Book excerpt: Jim Cue's first published book of short stories include science fiction and fantasy where everything is just a little "off" the worlds we know. "Braxton's Pride" and "Blame Not These Accursed Stars" tell two alternate stories of the short career of Jack the Ripper. In "A Baker's Dozen," college engineering whiz Chris Christopherson, in a case of mistaken identity, is kidnapped by the most attractive woman he's ever met; Allison Li Chen, the Commander of European Commonwealth Security (Space Division); on a collision course into uncharted Ja'an territory. "No King Cole" is an unexpected love story that pairs the irony of "The Gift of the Maji" with the deception and violence of "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" in a world of shadowy cyber-doubles. In "There's Been a Change in Me," a whistleblower and his former secretary-turned-fugitive conspire to take on the Interstellar Corporation before it can make them, and their secrets, disappear. You'll find these stories, and more, in this page-turning debut.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Imagine for a moment that your consciousness could leave your brain. What could you learn and discover? What could you accomplish if your mind could travel wherever you focused it, to understand anything you desire, directly, from the inside out? How would your relationships improve? What would the world look like if we could all understand one another on such an intimate level? What if you were told that that your consciousness not only can leave your brain, but that it already does, and that we are all immersed in a telepathic experience of the world, though few of us realize it? In Consciousness Becomes You, the authors share personal stories, grounded conversation, and scientific research to explain that part of our minds, the connected mind, is connected to everyone and everything. Beginning with how we already experience this connection in life, the book explores how this connection functions, its uses, and the myriad of ways we all already receive and share telepathic information.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inspired by his time spent with wise sages in Asia in the 1930s, Paul Brunton (1898-1981) wrote The Hidden Teaching Beyond Yoga (and its companion volume The Wisdom of the Overself) at the request of these remarkable teachers, who recognized that he had a significant role to play in the transmission of Hindu Vedanta and Buddhism to the West. Brunton's books are a profound re-creation of the teachings of those two philosophical schools of thought, informed by the insights of deep meditation. Clearly written without the specialized vocabulary found in those traditions, the books speak directly to the contemporary spiritual seeker. The Hidden Teaching Beyond Yoga is a step-by-step guide to actually experiencing the spiritual truth that reality is formed within our consciousness rather than outside us in the world of material things. Brunton's expert analysis of perception, grounded in science, is designed to awaken us to our sacred foundation and to transform our personality into a mirror of that reality. Brunton prepares us for this journey by describing the attitudes, mental disciplines, and character traits that are beneficial for success in this quest. This new edition has been updated to incorporate the author's final revisions and includes an introduction by the Paul Brunton Philosophic Foundation. Book excerpt: Who was Cain and what does he represent? The first part of this book invites us to revise the traditional, biblical, view of Cain as his brother’s murderer. Rudolf Steiner shows how the original Cain was ready to sacrifice his being to something higher, but this pure impulse was perverted into the desire to murder. Our earthly knowledge has an affinity with the fallen Cain, but there is also a path by which we can ascend to the condition of Cain before his fratricide – through the stages of higher knowledge. Only the descendants of Cain, coming to full and real ‘I’ development, can sustain themselves in the face of earthly forces. In the context of this primeval Cain, or the ‘new’ Cain, the ritual ceremonies enacted by Steiner between 1905 and 1914 acquire their true meaning: as a way to incorporate previously developed spirit knowledge into the human soul and into physical reality. Here the practical occultist increasingly identifies with Hiram, the central figure of the Temple Legend, in order to realize the new Cain within him. Meyer demonstrates the direct line from Rudolf Steiner’s early ‘rites of knowledge’ to the Class lessons of 1924, which Steiner had intended to reinvest with a ritual element. Besides reflections by Rudolf Steiner and editor Thomas Meyer’s commentary, this volume includes important thoughts by Marie Steiner, W.J. Stein, Ludwig Polzer-Hoditz and Rudolf Geering-Christ. The final chapter is a lecture by D.N. Dunlop – perhaps Steiner’s most important pupil in the West – that reveals the universally human core of the rituals we encounter both in traditional freemasonry and in Steiner’s own rites.
