughout the region but baseball fans everywhere, who watched with admiration and respect during Kaline's storybook 22-year Hall of Fame career. Mr. Tiger: The Legend of Al Kaline, Detroit's Own is a celebration of Kaline's distinguished and incomparable run as a Tiger, from his fresh-faced major-league debut at 18 years old and his historic American League batting title at only 20, to his memorable 3,000th hit in the stretch run of the final season of his epic career. Through memorable stories and striking photography from the Detroit Free Press, this commemorative book is the definitive account of Kaline's 18 All-Star selections, 10 Gold Gloves and, most memorably, his huge contribution to the Tigers' unforgettable 1968 World Series championship. Book Synopsis Triumph 650cc and 750cc Twins by : Matthew Vale
Download or read book Triumph 650cc and 750cc Twins written by Matthew Vale and published by Crowood Press UK. This book was released on 2009-11-15 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The unit-construction 650cc Triumph 'B' series twins were the top-of-the-range models in Triumph's range from their introduction in 1963 through to the introduction of the 750cc Trident in 1968. The model range outlived the Trident, grew to 750cc in 1973 and eventually went out of production in the late 1980s. This book gives a detailed technical analysis of the bikes, and charts the development of the range from its introduction through to its heyday in the late 1960s. It looks at the development of the range, and covers the various models produced including a restoration of probably the best model produced - a 1970 T120R Bonneville.
Download or read book Chasing Tiger written by Glenn Stout and published by Da Capo Press. This book was released on 2002-04-04 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From his appearance on the Mike Douglas Show at age three (he putted for Bob Hope and Jimmy Stewart) to his winning the U.S Junior Amateur title at fifteen (he was the youngest champion ever) to his recent victories in four Grand Slam events in a row (though not in the same year), Tiger Woods has pursued with single-minded determination his dream of becoming the greatest golfer in history. But who is the real Tiger Woods? From his Nike commercials to his conflicting statements on race, Tiger has stirred up plenty of controversy off the golf course. And now in Chasing Tiger—an up-to-date collection of profiles, commentary, and reporting on Tiger's career by both U.S. and British writers from the late 1980s to now –we chart the trajectory of "the chosen one" from young prodigy to the most popular athlete in the world. With stellar profiles by esteemed sports writers such as Gary Smith and Charles Pierce, reportage by Pulitzer Prize–winning sportswriters Tom Boswell and the late Jim Murray, and pithy commentary by Ellen Goodman, Maureen Dowd, and Frank Deford, Chasing Tiger is a multi-dimensional portrait of the making of a legend.

Download or read book The Stolen Dream written by John Devaney and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2019-07-04 with total page 630 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book examines a period when football underwent a seismic and ineradicable change brought about by the determination of the Victorian Football League to wrest control of the game's development and destiny from the various state controlling bodies and the Australian Football Council. Whereas the VFL had initially been the first among equals, it gradually assumed the role of the sole and undisputed guardian of the code. The AFC, once football's ostensible national controlling body, became an irrelevance. Instead of a national sport with a national remit we ended up with an expanded VFL with a majority of Victorian member clubs supplemented by a token sprinkling of teams from interstate. Such teams were in most cases created from scratch and could in no way be said to derive directly from the states' unique and distinctive football traditions and culture. For some, it was a brave new world, but evolution does not inevitably entail improvement.
