Book Synopsis Take the Big Picture by : James Reaney
Download or read book Take the Big Picture written by James Reaney and published by The Porcupine's Quill. This book was released on 1986 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Was there ever such a family? Fired from his job at the University for letting all the mice free from their cages in the biology labs, Mr Delahay went home to find that his house was falling into the river. Moving into his mother's large, old house proved no solution. His equally large family -- two girls and four boys, three of them triplets -- were too mischievous and troublesome for his mother to stand. So she banished most of them to British Columbia where they had adventures with Sasquatches and a carwash owner named Buck whose life's dream it was to capture one of these Wild Men of the Woods. Returning to their home town in Ontario, the Delahays find that their having a home again depends on the oldest boy's skill at telling a story that will keep an eccentric old lady so interested she will let them stay with her yet one more night until she finds out how the story ends. Well, eventually, the story does have to end, but not before a great deal of hilarity and a great deal of wild adventures involving a motorbiker, a confidence woman masquerading as a baby sitter, and a leap through a Suicide Door. This is a different kind of story, filled with unexpected turns that even include a story within the story that you can try finishing yourself!

Download or read book Time for School! (A Tinyville Town Book) written by Brian Biggs and published by Abrams. This book was released on 2017-07-11 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From New York Times–bestselling author and illustrator Brian Biggs comes the second picture book in the collectible Tinyville Town series. In this next book in the preschool series, Time for School! shows how the whole community comes together for the first day of class. Mr. Meyer picks out his nicest sweater, Dylan ties his favorite shoes—and Mrs. Martinez, the crossing guard, has been waiting for this day all summer long. She joins the bus driver, the school principal, the lunchroom and playground staff, and, of course, all of the teachers, as they welcome the children of Tinyville Town Elementary back to school. And when a new girl shows up, everyone knows just what to do to make her feel right at home. Brian Biggs’ read-aloud Tinyville Town series launched in 2016 with three books: the world-establishing picture book Gets to Work! and two board books, I’m a Veterinarian and I’m a Firefighter. In addition to Time for School!, the series has grown to include two additional board books, I’m a Librarian and I’m a Police Officer. With a nod to the busy world of Richard Scarry and the neighborhood feel of Sesame Street, the Tinyville Town series has become a favorite read for preschoolers. Using bold, comic-influenced art to illustrate a growing, thriving, diverse city full of interesting people, these books are ideal for story time and class discussions about occupations and community helpers.

Book Synopsis Mi Mochito Sephardim from Northern New Mexico by : Jo Roybal Izay
Download or read book Mi Mochito Sephardim from Northern New Mexico written by Jo Roybal Izay and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2012 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What a delightful book! Jo Izay is an able story teller, which is quite an art. The book had me in stitches with mi Mochito's recitation of "history." The character mi Mochito is unique and shares an incredibly hilarious view of historic events. The book takes place in the northeast mountains of New Mexico where a few hundred years ago Sephardic Jews went to escape the inquisition. Although the book is ostensibly fiction, it does give much very interesting accurate historical information about what happened to these people and how they intermarried with, e.g., Indians, other Jews, etc, yet kept the rudiments of their religious practices to this very day. There is so much to be learned about, e.g., the penitentes, Indians "Los Mormones", language (Spanish, Ladino, English, Latin, Hebrew, etc), that anyone interested in cultures will find the book fascinating. The relationship between the Catholic priest and the Rabbi is fascinating and humorous. In my opinion, the book should be in the library of every synagogue and every student of cultures. And, it's funny! Bert Robinson Baton Rouge, LA
