Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Immediately after the Civil War, white women across the South organized to retrieve the remains of Confederate soldiers. In Virginia alone, these Ladies' Memorial Associations (LMAs) relocated and reinterred the remains of more than 72,000 soldiers. Challenging the notion that southern white women were peripheral to the Lost Cause movement until the 1890s, Caroline Janney restores these women as the earliest creators and purveyors of Confederate tradition. Long before national groups such as the Woman's Christian Temperance Union and the United Daughters of the Confederacy were established, Janney shows, local LMAs were earning sympathy for defeated Confederates. Her exploration introduces new ways in which gender played a vital role in shaping the politics, culture, and society of the late nineteenth-century South.

Download or read book The Ultimate Book of CBD Remedies written by Ryan Lewis and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2020-04-20 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hemp has a rich history throughout many cultures and regions as an effective, natural cure to a variety of ailments that affect mammals and, more specifically, human beings. Clinical research conducted with hemp cannabinoids officially began in the 1940s in the United States, when CBD was first isolated from the molecular structure, despite ongoing international research proving the efficacy well before that time. Scientists and doctors from around the globe are heavily invested in the study of cannabinoids like CBD and their interaction with the human endocannabinoid system. In The Ultimate Book of CBD Remedies, Ryan Lewis has interviewed highly regarded pioneers, developers, and doctors focused on the benefits of CBD and cannabinoids, as well as exploring ancient medicinal practices that reference hemp as a “cure-all”—all the while seeking to re-evaluate and re-define the application to modern disorders. Highlighted are personal experiences of these notables and an easy to understand collection of information showing how CBD works with many chronic conditions, without the risk of significant side effects. Alongside the expected research and analysis, Lewis supplies readers with a solid basis upon which to select the right delivery system for themselves and their families. Whether that be the combination of topicals and tinctures for neurological/chronic pain or an “as needed” softgel regimen to encourage the return to an optimum state of homeostasis, consumers will understand how CBD interacts with their bodies and why immediate and lasting relief is often found with virtually no side effects. The author, Ryan Lewis, is the founder and CEO of Global Cannabinoids, one of the largest wholesale CBD and hemp derived cannabinoid producers, manufacturers, and distributors in the world. Lewis built the very first company to distribute American grown hemp and CBD oil and has been a pioneer in building the global supply chain for hemp cannabinoids that are now found in thousands of CBD branded products worldwide. Whether looking to CBD for debilitating pain, seizures, anxiety, depression and stress, or cancer treatment, The Ultimate Book of CBD Remedies dives into the myriad of health complications we face today and how hemp CBD has improved the lives of men, women, and children across the globe, both by treating conditions once thought to be untreatable with modern medicine and by keeping them away from harmful and dangerous opioids. All profits from The Ultimate Book of CBD Remedies will be donated to Children's Cancer Research, via SavingSophie.org

Download or read book Becoming Confederates written by Gary W. Gallagher and published by University of Georgia Press. This book was released on 2013-05-01 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Becoming Confederates, Gary W. Gallagher explores loyalty in the era of the Civil War, focusing on Robert E. Lee, Stephen Dodson Ramseur, and Jubal A. Early--three prominent officers in the Army of Northern Virginia who became ardent Confederate nationalists. Loyalty was tested and proved in many ways leading up to and during the war. Looking at levels of allegiance to their native state, to the slaveholding South, to the United States, and to the Confederacy, Gallagher shows how these men represent responses to the mid-nineteenth-century crisis. Lee traditionally has been presented as a reluctant convert to the Confederacy whose most powerful identification was with his home state of Virginia--an interpretation at odds with his far more complex range of loyalties. Ramseur, the youngest of the three, eagerly embraced a Confederate identity, highlighting generational differences in the equation of loyalty. Early combined elements of Lee's and Ramseur's reactions--a Unionist who grudgingly accepted Virginia's departure from the United States but later came to personify defiant Confederate nationalism. The paths of these men toward Confederate loyalty help delineate important contours of American history. Gallagher shows that Americans juggled multiple, often conflicting, loyalties and that white southern identity was preoccupied with racial control transcending politics and class. Indeed, understanding these men's perspectives makes it difficult to argue that the Confederacy should not be deemed a nation. Perhaps most important, their experiences help us understand why Confederates waged a prodigiously bloody war and the manner in which they dealt with defeat.

Months later, a doctor and two nurses were arrested and accused of injecting some of those patients with life-ending drugs. Five Days at Memorial, the culmination of six years of reporting by Pulitzer Prize winner Sheri Fink, unspools the mystery, bringing us inside a hospital fighting for its life and into the most charged questions in health care: which patients should be prioritized, and can health care professionals ever be excused for hastening death?
