Download or read book Hunters of the White Sheep written by Lynn Soiseth and published by Publication Consultants. This book was released on 2018-10-15 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The experience of an alpine hunt for the golden-crowned King of the Alaska Alpine, can be a life-changing event for both the hunter and the hunted. It is part of the mystique of sheep hunting-that the ‘sport' learns as much about himself and his capabilities, as he learns about the hunt. In Hunters of the White Sheep you will encounter an eclectic collection of hunters and their backstories as they hunt for the golden-horned rams. Read along and you will be transported to base camps in the sheep mountains by foot, airplane, ATV, jet boat, and bicycle. Once at the base camp, the hunters forgo mechanized transportation and revert to shoe leather as they pursue the white rams over wind-swept ridges, frightening chasms, chilly-blue glaciers, and sometimes, surprisingly gentle hills. Although much hunting information, such as techniques and locations can be gleaned by reading the stories carefully, this is not intended to be a how-to-hunt sheep book.

Book Synopsis East of the West by : Miroslav Penkov
Download or read book East of the West written by Miroslav Penkov and published by Bond Street Books. This book was released on 2011-07-05 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A brilliant debut from a rising talent praised by Salman Rushdie, among others. A grandson tries to buy the corpse of Lenin on eBay for his Communist grandfather. A failed wunderkind steals a golden cross from an orthodox church. A boy meets his cousin (the love of his life) once every five years in the waters of the river that divides their village into East and West. These are some of the strange, unexpectedly moving events in talented newcomer Miroslav Penkov's vision of his home country, Bulgaria, and they are the stories that make up his extraordinary debut collection. In East of the West Penkov writes with great empathy about 800 years of tumult in troubled Eastern Europe; his characters mourn the way things were and long for things that will never be. But even as the characters wrestle with the weight of history, the debt to family, and the pangs of exile, the stories themselves are light and deft, animated by Penkov's unmatched eye for the absurd. In 2008, Salman Rushdie chose Penkov's story "Buying Lenin" (which appears in this collection) for that year's Best American Short Stories, citing its heart and humour. East of the West reveals the full realization of the brilliant potential that Rushdie recognized.
Book Synopsis Hassaniya Arabic (Mali) by : Jeffrey Heath
Download or read book Hassaniya Arabic (Mali) written by Jeffrey Heath and published by Otto Harrassowitz Verlag. This book was released on 2003 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In most countries of the Maghreb, the local Arabic vernaculars are increasingly inundated by vocabulary, grammatical forms, and even syntax from literary Arabic (used in mosques, schools, and media), and oral poetry is receding except for popular song genres. The Arabs of the TimbuktuGao region, by contrast, are a peripheral linguistic minority with little exposure to literary Arabic. They continue to speak a relatively pure beduin Arabic, closely related to varieties spoken in Mauritania and southern Algeria. These texts, recorded in 1986-1989 and presented here in transcription along with facing English translations, document this language, as well as the remarkable verbal culture of these people. The ethnographic texts cover such topics as the annual salt caravans from Timbuktu to Taoudenni, the perils of the pastoral life, and adjustments to city life. The "poetic" texts include recitations of locally familiar poems, typically integrated into narratives or otherwise contextualized. The poems, consisting of quatrains (gaf) and more extended poems (tal'a), are often satirical or even bawdy in nature.Jeffrey Heath is Professor of Linguistics and Near Eastern Studies at the University of Michigan. He is the author of many fieldworkbased works, including grammars, dictionaries, and text collections on languages of Australia and on Songhay languages of West Africa.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: SAINT BERNARD OF CLAIRVAUX COLLECTION [8 BOOKS] — Quality Formatting and Value — Active Index, Multiple Table of Contents for all Books — Multiple Illustrations Bernard of Clairvaux, was a French abbot and the primary reformer for the Cistercian order. After the death of his mother, Bernard sought admission into the Cistercian order. "Three years later, he was sent to found a new abbey at an isolated clearing in a glen known as the Val d'Absinthe, about 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) southeast of Bar-sur-Aube. According to tradition, Bernard founded the monastery on 25 June 1115, naming it Claire Vallée, which evolved into Clairvaux. There Bernard would preach an immediate faith, in which the intercessor was the Virgin Mary." In the year 1128, Bernard attended the Council of Troyes, at which he traced the outlines of the Rule of the Knights Templar, which soon became the ideal of Christian nobility. On the death of Pope Honorius II on 13 February 1130, a schism broke out in the Church. King Louis VI of France convened a national council of the French bishops at Étampes in 1130, and Bernard was chosen to judge between the rivals for pope. After the council of Étampes, Bernard spoke with King Henry I of England, also known as Henry Beauclerc, about Henry I's reservations regarding Pope Innocent II. Henry I was sceptical because most of the bishops of England supported Antipope Anacletus II; Bernard persuaded him to support Innocent. Germany had decided to support Innocent through Norbert of Xanten, who was a friend of Bernard's. However, Innocent insisted on Bernard's company when he met with Lothair II, Holy Roman Emperor. —BOOKS— CONCERNING GRACE AND FREE WILL LIFE AND WORKS OF SAINT BERNARD LIFE OF SAINT MALACHY OF ARMAGH ON CONSIDERATION ON THE LOVE OF GOD SERMONS OF SAINT BERNARD ON ADVENT & CHRISTMAS: INCLUDING THE FAMOUS TREATISE ON THE INCARNATION CALLED "MISSUS EST" SERMONS ON THE CANTICLE OF CANTICLES SOME LETTERS OF SAINT BERNARD PUBLISHER: AETERNA PRESS

Download or read book Collected Works of Enoch the Prophet written by Zen Garcia and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2017-12-06 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With renewed interest in the character of Enoch the prophet, I decided to publish in 14 point font not just the R.H. Charles Oxford translation of the Book of Enoch and the Richard Laurence translation of the Book of the Secrets of Enoch, but compile with them such obscure sources as the recently 2005 discovery of the Greek Account of Enoch the Prophet, the Aramaic Dead Sea Scrolls fragments of 1 Enoch, Ogdias the Giant, the Manichean Book of the Giants, The Midrash of Semhazai and Aza, chapter 100 of the Kebra Nagast, the Armenian Vision Of Enoch The Just, the Hebrew Third Book Of Enoch, Coptic Apocryphon of Enoch, and Slavonic Two Tablets Of Enoch. Providing all of these sources together in one collection, can better assist those seeking to understand more completely Enoch, his life, and involvement with the Watchers and Giants. This collection better expounds upon the context of the few Enochian texts we still have of those left for us in greater capacity and clearer regard.
