Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As one who knows the struggles with prayer and even teaches others how to pray, Thoughtful Prayers gives more insight into how to pray than most other methods or how-to books. As much as you can teach others how to pray, they will never know how to pray until they experience praying for themselves. But, reading someone elses prayers are even a greater tool than you know. By reading each of Harold Bussells prayers, you gain insight into a mans daily struggles with God about life, the church and with his own spiritual life. Harold opens up courageously as he pours out his heart and soul to God. This kind of courage gives the reader encouragement that its alright to pray to a sovereign God and ask for guidance for the struggles we face daily. In taking us through The Lords Prayer and breaking it down into 6 weeks of personal prayers, you can see that one mans prayers are struggles we can all relate to. We can adopt these prayers and over time transform them to fit our prayer life. We can be courageous, yet reverent to our Holy God, bold, and yet humble to a loving, gracious God that cares for us. What is interesting to me personally is how these prayers become deeper and deeper as the weeks progress. By day 31 I am humbled by how much I am missing in my prayer life, maybe thinking too much of myself or not bearing my soul as much as Harold Bussell has in his prayers. It really creates in me a wanting to do better even in my prayer life. Not to emulate Harolds but just noticing where I might fall short in not being humble or reverent enough in my prayers. Harolds prayers are truly a guide to help you reflect on where you are in your own personal prayer life with God. And then maybe adopt some of his prayers to move you to a closer friendship with Jesus. Steve Wiersum

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Almost everyone has an opinion about what prayer is and how it ought to work. But for many, prayer produces far less than the saints say it should. While some surveys suggest that up to 90 percent of us believe in prayer enough to do it daily, that lofty statistic is tempered by the sobering claim that average believers only pray for eight to twelve minutes a week. If that's not a red warning flag that prayer has a serious public relations problem, what is? Praying When Prayer Doesn’t Work is a thoughtful— often witty—account of the author's journey to find prayer’s elusive promise for himself. A pastor for thirty years, Jack uses humor, plenty of secondary resources, scripture, real-life stories, and his own unique insights to illustrate how both routine and exceptional circumstances may be used to trigger meaningful, ongoing, and productive prayer. While challenging harmful assumptions (dogma) with unconventional observations, Getz also looks at prayer's four public relations problems, identifies the perfect environment for prayer, and examines the three critical attitudes necessary to pray with great effect. Also, the wisdom and helpful suggestions found in the useful study guide can teach sincere seeker's of the truth how to get personal with God and make praying a choice, not a chore.

If God is sovereign and in control, why should I bother praying? Can my will override His will? Public interest in spiritual things is at an all-time high, and one of the most often discussed topics is prayer. Yet there are vexing questions related to our communication with God, and much misinformation is circulated about prayer—even among Christians. Many struggle with hard questions. In fact, there seem to be as many negative attitudes and questions about prayer as there are positive things said about it. 10 Questions About Prayer Every Christian Must Answer does what other books do not: explore the link between Christian apologetics and prayer. Elmer Towns and Alex McFarland— each with extensive pastoral and academic experience—respond to common objections and questions about prayer, offering biblically informed, well-reasoned answers. This resource will encourage Christian readers in their faith and provide them with help when encountering Christianity’s critics. To those who are skeptical about prayer, it offers respectful and carefully reasoned rebuttals to their assumptions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More than a decade ago, Jerry Sittser prayed for the protection of his family, yet three of his loved ones--his daughter, his wife, and his mother--died in an automobile accident. What went wrong? "Why wasn't my prayer answered?" he asks. "It is no longer an abstract question to me. What should we do and how should we respond when our prayers--prayers that seem right and true and good--go unanswered?" In When God Doesn't Answer Your Prayer, Sittser continues exploring the issues he addressed in A Grace Disguised. He asks, "Why doesn't God answer our prayers? What, if anything, can we do about it?" Sittser is intensely committed to exploring the Christian faith, especially when it doesn't seem to "work." In this thoughtful and beautifully written book, he moves beyond easy answers and religious formulas to explore the goodness and greatness of a God who cannot be controlled but can be trusted. When God Doesn't Answer Your Prayer takes an honest and probing look at the problem of unanswered prayer. In doing so, it draws us ever deeper into a relationship with the God who is the end of all our prayers, the object of our faith, the one who fulfills our deepest longings.

Through experiential encounters with our loving God, we gain intimate knowledge of how much he really cares about every detail of our lives. As we seek to know him in a more personal and meaningful way, we discover that he is beside us in every situation, which changes us forever. As humans, we tend to learn more from our failures than from our successes. God uses our failures as well as our successes to help us grow spiritually. We grow and develop spiritually in the same way we grow and develop physicallyboth are processes that occur over time. This is the story of one persons gradual experiential realization that what God says in his Word is true, that it is applicable to our current situations, and that he is intimately involved in every aspect of our lives.

Getting the answers from God that we want so much? While God certainly cares for your deepest needs, Skye Jethani wants you to know that prayer is so much more than a two-way transaction with a heavenly vending machine. Jesus didn’t pray like that. And with a pastor’s heart, Skye wants to take you deeper into what Jesus, the lover of your soul, had to say about talking with God. In What If Jesus Was Serious About Prayer?, you’ll benefit not only from Skye’s words of wisdom but his doodles that help the visual learner connect with spiritual truth. Prayer isn’t about getting answers, but getting God. We need more prayer in our lives—not because God can give us what we crave, but because He offers himself to us in love.

When you discover the beauty of daily conversation with Him, you'll experience the presence of God in a new way that will transform your life! You will be able to watch Him answer your prayers! Prayer changes everything! RELENTLESS Believers of Prayer must PRAY! As we take this 90-day Relentless Journey as a Believer of Prayer, get ready to finish what you have started and become F.I.T (Focus + IMPACT= Transformation) by God's Design. Relentless Prayer, Relentless Faith, Relentless Courage, Relentless Boldness, strength and persistence will overcome and shatter fear, timidity, cowardliness, feebleness and laziness. Move beyond the idea of prayer as a ritual or duty and learn how to truly communicate with God and experience His power and joy as never before. Christianity is not a religion, it's a relationship. A relationship takes time and must be developed to get the full benefit of it. With that thought in mind, Jesus taught us... "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened." -Matthew 7:7-8 (ESV) and 1 Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. James 5:13-18 13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms. 14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the LORD: 15And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the LORD shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. 16Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. 17 Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. 18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit."Prayer and seeking God must be our first priority, not our last resort and we must be in RELENTLESS Pursuit to become F.I.T by God's Design!"

Book excerpt: Prayer is the heartfelt reach of the soul for union with God. It encompasses many forms-from simple sighing, wordless groans of travail, invocation of the names of God, unknown tongues, the Lord's Prayer, other traditional prayers of the church such as the Jesus Prayer or the prayers of the rosary, psalms and hymns, carefully crafted and oft-repeated petitions of individuals, children's bedtime rhymes and even single words. Whether from committed believer, serious seeker or uncertain sinner, God receives our prayers and responds to them all. Although answers may not be immediate or patently obvious, no prayer is without effect. In fact, James 5:16 says that "The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective." Further, 1 Thessalonians 5:17 directs Christians to "pray continually." This book focuses on personal petitions for God's provision, protection and forgiveness, all beginning with the letter "R." Using this pneumonic device is just one way to expand our spiritual imagination and broaden the experiences we can have with Father, Son and Holy Spirit in prayer.
