Download or read book Enzyme Mechanism from Isotope Effects written by Paul F. Cook and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1991-09-20 with total page 656 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Isotope effects have become one of the most powerful tools available to the enzymologist for probing enzymic mechanisms. Enzyme Mechanism from Isotope Effects presents the basic theory underlying isotope effects, including the latest findings on proton tunneling and coupled atomic notions. Specific theoretical applications are emphasized in regard to the types of information that can be obtained using isotope effects. The book also examines recent theoretical treatments of the product dependence of deuterium isotope effects, multiple isotope effects and isotope effects on intermediate partitioning. Other topics include a complete discussion of methods for measuring isotope effects, including a detailed description of the use of the isotope ratio mass spectrometer to obtain isotope effects, and a review of the literature regarding mechanistic information obtained from isotope effects for individual classes of enzyme-catalyzed reactions. Enzyme Mechanism from Isotope Effects is an excellent reference source for investigators using isotope effects in their research. The book is also valuable for reference libraries and instructors teaching courses in enzyme mechanism.

This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 625 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The transItIOn-state theory has been, from the point of its inception, the most influential principle in the development of our knowledge of reaction mechanisms in solution. It is natural that as the field of biochemical dynamics has achieved new levels of refinement its students have increasingly adopted the concepts and methods of transition-state theory. Indeed, every dynamical problem of biochemistry finds its most elegant and economical statement in the terms of this theory. Enzyme catalytic power, for example, derives from the interaction of enzyme and substrate structures in the transition state, so that an understanding of this power must grow from a knowledge of these structures and interactions. Similarly, transition-state interactions, and the way in which they change as protein structure is altered, constitute the pivotal feature upon which molecular evolution must turn. The complete, coupled dynamical system of the organism, incorporating the transport of matter and energy as well as local chemical processes, will eventually have to yield to a description of its component transition-state structures and their energetic response characteristics, even if the form of the description goes beyond present-day transition-state theory. Finally, the importance of biochemical effectors in medicine and agriculture carries the subject into the world of practical affairs, in the use of transition-state information for the construction of ultra potent biological agents.

Download or read book Isotope Effects written by Max Wolfsberg and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-12-15 with total page 477 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the title suggests, Isotope Effects in the Chemical, Geological and Bio Sciences deals with differences in the properties of isotopically substituted molecules, such as differences in the chemical and physical properties of water and the heavy waters. Since the various fields in which isotope effects are applied do not only share fundamental principles but also experimental techniques, this book includes a discussion of experimental apparatus and experimental techniques. Isotope Effects in the Chemical, Geological and Bio Sciences is an educational monograph addressed to graduate students and others undertaking isotope effect research. The fundamental principles needed to understand isotope effects are presented in appropriate detail. While it is true that these principles are more familiar to students of physical chemistry and some background in physical chemistry is recommended, the text provides enough detail to make the book an asset to students in organic and biochemistry, and geochemistry.
Book Synopsis Stable Isotope Geochemistry by : John W. Valley
Download or read book Stable Isotope Geochemistry written by John W. Valley and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2018-12-17 with total page 676 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 43 of Reviews in Mineralogy and Geochemistry follows the 1986 Reviews in Mineralogy (Vol. 16) in approach but reflects significant changes in the field of Stable Isotope Geochemistry. In terms of new technology, new sub-disciplines, and numbers of researchers, the field has changed more in the past decade than in any other since that of its birth. Unlike the 1986 volume, which was restricted to high temperature fields, this book covers a wider range of disciplines. However, it would not be possible to fit a comprehensive review into a single volume. Our goal is to provide state-of-the-art reviews in chosen subjects that have emerged or advanced greatly since 1986. This volume was prepared for Short Course on Stable Isotope Geochemistry presented November 2-4, 2001 in conjunction with the annual meetings of the Geological Society of America in Boston, Massachusetts.
