Book Synopsis God Can Not Be Trusted (and Five Other Lies of Satan) by : Tony Evans
Download or read book God Can Not Be Trusted (and Five Other Lies of Satan) written by Tony Evans and published by Multnomah. This book was released on 2010-04-14 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Does God Really Have Your Best Interest at Heart? Doubting His holiness? Thinking maybe you shouldn’t completely surrender to Him, that you’re better off in charge of your own life? Well, say hello to the father of these lies: Satan. He’s an old pro using the same brilliant, deceptive tactics to harm you every time—unless you dare call his bluff and refuse to ever be his victim again. In God Can Not Be Trusted (and Five Other Lies of Satan), you’ll discover how to recognize the devil’s six ancient tactics, and claim victory over each one. Your only hope is in the power of Jesus Christ. Because only Christ can conquer Satan. He already has. So flood your mind with truth, and begin to see the lies for what they are. You’ll never be duped by them again, free to live abundantly in light of God’s truth! Have You Been Fooled? God must be out to get me. I’m better off doing my own thing. Sure it’s a sin, but I can get away with it! Do you recognize these thoughts? Then you have been fooled. And Satan is laughing. Because if he can deceive you, he will destroy your state of mind, ruin your relationships, and steal your joy. Do not let him. Dr. Tony Evans equips you to recognize Satan’s conniving tactics and boldly declare his lies for what they are. Winning this game is easier than you may think. And victorious living in light of God’s truth is your daily reward! Story Behind the Book A common theme emerged as Tony Evans held counseling sessions with countless individuals. People seemed completely unaware of how the spiritual realm was at work in their lives. “They saw clearly with their physical eyes,” he says, “but remained unaware of the evil, unseen spiritual activity that either caused or aggravated their physical world. Even in my own life, when I faced challenges or struggles, I would often reference the physical system without first looking at the spiritual cause,” says Tony. “Thus this book’s message was born to more effectively help people understand and address their struggles from a spiritual point of view.”

Book Synopsis A Philosophy of Lying by : Lars Svendsen
Download or read book A Philosophy of Lying written by Lars Svendsen and published by Reaktion Books. This book was released on 2022-05-23 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From lying to friends to lies in politics, a wide-ranging examination of the forms and ethics of falsehood. From popular philosopher Lars Svendsen, this book is a comprehensive investigation of lying in everyday life. What exactly is a lie, Svendsen asks, and how does lying differ from related phenomena, such as “bullshit” or being truthful? Svendsen also investigates the ethics of lying—why is lying almost always morally wrong, and why is lying to one’s friends especially bad? The book concludes by looking at lying in politics, from Plato’s theory of the “noble lie” to the Big Lie of Donald Trump. As phrases like “fake news” and “alternative facts” permeate our feeds, Svendsen’s conclusion is perhaps a surprising one: that, even though we all occasionally lie, we are for the most part trustworthy. Trusting others makes one vulnerable, and we will all be duped from time to time. But all things considered, Svendsen contends, truthfulness and vulnerability are preferable to living in a constant state of distrust.

Book Synopsis Explaining Unhappiness by : Peter Spinogatti
Download or read book Explaining Unhappiness written by Peter Spinogatti and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2010-10-07 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Serious books inevitably start with an instigating question, and the question that Explaining Unhappiness answers is this: What are you afraid would happen if you weren’t unhappy? Why? Because this is the question that everybody asks all their lives, without ever fully realizing it. We are deeply engaged in the assumptions contained within it. What are we assuming when we ask that question? First, we’re suggesting that it is possible to be happy regardless of the present circumstances in which we find ourselves—that unhappiness doesn’t just happen, but that it may be self-imposed. Further, this chosen state may have less to do with what is happening in the present and more to do with warding off a fearfully anticipated future. Finally, we must also believe that, somehow, unhappiness pays off. We are forced to conclude, then, that we value unhappiness. Explaining Unhappiness was written for anyone who has come to realize that “realizing your potential” and “increasing your coping skills” have become old chestnuts that never really gave you what you really wanted—namely, a definitive answer as to why you need to believe that something is wrong with you.
Book Synopsis Lying and Christian Ethics by : Christopher O. Tollefsen
Download or read book Lying and Christian Ethics written by Christopher O. Tollefsen and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2014-04-28 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book defends the controversial 'absolute view' of lying, which maintains that an assertion contrary to the speaker's mind is always wrong, regardless of the speaker's intentions. Whereas most people believe that a lie told for a good cause, such as protecting Jews from discovery by Nazis, is morally acceptable, Christopher Tollefsen argues that Christians should support the absolute view. He looks back to the writings of Augustine and Aquinas to illustrate that lying violates the basic human goods of integrity and sociality and severely compromises the values of religion and truth. He critiques the comparatively permissive views espoused by Cassian, Bonhoeffer, and Niebuhr and argues that lies often jeopardize the good causes for which they are told. Beyond framing a moral absolute against lying, this book explores the questions of to whom we owe the truth and when, and what steps we may take when we should not give it.

