Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Yellow Bills is a book aimed at 6-9 year olds taking them on an enchanting tale of unlikely friendships and striving against all the odds to reach one’s dreams. Mya is an eight year old girl who loves planes and wants to be a pilot when she grows up. As luck would have it she comes across a flying school run by Lieutenant Drake who awards his pupils with pilot hat’s when they graduate. Mya thinks this will be a great start to her flying career and wants to join the class, but there’s just one problem. She’s not a duck! Could Goose the little duckling with big flying ambitions be the key to helping her fly and getting her pilot’s hat? Or will Mr Sour, the teacher who didn’t quite make the grade himself, have other ideas? As Mya tries to fly she realises she has taken on more than she bargained for and only has numerous scrapes and bruises to show for her effort. Her idea of a winged cape falls flat on its face, literally, and her good friend Goose, who has offered to help her is at a loss as to how she can get off the ground. However, an unlikely source of help comes in the shape of her Mum who surprises her one day with a modified bike. In fact it’s more than modified it’s downright monstrous, with a huge wing and propeller attached to the top. It’s only meant for show but Mya is determined to prove her mum wrong – the bike will fly. Inspired by authors such as Roald Dahl and Angela Sommer-Bodenburg’s ‘The Little Vampire’ collection, Michelle McKenna weaves a story with the humour and invention of Nick Ward’s ‘Charlie Small’ series meets Dick King Smith’s wonder of the animal world.

Download or read book Huge Cloudy written by Bill Carty and published by . This book was released on 2019-04-23 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Poetry. In his debut collection HUGE CLOUDY, Bill Carty attends to the world, bringing thought to vision with a cartographer's sense of scale, and a shipbuilder's attention to detail. Alternating stretches of lyric narrative with longer serial poems, HUGE CLOUDY proceeds by a Ship of Theseus poetics. Like a series of field notes, the poems document change as the contemporary landscape is revised by big and small forces--the bank vault that becomes an open mic, the pond that becomes condos, the puddle of vomit to walk around. These poems attend to the ugliness of a world, of a history, or poetic lineage, with a magic map. Drawing as much from the neighborhoods of Seattle as from coastal environs, this is a collection that folds the map--a kind of bounding sphere--in on itself.

Book Synopsis Beyond the Xs and Os by : Mark C. Poloncarz
Download or read book Beyond the Xs and Os written by Mark C. Poloncarz and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 2019-08-19 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beyond the Xs and Os is the previously unpublished story of how a long-term stadium lease was negotiated and signed by New York's Erie County, the state, and the Buffalo Bills football team. Mark C. Poloncarz, the elected executive of the community that owned the stadium, provides a rare glimpse into the long, difficult, but ultimately rewarding effort to successfully conclude negotiations between a National Football League (NFL) franchise, the NFL, and a multitude of players from the political arena, including Governor Andrew Cuomo and US Senator Chuck Schumer. Poloncarz discusses the financial side of sports and reveals how the county was able to navigate what proved to be often-turbulent waters. Complicating negotiations was an ongoing frenzy in the local news media, hungry for any news about the new lease, and Bills team owner Ralph C. Wilson Jr., who was ninety-two and had said the team would be sold upon his death, thereby possibly being relocated to another city. In the end, a new lease was signed and the Bills remained in Buffalo at a time when a number of similar sized communities watched their teams relocate to other cities in larger markets.

Book excerpt: From award-winning ProPublica reporter Marshall Allen, a primer for anyone who wants to fight the predatory health care system--and win. Every year, millions of Americans are overcharged and underserved while the health care industry makes record profits. We know something is wrong, but the layers of bureaucracy designed to discourage complaints make pushing back seem impossible. At least, this is what the health care power players want you to think. Never Pay the First Bill is the guerilla guide to health care the American people and employers need. Drawing on 15 years of investigating the health care industry, reporter Marshall Allen shows how companies and individuals have managed to force medical providers to play fair, and shows how you can, too. He reveals the industry's pressure points and how companies and individuals have fought overbilling, price gouging, insurance denials, and more to get the care they deserve. Laying out a practical plan for protecting yourself against the system's predatory practices, Allen offers the inspiration you need and tried-and-true strategies such as: Analyze and contest your medical bills, so you don't pay more than you should Obtain the billing codes for a procedure in advance Write in an appropriate treatment clause before signing financial documents Get your way by suing in small claims court Few politicians and CEOs have been willing to stand up to the medical industry. It is up to the American people to equip ourselves to fight back for the sake of our families--and everyone else.
