And the evidence shows it could have been any one of them, in this thrilling mystery with a big twist, for fans of Courtney Summers. Kate Marino's senior year internship at the District Attorney's Office isn't exactly glamorous--more like an excuse to leave school early that looks good on college applications. Then the DA hands her boss, Mr. Stone, the biggest case her small town of Belle Terre has ever seen. The River Point Boys are all anyone can talk about. Despite their damning toxicology reports the morning of the accident, the DA wants the boys' case swept under the rug. He owes his political office to their powerful families. Kate won't let that happen. Digging up secrets without revealing her own is a dangerous line to walk; Kate has personal reasons for seeking justice. As she gets dangerously close to the truth, it becomes clear that the early morning accident might not have been an accident at all-and if she doesn't uncover the true killer, more than one life could be on the line including her own.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The story of women's ministry is longer and far more varied than most people imagine. This book tells the story of women's ministry in the Free Churches, and looks at its impact on the ways we worship and live out our Christian lives. Women have ministered in garrets and gutters, at home and on the mission field. Today, women are fully engaged in ministry within our multicultural society, bringing a diversity of voices to match the diversity of the world in which we live. Six well-known contributors who are themselves involved in the story of women's ministry explore issues of leadership and authority, preaching and worship, global perspectives, the relation to feminist theology and the ecumenical setting. Their contributions are complemented by the voice of experience. Women from varied backgrounds tell their own stories of being called to a ministry that sometimes doesn't fit, of wrestling with the traditions that have nurtured their faith and that can put obstacles in their way. Here we see something of the variety and of the rich texture of women's ministries in the contemporary church. Some of the women represented here have found their journey to ministry uncomplicated. Others have traveled long and painful roads, meeting opposition and hostility. Many have moved from trying to be "one of the boys" to the recognition that their gender can have an influence on their ministry. The stories interact with the articles, bringing many lively and dramatic voices to the telling of "our story."

Book excerpt: Imagine if your club, the love of your life, was about to play its last ever game. The club you've cheered on as a child, which your family has supported for generations, whose colours you have dressed in every Saturday. How would you feel? This is his story of Heart of Midlothian, Edinburgh's oldest football club, and the 8,000 heroic fans (or Jambos, as they're affectionately known), who donated their own money to help rescue 'the boys in maroon'. Former Chair of the Foundation of Hearts Ian Murray here chronicles the unprecedented story of the turmoil and uncertainty that the club battled in the fight against liquidation. This book honours Hearts fans and their sheer determination to rescue their beloved club from the brink of extinction and raise it back up to the top of Scottish football. This is our story, this is our song...

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book seeks to examine the leadership of the Black church through a critical and theoretical lens utilizing historical and anthropological foci to better identify and understand some of the challenges within the paramount institution and its attrition to the Black American community at large and provide appropriate suggestions and generating frameworks for addressing the challenges. The church has always played a pivotal role in Black American culture's identity, development, and progression. Leadership and organizational challenges within the church pervasively matriculate to other Black spaces, historically Black organizations, and a broader societal context. Due to the church's historical and ethnographic context for Blacks in America, many of the challenges faced in the church go unrecognized, unspoken, thus unattended. This manuscript endeavors to identify the challenges, and flaws through research and data, to provide solutions through practical and theoretical implementations to some shortcomings for the betterment of the church and culture. The interconnectedness of culture and religion for Blacks in America established a gargantuan impact factor on the church and its leaders. This manuscript examines the pervading effects of the influence through leadership dispensation. It also explores the understanding of leadership through the lens of Black Christianity, deriving that the foundation of leadership in the Black community was primarily circumscribed by the influence of the church as conglomerate collectivism of almost five hundred years of the history and culture of Africans, African descendants, and members of the African diaspora in what is now America who contributed to the ideal of the Black church. The critical analysis provided is not one of condemnation but likened to a vital performance review through member experiences barred against applicable leadership and organizational development barometers.

Book excerpt: In these 11 stories—and the weird spaces in between—people of all kinds struggle to free themselves from conventions and constraints both personal and political. Places ranging from the farthest reaches of outer space to the creepy abandoned farmhouse in the middle of nowhere become battlegrounds for change and growth—sometimes at a massive cost. Tyranny takes many forms, some more subtle than others, and it is up to the reader to travel along with the characters, who improvise and create their own renditions of freedom. Poet and fiction writer DeNiro uses language like no other. This second collection of stories explores our relationship to art, history, and looks at how everyday events, personal and political, never cease to leave us off balance.

Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2014 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Other, grade: 2,7, University of Cologne, language: English, abstract: This paper will put its focus on tense and aspect and how the German-speaking writer Franz Kafka availed himself of these particular functions to achieve his goals he pursued with his texts: to puzzle the reader and to leave him wondering about what to believe is the reality they are living in. The first section of this paper will be dealing with the general terminology and briefly explain the terms tense and aspect which will be crucial and essential to the understanding. Tense will then again be split up into past tense and the (historical) present tense. After that, there will be a short depiction of Franz Kafka’s life and work, followed by rough summaries of his works “A Country Doctor” as well as “The Burrow” on which the focus will be put to demonstrate how tense and aspect are used in order to achieve his goals with the reader. The main part of this paper will be on the usage of said focus on tense and aspect in Kafka’s work. The terminology out of section (2) will be picked up and be put into connection and context with the two stories of Kafka’s to demonstrate how Kafka’s world works and what makes it so difficult to tell his (fictional) world apart from the one that the reader knows as reality. The key question shall be what the peculiar usage of tense and aspect is which is a distinct feature of Kafka’s texts affects the reader, and how they make the reader think about what he is reading or if he even realizes what is going on as far as tense and aspect is concerned. Is he able to process this flood of information that is headed his way? We will see that there is plenty to think about, plenty to take into account when reading both The Burrow and A Country Doctor.
