Book Synopsis The Founding Texts of Economics by : Philippe Gilles
Download or read book The Founding Texts of Economics written by Philippe Gilles and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-02-06 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Smith’s Wealth of Nations, Marx’s Capital, and Keynes’s General Theory are three paradigmatic texts which are foundational to any study of economics or political economy. Although they have long been abundantly quoted and commented on, these “Great Books” paradoxically are being read less and less, as the price of their success. The aim of this book is to encourage the reader to re-read these Texts, by providing “theoretical and conceptual entries” in the spirit of a reasoned dictionary. Hence the return to these works in the text, in statu nascendi, to shed light on their complexities, to loosen the imperialism of received ideas, and to underline their topicality from a theoretical point of view and to understand contemporary economic issues. For example, Adam Smith’s view of the need to add a liberal state to the “system of natural liberty,” Marx’s view of the ability of the capitalist system to overcome temporarily but periodically its contradictions, or Keynes’ view of the essential role of psychology in the decisions and behaviour of men in society. This book is vital reading for anyone interested in the history of economic thought, the founding theories of political economy and the history of ideas more broadly.

Book Synopsis Keynes and His Battles by : The late Gilles Dostaler
Download or read book Keynes and His Battles written by The late Gilles Dostaler and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This fascinating book is the first to bring together and examine all aspects of the life and work of one of the most influential thinkers of the last century, John Maynard Keynes, whose theses are still hotly debated. It combines, in an accessible, unique and cohesive manner, analytical, biographical and contextual elements from a variety of perspectives. Gilles Dostaler studies in detail the battles that Keynes led on various fronts - politics, philosophy, art, and of course economics - in the pursuit of a single and lifelong goal: to radically transform society to create a better world, a world pacified and freed from the neurotic pursuit of financial wealth and economic rentability, with art at its pinnacle. Containing detailed presentations of the Bloomsbury group and the political history of Great Britain, Keynes and his Battles is an essential reference to this most important of 20th century figures whose central message remains as topical today as it ever was. The study also contains a unique chronology of Keynes¿s life and historical events, portraits of Keynes by his friends and contemporaries, as well as a full bibliography of all his books, chapters contributed to books, journal articles and reviews. Scholars, students and researchers of economics - the history of economic thought in particular - political science, sociology, history, philosophy and the history of arts will find this an absorbing and revealing work. The book should also interest journalists, decision makers in society and all those who are preoccupied by the problems of our time.
Book Synopsis ANALYSIS OF INTERNATIONAL SOCIAL POLICIES by : JULIEN BOKILO
Download or read book ANALYSIS OF INTERNATIONAL SOCIAL POLICIES written by JULIEN BOKILO and published by American Academic Press. This book was released on 2021-12-13 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Main idea: Contribution of transnational transfers in the construction of national social policies. Through the main idea of the book, we begin by defining the notion of decline, to identify consequences of the decline of political authority with regard to social problems, to better analyze the importance of the address of countries in development path towards international donors. In addition, we used Policy Transfer Studies (PTS) to show how the contributions of transnational transfers on the development of national social policies are considered as the lever for the integration of developing countries. But, in other words, these countries are considered as the places of fixation where interdependencies between public and private actors are consolidated, where rules of action are negotiated thanks to the agreements, conventions, which we have analyzed throughout, through two types of partnership, namely: bilateral and multilateral, through public-public, public-private, private-private (INGO-International Institution) partnerships. Finally, we carried out an evaluation, in order to subsequently identify some perspectives encouraged by transnational contributions on the social policies of developing countries.

Book Synopsis Bloomsbury and France by : Mary Ann Caws
Download or read book Bloomsbury and France written by Mary Ann Caws and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1999-12-02 with total page 703 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Bloomsbury on the Mediterranean," is how Vanessa Bell described France in a letter to her sister, Virginia Woolf. Remarking on the vivifying effect of Cassis, Woolf herself said, "I will take my mind out of its iron cage and let it swim.... Complete heaven, I think it." Yet until now there has never been a book that focused on the profound influence of France on the Bloomsbury group. In Bloomsbury and France: Art and Friends, Mary Ann Caws and Sarah Bird Wright reveal the crucial importance of the Bloomsbury group's frequent sojourns to France, the artists and writers they met there, and the liberating effect of the country itself. Drawing upon many previously unpublished letters, memoirs, and photographs, the book illuminates the artistic development of Virginia and Leonard Woolf, Clive Bell, David Garnett, E. M. Forster, Lytton Strachey, Dora Carrington, and others. The authors cover all aspects of the Bloomsbury experience in France, from the specific influence of French painting on the work of Roger Fry, Duncan Grant, and Vanessa Bell, to the heady atmosphere of the medieval Cistercian Abbaye de Pontigny, the celebrated meeting place of French intellectuals where Lytton Strachey, Julian Bell, and Charles Mauron mingled with writers and critics, to the relationships between the Bloomsbury group and Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Gertrude Stein, Andre Gide, Jean Marchand, and many others. Caws and Wright argue that Bloomsbury would have been very different without France, that France was their anti-England, a culture in which their eccentricities and aesthetic experiments could flower. This remarkable study offers a rich new perspective on perhaps the most creative group of artists and friends in the 20th century.

Book Synopsis Aux sources de l'OMC by : Jean-Christophe Graz
Download or read book Aux sources de l'OMC written by Jean-Christophe Graz and published by Librairie Droz. This book was released on 1999 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
