Book excerpt: Manuscript notes in a leather folio wrapper on insects by American entomologist and conchologist Thomas Say (1787-1834), possibly compiled while he was in New Harmony, Indiana. There are four sections: Coleoptera; Neuroptera; Orthoptera; and Lepidoptera. The bulk of the notes are on Coleoptera. A label on the leather folio in an unknown hand indicates "some of them may have been published by Mr. Say." There are notes on insects collected in regions and states including Florida, Missouri and Arkansas, where Say traveled on Major Stephen Harriman Long's (1787-1864) expedition to the Rocky Mountains in 1819-1820; Say published his observations in a government account of the expedition.
