Book Synopsis The Epistle to the Hebrews and Christian Theology by : Richard Bauckham

This book was released on 2009-06-25 with total page 475 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second annual St. Andrews Conference on Scripture and Theology brought leading biblical scholars and systematic theologians together in conversation, seeking to bridge the growing gap between these disciplines. Reflecting the convergence of the Old Testament s cultic theology, Hellenistic ideas, and early Christian thinking, the epistle to the Hebrews provides a perfect foundation for this fruitful dialogue. / The contributors examine a number of key theological themes in the letter to the Hebrews: the person and nature of the Son, his high-priestly work, cosmology, the epistle s theology of Scripture, supersessionism, the call to faith, and more. Unlike many modern treatments, this substantial volume considers Hebrews in both its ancient context and against our modern backdrop. / Edward Adams, Loveday Alexander, Harold W. Book Synopsis The Storm-God and the Sea by : Noga Ayali-Darshan
Download or read book The Storm-God and the Sea written by Noga Ayali-Darshan and published by Mohr Siebeck. This book was released on 2020-05-12 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The tale of the combat between the Storm-god and the Sea that began circulating in the early second millennium BCE was one of the most well-known ancient Near Eastern myths. Its widespread dissemination in distinct versions across disparate locations and time periods - Syria, Egypt, Anatolia, Ugarit, Mesopotamia, and Israel - calls for analysis of all the textual variants in order to determine its earliest form, geo-cultural origin, and transmission history. In undertaking this task, Noga Ayali-Darshan examines works such as the Astarte Papyrus, the Pisaisa Myth, the Songs of Hedammu and Ullikummi, the Baal Cycle, Enuma elis, and pertinent biblical texts. She interprets these and other related writings philologically according to their provenance and comparatively in the light of parallel texts. The examination of this story appearing in all the ancient Near Eastern cultures also calls for a discussion of the theology, literature, and history of these societies and the way they shaped the local versions of the myth.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: WHO SAYS SECULAR PEOPLE CANT BE SPIRITUAL? What do cities mean to you? Excitement? Dreams and goals? Glamor? Escape? Danger? Romance? Artistically planned parks, zoos and museums? Shopping? Ohmygod skyscrapers and bridges? Gershwins Rhapsody in Blue? Architecture, especially, makes the city the temple of Rational Man. Frederick Cookinham is a New York City tour guide, specializing in New Yorks colonial and Revolutionary history and in AYN RANDS NEW YORK. In THE AGE OF RAND Cookinham taught you to see the landscape through history glasses. Now learn to see cities through temple glasses. See the spiritual in the secular! Be uplifted by the sight of Mans achievements. Make the city your temple to Mans mind, and dont be afraid to get all Ayn Rand about it. Appreciate better the deeper meanings behind the concrete (and steel!) facts of where you live. Book Synopsis What's Right with the Church by : Elmer L. Towns
Download or read book What's Right with the Church written by Elmer L. Towns and published by Gospel Light Publications. This book was released on 2009-09-15 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The early believers of Jesus Christ knew that they were not just members of an organization, nor were they just an extension of Old Testament Judaism. They knew that they were followers of the living Lord Jesus Christ. They were members of a thing called the church. Through the centuries, the church has been the most powerful transforming force in history. Yet in America many observe it as anemic and powerless. Author Elmer Towns contends that there is good news; there are many things that are still right with the church. What Is Right With the Church affirms the positive things that are present in the church today, and what will carry it forward as a transforming force. This book is not a defense of the traditional church, nor does it run to embrace all new forms of worship. Rather this book examines the biblical nature of church allowing the best to come forth. It is not a book about old churches, new churches or home churches. It is a book about what is right about every true church, no matter the expression, history or culture. A growing number of people are not aware of the enduring strengths of the church. The author contends that if believers in Christ are to effectively move forward with healthy communities and a vibrant faith in this new century, they must be established on foundational, biblical truths and core values. And when this happens, the church thrives as a transforming force.

Here we find Tantra as a door to freedom: freedom from all mind-constructs, mind games; freedom from all structures and freedom from the other. Download or read book God's Gift written by Dorothy B. Cole and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2008-11 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the author read through the oft-repeated, handwritten pages of Ione Davidson, wife of the first Pastor of South Shores Church, handed to her by the church organist, Doris Swanson, she wondered, "Was this church really God's Gift to those who attended or visited?" This, as a reader, you will have to decide for yourself. With the Cole's family involvement in founding and two sons becoming pastors of the church, the author believed it was a worthy project. Her writing began at Los Angeles High School where she composed programs for a literary club and an article winning first place prize for the school annual. At First Baptist in Pomona, she wrote articles for the "Communicator Prayer Corner" and high school lessons for a Sunday school class she was teaching. With her husband, Dr. Edward B. Cole, who served as the senior pastor five churches, they ministered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, San Diego, Pomona (First Baptist Pomona, largest American Baptist Church), Lake Arrowhead (as pastor and "Resident President" of the Campus Crusade's International School of Theology), then South Shores Baptist Church in Monarch Beach, California. During five years there a new parking lot and sanctuary were built. After retiring he was named "Pastor Emeritus." Her employment began at aircraft companies during the Second World War, Douglas Aircraft and Lockheed Aircraft and Budd Manufacturing in Philadelphia. Besides working in Graphic Arts at the California Baptist Seminary, her last position was legal secretary for William Bergman, the City Attorney of Claremont, CA. After supporting her husband through college, seminary and doctrinal classes, she returned to college after her four children were older and in school. The author believes some of God's greatest gifts have been, not only this special church, but her four children, ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. God's gifts for those who love Him in return seem never-ending!
