These stories of great women who have achieved full illumination—overcoming cultural prejudices and a host of other problems which male practitioners do not encounter—offer a wealth of inspiration to everyone on the spiritual path. In this revised and expanded edition, Tsultrim Allione’s extensive autobiographical preface and introduction speak directly to the difficulties and triumphs of women in the West who pursue a spiritual life, as she shares her own stories and experiences. Women of Wisdom offers valuable insights to all those interested in women’s spirituality, regardless of background or tradition.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER! The women of the Bible lived timeless stories—by examining them, we can understand what it means to be a woman of faith. People unfamiliar with Scripture often assume that women play a small, secondary role in the Bible. But in fact, they were central figures in numerous Biblical tales. It was Queen Esther’s bravery at a vital point in history which saved her entire people. The Bible contains warriors like Jael, judges like Deborah, and prophets like Miriam. The first person to witness Jesus’ resurrection was Mary Magdalene, who promptly became the first Christian evangelist, eager to share the news which would change the world forever. In The Women of the Bible Speak, Fox News Channel's Shannon Bream opens up the lives of sixteen of these Biblical women, arranging them into pairs and contrasting their journeys. In pairing their stories, Shannon helps us reflect not only on the meaning of each individual’s life, but on how they relate to each other and to us. From the shepherdesses of ancient Israel who helped raise the future leaders of the people of God, to the courageous early Christians, the narrative of the Bible offers us many vivid and fascinating female characters. In their lives we can see common struggles to resist bitterness, despair, and pride, and to instead find their true selves in faith, hope, and love. In studying these heroes of the faith, we can find wisdom and warnings for how to better navigate our own faith journeys. The Women of the Bible Speak outlines the lessons we can take from the valor of Esther, the hope of Hannah, the audacity of Rahab, and the faith of Mary. In broadening each woman’s individual story, Shannon offers us a deeper understanding of each, and wisdom and insights that can transform our own lives today.

Book excerpt: The distorted view of the perfect female body created by popular culture, television, movies, and the media often causes women to become uncomfortable with their own bodies. Christine Valters Paintner, popular author of nine books and abbess of the online retreat center Abbey of the Arts, draws from Celtic, desert, and Benedictine traditions to help women connect with their bodies through writing, visual art, and movement. In The Wisdom of the Body, Christine Valters Paintner focuses on the true meaning of the Incarnation--God became flesh--and points to the spiritual importance of appreciating the bodies God gave us. Each of the book's ten chapters is a mini-workshop designed to lead us to new ways of being in relationship with our bodies. Starting with the senses and shifting toward emotions and desires, Paintner explores their role as thresholds to discovering the body's wisdom. She draws from Christian tradition to offer principles and practices such as stability, hospitality, and gratitude to lead us on a journey that ends with a sense of deep peace and self-acceptance. Through expressive arts and creative movement, Paintner demonstrates a new a language and way of integrating and sharing our discoveries. By exploring the lives of women in the Bible and in the Christian tradition--including Eve, Mary, Hildegaard of Bingen, and Amma Syncletica--Paintner introduces us to companions that accompany us on our journey.

Book excerpt: Ordinary Women, Extraordinary Wisdom is a collection of intimate, heartfelt conversations with women spiritual teachers who live and look like ordinary people. They have kids, husbands, jobs, and bills to pay. What makes them extraordinary is that each woman has awakened to her true nature. And while that sounds like enlightenment, it doesn't look like the old stereotype of transcendence, detachment, and bliss. Quite the contrary. This is the feminine half of the spiritual journey--bringing it down to earth and embracing all of what it means to be human.

Book excerpt: Women of the world have come a long way! From securing voting rights to pursuing equal opportunities at work, women have had to fight hard to break the barriers placed around them. However, as proven by the 14 women profiled in this book, regardless of whatever barriers may have existed and still exist, women over the centuries have forged ahead and fought against the odds to succeed! Why did I pick only 14 stories? Well, there are just so many stories to share. However, these ones cut across race, background, profession, status and even faith, but they all have one thing in common - they are women who didn't allow the circumstances they faced stop them from achieving their dreams. They all had a burning desire to fulfill purpose against all odds. They didn't care whether other women were typically seen to do what they did; they just went ahead and did it anyway. Each story about these very different women teaches us powerful lessons about how to live fulfilling and impactful lives despite the various challenges we all face. All these women were not necessarily trying to be famous... they were just being themselves, and in being who they were, they attracted fame and so much more. They may be long gone, but the lessons from their lives are still applicable today. Most of the women written about in this book have inspired me from my childhood, and that's why I wrote this book in language that even a young girl can easily grasp. It is written with the hope that women of all ages who read it can draw inspiration from it. In its simplicity, I believe there is depth for anyone to easily retrieve and run with.As I researched the women in this book, I was intrigued by all the amazing facts I uncovered, but a bit sad that for some of the women - especially the women from Nigeria - their beautiful stories had not been told enough. I am honored to help tell their important stories, and it is my desire that what I have been able to glean from their lives will be enough to inspire everyone who reads this book.At the end of every chapter, I have a question drawn from their lives to help us ponder as we keep growing as individuals. I urge you to reflect seriously on each question, take notes, discuss with others, and more importantly take positive action in the right direction. As I wrote this book I also thought about my mother, Nwamalubia Gloria "BB' Nwokedi (Nee Anadu). She no doubt had the hugest impact on me as a child, and when I am faced with challenges, I often think about how she would handle them. Despite being sent to live with relatives as a little girl and losing her mother at a young age, she was a woman of incredible strength. She didn't allow herself to become bitter from any negative experiences she passed through, and had an uncommon passion for people. Even though she passed on a while ago, I still hear stories from people she impacted with her wisdom, kindness and generosity. She was down to earth yet very classy, forward-thinking, extremely kind and giving in so many ways. One lesson I learnt from the incredible woman who birthed me was to see the best in every single person. By writing about the women in this book before you, it is my desire that we are all inspired to reach for the stars and keep pushing forward to positively affect others, while remaining true to ourselves. I hope that we are all inspired to achieve success in every area of our life... as mothers, daughters, wives, leaders, colleagues, friends, sisters...as women
