Book excerpt: Beware The Silence stands as a testament to the enduring allure and inherent mystery of the unsaid, the unexplained, and the eerily quiet moments that precede a storm. Spanning an impressive range of literary styles, from the gothic to the speculative, the realist to the supernatural, this collection delves into the silence that speaks volumes, exploring themes of isolation, the unknown, and the uncanny. This anthology is notable not just for its breadth but also for its depth, featuring standout pieces that showcase the unique intersections of culture, time, and psychology, marking a significant contribution to the literary landscape. The authors and editors represented in Beware The Silence collectively bring a rich mosaic of backgrounds, from the well-trodden halls of classic literature by Jane Austen and Charles Dickens to the shadowy corners explored by H. P. Lovecraft and Edgar Allan Poe. These authors, hailing from varied eras and regions, contribute to a multifaceted exploration of the anthology's theme, each drawing from their unique personal, historical, and cultural contexts. Their works reflect the diverse literary movements they belonged to, from Romanticism to Victorian literature, from realism to the birth of modern horror and speculative fiction, enriching the reader's understanding of how silence can signify across different temporal and cultural landscapes. Beware The Silence invites readers into a rich tapestry of narratives that promise to captivate, haunt, and challenge. It stands as a unique opportunity to traverse a wide spectrum of human emotion and experience, offering insights into the often underexplored themes of silence and the unsaid. For scholars, students, and enthusiasts of literature, this collection provides not only a voyage into the many facets of silence but also fosters a dialogue between the past and present, the said and the unsaid, making it a must-read for anyone intrigued by the complexities that define the human condition.

This book was released on 2023-05-22 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: MERHABA, KONNICHIWA.. This book is about two of the most inspiring leaders of all time, Atatürk and Emperor Meiji of Japan, and the destinies of the countries they changed, Turkey and Japan. Atatürk was the founding father of the new Republic of Turkey after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, and Meiji was the 122nd Emperor of Japan who established a new system of government in Japan following the departure of the last shogun. Atatürk (1881-1938) and Meiji (1852-1912) were mirror images of one another. They both were revolutionary reformists, determined to unleash their countries from their feudal pasts into modernity. The identical reforms of Atatürk in Turkey in the 1920s and the 1930s, and Meiji’s reforms in Japan in the late 1800s were intended to rip their countries out of the darkness of the Middle Ages. They both foresaw their nations’ advancement only through full adaptation of Western values and institutions, which was an extremely difficult task, considering the impossible ordeal of convincing the predominantly unsophisticated and regressive Muslim and Shinto societies. They changed their peoples’ obstinate cultural habits and institutions of thousands of years. Having an unyielding commitment to secularism, they identified secularism to be the only path to modernization. * All these and many other similar accomplishments were truly extraordinary because of their very identical nature; however, as I discovered during my research the eerie similar past lives, life experiences and personal resemblances of Atatürk and Meiji in opposite corners of the world, I felt that the writing of this book became more of a mission for me than just writing a history book. The core of this book however, explores two issues: the first is the reason why Turkey and Japan occupy two starkly contrasting places on the world stage today, despite the fact that Atatürk and Meiji had enacted nearly identical reforms in their respective countries; the second is the nature of the current and ongoing conflict between two different factions in Turkey – the political Islamists and the Western-minded secularists, the followers of Atatürk. Equally importantly, I will also talk about the Turkish and Japanese cultures and the curiously intertwined histories of Turkey and Japan, which go back 747 years, dating back to the invasions of Japan in 1274 and 1281 by Kublai Khan’s Mongolian armies, which, by the way, were mostly made up of Christian Turks. As I mentioned at the top, although the essence of this book is to make comparisons between the contrasting end results of identical reforms of Atatürk in Turkey in the 1920s and the 1930s, and Meiji’s reforms in Japan in the late 1800s, the end result of that contrast between Japan and Turkey actually emerges before us as one foregone conclusion: Turkey, since Atatürk’s death in 1938, did not follow his footsteps, unlike Japan after Meiji. So, what did happen? Why did Turkey and Japan with the very identical reforms of Atatürk and Meiji end up in two contrasting places in the spectrum of advanced development today? What was the culprit? My arguments in this book will point in the direction of the political Islamists and their manipulative usage of Islam since Atatürk’s death, most specifically, in the direction of the cruel war they have waged in recent years against Atatürk’s secular and Western ideals.

Herein we see the truth about many things in the Bible that most dont even pretend to know. We look at the unseen but very real part of the iceberg of truth. Weve been told that a life of Christianity is hard, yet how is it that Jesus told us that His yoke is easy and His burden is light? In this study, one can readily see that living a life the way others wish you to is truly difficult. At the same time, following the examples and teachings of Jesus is both simple and pleasurable. You may have your faith strengthened. You may finally develop a faith of your own. You may tweak your relationship with God. You may completely alter your previous beliefs. In some way, you will be changed by your study in this work.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The United States is one of the most highly educated societies on earth, and also one of the most religious. In The God Problem, Robert Wuthnow examines how middle class Americans juggle the seemingly paradoxical relationship between faith and reason. Based on exceptionally rich and candid interviews with approximately two hundred people from various faiths, this book dispels the most common explanations: that Americans are adept at keeping religion and intellect separate, or that they are a nation of "joiners." Instead, Wuthnow argues, we do this—not by coming up with rational proofs for the existence of God—but by adopting subtle usages of language that keep us from making unreasonable claims about God. In an illuminating narrative that reveals the complex negotiations many undertake in order to be religious in the modern world, Wuthnow probes the ways of talking that occur in prayers, in discussions about God, in views of heaven, in understandings of natural catastrophes and personal tragedies, and in attempts to reconcile faith with science.

This book was released on 2015-01-09 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christianity abounds with fascinating, little-known trivia. Gas station attendants, for example, enjoy their own patron saint. So do stamp collectors, truss makers and sailors in the Bolivian navy. Jesus and Judas were common names in the biblical period, and Jesus of Nazareth had a brother named Judas. The forbidden fruit was more likely an apricot than an apple, and Delilah hired a barber to cut Sampson's hair. This dictionary of miscellany combs the annals of Christian esoterica, offering the most intriguing facts that are often forgotten, overlooked or ignored. Departing from the standard subject matter, this work serves as an unruly companion to the typical Bible dictionary. Nearly 1500 entries range from Aaron's beard (a popular name for Saint John's wort) to zounds (an antiquated Christian swear word). Information is cross-referenced and includes numerous quotations.
