This book was released on 2016-10-08 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Tables and Diagrams of the Thermal Properties of Saturated and Superheated Steam Note TO the 1916 reprint. The experimental information which has become avail able since these tables were computed does not justify any appreciable change in them except in one respect. The work of Holborn and Baumann on the pressure-temperature relations of saturated steam at high pressures should apparently be accepted in preference to all previous work. The pressures involved are from 400 lb. Per sq. In. To the critical pressure and are consequently outside the range of usual engineering experience. The last few entries in Tables 3, and 6 have been changed to bring them into agreement with this new information. A new Mollier chart has been prepared which will be found to be more convenient. Than the earlier Diagram I. L. S. M. H. N. D. Cambridge, mass., August, 1916. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. This book was released on 2018-10-10 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Tables of the Properties of Steam and Other Vapors and Temperature-Entropy Table Tm; Tables of the Properties of Steam were calculated twenty years ago to accompany the author's Thermodynamics of the Steam Engine; since that time important experimental investigations have been made by Callendar, Barnes, Knoblauch and Thomas. The tables have been recomputed, introducing this information and with certain changes which will be found to facilitate their use. All the tables for saturated steam have columns of entropy due to vaporization; and the table in metric units has been made into a conversion table by aid of which proper ties can be found in either metric or English units or a combination of the two systems may be used. Download or read book Properties of Steam and Ammonia (Classic Reprint) written by G. A. Goodenough and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-10-08 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Properties of Steam and Ammonia The older tables of the properties of steam were neither consistent nor accurate. The tabular values were calculated from empirical formu las based chie y on Regnault's data, and the necessity of consistency was not recognized. Two sets of tables have been based on the general theory developed by Callendar. These are absolutely consistent, but in the light of the knowledge acquired from the Munich experiments, they can no longer be regarded as accurate. In certain tables that have appeared recently have been embodied the results of the Munich experi ments and also the researches of Dr. Davis on the total heat of steam. These tables are undoubtedly far more accurate than the earlier tables, but, having a more or less empirical basis, they are not rigorously con sistent. The tables of the properties of saturated and superheated steam here presented are based on a new formulation the essential features of which are discussed in the first section of the book. A more complete exposi tion will be found in Bulletin No. 75, Engineering Experiment Station, University of Illinois. The new theory correlates perfectly the experi ments on the volume and specific heat of superheated steam; it gives values of the heat content of saturated steam that agree with those deduced by Davis from the throttling experiments; and, in general, it meets satisfactorily all the tests furnished by the available experimental evidence. The tables derived from the formulation are necessarily con sistent, and they are at the same time extremely accurate. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Specific Heat of Superheated Steam: Thesis Although superheated steam finds a very extensive use in the technical world, little has been knows, until very recently, of one of its important physical properties, namely, its specific heat at constant pressure. Regnault's experiments in 1862, all conducted at atmospheric pressures, and at temperatures relatively close to the saturation limit, did not seem to prove that the Specific heat at constant pressure (9) is independent of either the pressure or the temperature; still the well known value he derived, Opt: has been accepted generally for all temperatures and pressures. Book Synopsis Tables of the Properties of Saturated Steam and Other Vapors (Classic Reprint) by : Cecil H. Peabody
Download or read book Tables of the Properties of Saturated Steam and Other Vapors (Classic Reprint) written by Cecil H. Peabody and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-23 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Tables of the Properties of Saturated Steam and Other Vapors A comparison of the several tables of the properties of saturated steam, expressed in English units, reveals discrepancies of considerable magnitude; and investigation Shows that, while all are in some manner founded on the experiments of Regnault, various methods of calculation have been used, and in some cases other experimental data have been employed. A review of the Whole subject, in connection with the preparation of notes on thermo dynamics for the use of the students of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, made it seem important to calculate a set of tables, to accompany those notes, founded on the best and most recent data. In presenting the tables for general use, it appears proper to state in full the data and the methods of calculation employed, so that each one may see the degree of accuracy and correctness of the tables, and the reliance to be placed on them. Tables of the properties of other vapors have been added, which will be discussed hereafter. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Synopsis The Callendar Steam Tables (Classic Reprint) by : H. L. Callendar
Download or read book The Callendar Steam Tables (Classic Reprint) written by H. L. Callendar and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-26 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Callendar Steam Tables Properties of Steam, in which the theory of steam and experimental methods of investigation are more fully discussed and illustrated. The principal formulae and numerical results are here summarised, together with directions for using the diagram. The tables are founded on experimental measurements (1) of the specific heat of water and the mechanical equivalent (2) of the specific heat of steam by the Author's continuous electric method; (3) of the adiabatic index with a compensated platinum thermometer; (4) of the joule-thomson cooling-effect with a differential throttling calorimeter. The theory and results of these experiments were published in the Proceedings of the Royal Society and in the Encyclopedia Britannica.* The properties of steam were represented by the simplest equations which could be chosen to satisfy the laws of thermodynamics, and at the same time to agree with experiment over the range required in practice. The theory was verified by calculating the values of the saturation pressure, which were found to agree with the observations of Regnault. This book was released on 2018-10-05 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Review of Calorimetric Measurements on Thermal Properties of Saturated Water and Steam Water was admitted into a vacuum-jacketed glass calorimeter at a steady but controllable rate, and its temperature was raised by means of an electric heater located in the stream between a pair of differential resistance thermometers which indicated the temperature rise. The amount of water which had passed through the calorimeter was determined by weighing. The experiments were performed at a constant pressure differing from the atmospheric pressure by the small pressure head used to maintain the flow. Download or read book Tables of Thermal Properties of Gases written by Joseph Hilsenrath and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-10 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Tables of Thermal Properties of Gases: Comprising Tables of Thermodynamic and Transport Properties of Air, Argon, Carbon Dioxide, Carbon Monoxide, Hydrogen, Nitrogen, Oxygen, and Steam The computation of the thermodynamic properties of the real gases was accomplished through the representation of the data of state (pvt data) by one of a number of equations of state. Except for the data for steam, which were fitted to an empirical equation, the virial equation of state was employed in this compilation. The virial equation expresses the compressibility factor, Z pv/rt, as an infinite series either in powers of the density or the pressure.
