Book Synopsis Search for New Physics in the B(s) Sector at the Tevatron by :
Download or read book Search for New Physics in the B(s) Sector at the Tevatron written by and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While B° and B mesons are well studied at B-factories, large samples of B{sub s}° mesons are only available at the Tevatron so far. Since the B{sub s}° meson consists of quarks of the second and third generation it provides a complementary probe for searches for new physics effects. Results of the CDF and D0 experiments on the decays B{sub s}° →?+?− and B{sub s}° →?+?−? as well as on CP violation in B{sub s}° mixing and in interference between mixing and decay are presented.

Download or read book Rare Decays of B Mesons and Baryons at the Tevatron and the LHC. written by and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The experimental study of rare decays of hadrons containing the b quark has been a fertile ground for some time, and keeps being one of the most interesting subjects in high energy physics. It has improved our understanding of hadronic processes, and allows investigating various aspects of the Standard Model and searching for hints of physics beyond the Standard Model. Examples are the comparison of branching fractions of charmless modes with predictions of models, the constraints on CKM angles (B0 → [pi]+[pi]-, B → DK, with D in suppressed modes), the observation of purely leptonic modes (B± → [tau]±v), the recently established difference in ACP between B0 → K+[pi]- and B± → K±[pi]0, suspected to be a hint new physics. All of them came from a long and successful experimental activity with e+e- collisions at the Y(4S) resonance. With hadronic colliders now coming into play, the study of rare decays is reaching new heights. Given the high cross section for production of all kinds of B hadrons, the record luminosities now provided by the Tevatron collider, and the LHC program in view for the next years, there is the potential for a rich program of interesting new measurements, including even rarer modes as the Bs0 → [mu]+[mu]-, strongly suppressed in the standard model but very sensitive to many NP scenarios. The complexity of the hadronic collision environment, however, requires detectors with high precision and high quality tracking, and a trigger system capable of complex event selections at high rates. The CDF experiment, thanks to a fast trigger on impact parameter, has been able to reconstruct many rare B decays, including previously unobserved modes Bs0 → K+K- and Bs0 → K-[pi]+, the latter being particularly interesting for its relationship with the puzzling difference in CP asymmetry between neutral and charged modes. In this thesis we go beyond B mesons, and present the first measurements of Branching fractions and CP asymmetries in charmless b-baryon modes. We study two-body [Lambda]b0 decays into final states with a proton and a charged pion or kaon. Their branching fractions can be significantly affected by New Physics contributions; under supersymmetric models with R-parity violation, they can be increased by two orders of magnitude. Their CP-violating asymmetries are also interesting to measure in search for possible further anomalies: then may reach significant size O(30%) in the Standard Model, and are also sensitive to possible new physics sources.

Book Synopsis Mesons And Nuclei At Intermediate Energies - Proceedings Of The International Conference by : Mikhail Kh Khankhasayev
Download or read book Mesons And Nuclei At Intermediate Energies - Proceedings Of The International Conference written by Mikhail Kh Khankhasayev and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1995-02-17 with total page 882 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the main goals of intermediate energy nuclear physics, which serves an important role as a bridge between nuclear and particle physics, is to construct the theory of strong interaction phenomena in terms of conventional degrees of freedom (nucleons, deltas and mesons) as well as of quark degrees of freedom. The main topics to be discussed at this conference are the interaction of pions and other mesons with nuclei at intermediate energies and the role of mesonic degrees of freedom in nuclear reactions, including photon, hadron and heavy ion induced reactions. Both theoretical and experimental results will be included.Over the past two decades, the Meson Factories, including LAMPF, TRIUMF, and PSI, have provided us with systematic experimental information on hadron-hadron and hadron-nucleus dynamics. Major accelerators of JINR are also suitable for studying problems in Intermediate Energy Nuclear Physics. At the present time, first experiments have been performed with the proton beams at the Moscow Meson Factory of INR. One of the purposes of this conference is to introduce the intermediate-energy physics community to the possibility of utilizing the facilities of JINR and INR during the next decade.
Book Synopsis Flavor Physics and the TeV Scale by : George W. S. Hou
Download or read book Flavor Physics and the TeV Scale written by George W. S. Hou and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-02-26 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second edition of this monograph discusses the usefulness of heavy flavor as a probe of TeV-scale physics, exploring a number of recently-uncovered “flavor anomalies” that are suggestive of possible TeV-scale phenomena. The large human endeavor at the Large Hadron Collider has not turned up any New Physics, except the last particle of the Standard Model, the Higgs boson. Revised and updated throughout, this book puts the first results from the LHC into perspective and provides an outlook for a new era of flavor physics. The author readdresses many questions raised in the first edition and poses new ones. As before, the experimental perspective is taken, with a focus on processes, rather than theories or models, as a basis for exploration, and two-thirds of the book is concerned with b -^ s or bs sb transitions. In the face of the advent of Belle II and other flavor experiments, this book becomes a part of a dialogue between the energy/collider and intensity/flavor frontiers that will continue over the coming decade. Researchers with an interest in modern particle physics will find this book particularly valuable.

Download or read book B Factories written by Boštjan Golob and published by Morgan & Claypool Publishers. This book was released on 2019-04-01 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: B Factories are particle colliders at which specific subatomic particles - B mesons - are produced abundantly. The purpose is to study the properties of their decays in great detail in order to shed light on a mystery of eminently larger scale: why do we live in a universe composed of anti-matter? This book introduces readers to the physics laws of the CP asymmetry, touching on experimental requirements needed to perform such measurements at the subatomic level, and illustrating the main findings of the contemporary B Factories.
Book Synopsis Perspectives On Lhc Physics by : Gordon Kane
Download or read book Perspectives On Lhc Physics written by Gordon Kane and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2008-06-27 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Large Hadron Collider (LHC), located at CERN, Geneva, Switzerland, is the world's largest and highest energy and highest intensity particle accelerator. Here is a timely book with several perspectives on the hoped-for discoveries from the LHC.This book provides an overview on the techniques that will be crucial for finding new physics at the LHC, as well as perspectives on the importance and implications of the discoveries. Among the accomplished contributors to this book are leaders and visionaries in the field of particle physics beyond the Standard Model, including two Nobel Laureates (Steven Weinberg and Frank Wilczek), and presumably some future Nobel Laureates, plus top younger theorists and experimenters. With its blend of popular and technical contents, the book will have wide appeal, not only to physical scientists but also to those in related fields.
