En effet, enseigner n'est pas un acte aussi aisé qu'on le pense, tout comme l'acte d'apprendre. Beaucoup d'enseignants ne comprennent pas pourquoi leurs élèves ne comprennent pas et butent le jour de l'examen sur des exercices qui paraissent à leur portée. Plusieurs facteurs explicatifs entrent en jeu, parmi lesquels la méconnaissance des mécanismes et des stratégies de l'apprentissage. Le travail d'un enseignant non formé à la pédagogie et à la didactique où il découvre la plus-value des théories de l'apprentissage, ne peut pas être fructueux et ne peut pas aboutir à un enseignement stratégique, efficace et capable de modifier les représentations initiales des élèves.