You'll learn the ins and outs of startup execution, management, legal issues, and practical processes throughout the launch and growth phases, and how to avoid the critical missteps that threaten the foundation of your business. Instead of simply referring you to experts, this discussion shows you exactly which experts you need, what exactly you need them to do, and which tools you will use to support them—and you'll gain enough insight to ask smart questions that help you get your money's worth. If you're ready to do big things, this book has you covered from the first business card to the eventual exit. Over two thirds of startups are built on creaky foundations, and over two thirds of startup costs go directly toward cleaning up legal and practical problems caused by an incomplete or improper start. This book helps you sidestep the messy and expensive clean up process by giving you the specific actions you need to take right from the very beginning. Understand the critical intricacies of legally incorporating and running a startup Learn which experts you need, and what exactly you need from them Make more intelligent decisions independent of your advisors Avoid the challenges that threaten to derail great young companies The typical American startup costs over $30,000 and requires working with over two dozen professionals and service providers before it even opens for business—and the process is so complex that few founders do it correctly. Their startups errors often go unnoticed until the founder tries to seek outside capital, at which point they can cost thousands of dollars to fix. . . or even completely derail an investment. The Startup Checklist helps you avoid these problems and lay a strong foundation, so you can focus on building your business.
Download or read book Liars written by Cass R. Sunstein and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2021-02-04 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A powerful analysis of why lies and falsehoods spread so rapidly now, and how we can reform our laws and policies regarding speech to alleviate the problem. Lying has been with us from time immemorial. Yet today is different-and in many respects worse. All over the world, people are circulating damaging lies, and these falsehoods are amplified as never before through powerful social media platforms that reach billions. Liars are saying that COVID-19 is a hoax. They are claiming that vaccines cause autism. They are lying about public officials and about people who aspire to high office. They are lying about their friends and neighbors. They are trying to sell products on the basis of untruths. Unfriendly governments, including Russia, are circulating lies in order to destabilize other nations, including the United Kingdom and the United States. In the face of those problems, the renowned legal scholar Cass Sunstein probes the fundamental question of how we can deter lies while also protecting freedom of speech. To be sure, we cannot eliminate lying, nor should we try to do so. Sunstein shows why free societies must generally allow falsehoods and lies, which cannot and should not be excised from democratic debate. A main reason is that we cannot trust governments to make unbiased judgments about what counts as "fake news." However, governments should have the power to regulate specific kinds of falsehoods: those that genuinely endanger health, safety, and the capacity of the public to govern itself. Sunstein also suggests that private institutions, such as Facebook and Twitter, have a great deal of room to stop the spread of falsehoods, and they should be exercising their authority far more than they are now doing. As Sunstein contends, we are allowing far too many lies, including those that both threaten public health and undermine the foundations of democracy itself.

Book excerpt: Stanley Marshal is retiring from his position as a history professor at the University of Washington. The highlight of his retirement is a field expedition to Saqqara, Egypt, where he will manage the excavation of a mastaba, a burial mound that was recently discovered. The trip is planned for September-but, two weeks before Stanley and his assistant, Carlson Kramer, are scheduled to leave for Egypt, the professor receives an early morning call from a representative of the American Research Center in Egypt... ...an organization that has supported Stanley's work over the years. The ARCE representative informs Stanley that he must leave for Egypt immediately and travel to Giza because of an event that has taken place there in the last few days. Although Stanley protests the abrupt change in his plans, he agrees to make the flight the organization has booked for him and his assistant with the condition that travel arrangements are also made for a former student, Janice Totten... ...to whom the professor has become very close. The trip to Giza turns out to be a gathering of the world's best scientists and historians. Under the leadership of Alam Al-Moshara, an important ARCE representative, the scholars are confined to a local hotel for the purpose of working together to uncover the cause of several electromagnetic disturbances that have occurred just days before the group's arrival. Professor Stanley's knowledge of Egyptian history and the pyramids becomes significant to the Egyptian government and the global community as they discover the source of the devastating disturbance that makes itself visible over the great pyramids, and then expands across the earth. ...What they find may be the end, or is it a Timeless Awakening? Timeless Awakening takes us on an imaginary, technological journey to look at a civilization that has survived for over a million years, and has developed the means to control and manipulate the most fundamental physical laws of our universe, space, time, and gravity.
