Its message to the Church is clear-get ready The Last Shofar is a unique practical guide to prepare for the end times. Chapter-based questions help the reader and small groups engage critical themes. "Most highly recommended Devoutly honoring Scripture as the Word of God, meticulously researched in an area that has received scant attention from Biblical scholars, this book has the potential to dramatically enlighten prophecies of the end times." Larry H. Ellis, D.Div., formerly The Chaplain, United States Marine Corps "A vital contribution-The Last Shofar brings to the church a new understanding of God's plan for ushering in the Millennial Kingdom. Believers will do well to study this groundbreaking exposition of scriptural truth for guidance and encouragement as we prepare to meet our Lord in the air and abide with Him forever." Donald B. Benson, Ph.D., M.S., M.Div., Director-The Kingdom Curriculum Project "A wake-up call" to every believer The Last Shofar sounds a clarion call to the church at large to prepare-to make ourselves ready for the challenging days preceding our Savior's return. Marilyn Lake Griffin, Director-Ministries of New Life Dr. Joseph Lenard and Donald Zoller have spent a lifetime studying, researching and teaching biblical themes that impact, encourage and build-up the body of Christ. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the roots of Christianity run deep into Hebrew soil, many Christians remain regrettably uninformed about the rich Jewish heritage of the church. Our Father Abraham delineates the vital link between Judaism and Christianity, exemplified by the common ancestry of the two faiths traceable back to Abraham. Marvin Wilson calls Christians to reexamine their Semitic heritage to regain a more authentically biblical understanding of what they believe and practice. Wilson, a trusted voice among both Jews and Christians, speaks to both past and present, first developing a historical perspective on the Jewish origins of the church and then discussing how the church can become more attuned to the Hebraic mindset of Scripture. Drawing from his own extensive experience, he also offers valuable practical guidance for salutary interaction between Christians and Jews. Discussion questions at the end of each chapter make this book especially suitable for use in groups—Christian, Jewish, or interfaith—as readers strive to make sense of their own faith in connection with the other. The second edition of Our Father Abraham features a new preface, an expanded bibliography of recent relevant works, and two new chapters: one that discusses Jewish-Christian relations after the Holocaust and another that reflects on Wilson’s own fifty-plus-year career as an evangelical Christian deeply committed to interfaith dialogue. As Christians and Jews feel a growing need for mutual support in an increasingly secular Western world, Wilson’s widely acclaimed book will offer encouragement and wise guidance toward this worthy end.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is unanimity among Johannine scholars that one distinctive characteristic of the Fourth Gospel is the fact that the evangelist presents Jesus as caught in long-drawn out juridical confrontations between himself and 'the Jews'. Martin Asiedu-Peprah examines the two Sabbath conflict narratives in the Fourth Gospel from a narrative-critical perspective and thus takes a fresh look at the Johannine juridical metaphor. In doing so, he attempts to pursue a three-fold objective. First, he determines the precise nature of the juridical metaphor used in the two narratives and on the strength of it, he undertakes a critical reading of the texts under study with the view to shedding new light on their meaning. Then he examines the role of this specific juridical metaphor in the two narratives. The question here is: for what purpose and how is this specific juridical metaphor used within the narrative framework of the two narratives? Finally, he explores the historical setting of the two narratives and infers from it the social function the juridical metaphor would have played within the Johannine Sitz im Leben. In the light of his results, Martin Asiedu-Peprah makes an attempt to examine very briefly the entire section of John 5:1-10:42 to see if the presence of the juridical controversy pattern in this section can throw light on one crucial issue in Johannine research, namely, the purpose of the Gospel in its present form.
