Book excerpt: A witty philosophical murder mystery with a charming twist: the crack detectives are sheep determined to discover who killed their beloved shepherd. On a hillside near the cozy Irish village of Glennkill, a flock of sheep gathers around their shepherd, George, whose body lies pinned to the ground with a spade. George has cared devotedly for the flock, even reading them books every night. Led by Miss Maple, the smartest sheep in Glennkill (and possibly the world), they set out to find George’s killer. The A-team of investigators includes Othello, the “bad-boy” black ram; Mopple the Whale, a Merino who eats a lot and remembers everything; and Zora, a pensive black-faced ewe with a weakness for abysses. Joined by other members of the richly talented flock, they engage in nightlong discussions about the crime, wild metaphysical speculations, and embark on reconnaissance missions into the village, where they encounter some likely suspects. Along the way, the sheep confront their own all-too-human struggles with guilt, misdeeds, and unrequited love. Funny, fresh, and endearing, it introduces a wonderful new breed of detectives to Canadian readers.

Book excerpt: [This novel] focuses on the sack of Inveraray by Montrose and his victory at the Battle of Inverlochy, 1645. The protagonist of the title is loyal to his clan chief whose actions and demands are those of a coward. Munro’s depiction of the clans is often satirical, commenting that that it is proof of manhood to butcher and slaughter the innocent. Splendid eventually realises that his loyalty is misplaced, and he abandons his Chief to become a mercenary soldier. --www.bbc.co.uk.

Book Synopsis Obstacles, Miracles & Love by : Inge Fernbach Rabe
Download or read book Obstacles, Miracles & Love written by Inge Fernbach Rabe and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2005-07-13 with total page 493 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inge Fernbach Rabe was born in Germany in 1924, nine years before Adolf Hitler’s rise to power. Her early childhood years were marked with love, laughter, and happiness. Early in 1933, her innocent and carefree world began to crumble. It began slowly, with name-calling. At first she didn’t know the meaning of the word “Jew.” Although her grandfather had been Jewish, Inge had been raised in a Christian family. Under the German laws of the time, she was considered half-Jewish, and therefore “racially impure.” Her family bore the full brunt of Nazi economic sanctions when her Papa’s business was ruined. Soon she was experiencing the pain of rejection when many of her friends were no longer allowed to play with her and the disappointment of being deprived of educational opportunities. Inge and her family endured difficulties that had previously been unthinkable. She was sustained through tragic circumstances by her loving mother and a deep faith in God as her Heavenly Father. She rejoiced when Allied forces finally liberated the people of Germany, and looked forward to building a new life. After struggling for ten years in post-war Germany, she decided to immigrate to the United States. Her new adventure began on April 4, 1955. As an immigrant she had to master a new language, learn new customs, earn a living, and catch up on her education! Although she often found herself in difficult circumstances, the kindness of the American people kept her going. Years later, happily married and with a son and daughter, she looked back on her struggles and thanked God for seeing her through to better times. Happiness doesn’t last forever, though. Her husband passed away unexpectedly, leaving her to care for two young children. Once again she would have to rely on faith and determination to survive. And once again she would discover that God’s blessings do arrive in the midst of hardship! Inge is retired now, and fills her days with gardening and writing.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The twenty-fifth anniversary edition of the #1 New York Times bestselling classic, now with a note by author Thomas Harris revealing his inspiration for Hannibal Lecter. An ingenious, masterfully written novel, The Silence of the Lambs is a classic of suspense and storytelling and the basis for the Oscar award-winning horror film starring Jodie Foster as Clarice Starling and Anthony Hopkins as Dr. Hannibal Lecter. A serial murderer known only by a grotesquely apt nickname—Buffalo Bill—is stalking particular women. He has a purpose, but no one can fathom it, for the bodies are discovered in different states. Clarice Starling, a young trainee at the F.B.I. Academy, is surprised to be summoned by Jack Crawford, Chief of the Bureau's Behavioral Science section. Her assignment: to interview Dr. Hannibal Lecter, a brilliant psychiatrist and grisly killer now kept under close watch in the Baltimore State Hospital for the Criminally Insane. Lecter's insight into the minds of murderers could help track and capture Buffalo Bill. Smart and attractive, Starling is shaken to find herself in a strange, intense relationship with the acutely perceptive Lecter. His cryptic clues—about Buffalo Bill and about her—launch Clarice on a search that every reader will find startling, harrowing, and totally compelling.
